I made this trip around the world quilt top but it did not turn out as the great quilt top it should have. I made a second one thinking that by seperating the florals thinking that would fix it. But they did not turn out with a wow factor as this fabric should have been. Any info on working with florals would be greatful.

Halo 10-18-2010 08:11 PM

WOW! I love them. Both look just great to me. Job well done IMO.

pennyj123 10-18-2010 08:14 PM

It looks to me there is a WOW factor, you are to hard on yourself, they are both beautiful quilts. Love the colours. Well done :)

Leota 10-18-2010 08:15 PM

They look good to me
I like blue and I love blue roses

Sometimes what we visualize in our heads doesn't look as awesome in real life.
Both quilts are really pretty.

Dollysquiltingmom 10-18-2010 08:17 PM

Thank you. I guess they just look to busy to me. I had better get use to it. Have a lot of floral fabric. LOL

np3 10-18-2010 08:18 PM

These are great.

DebraK 10-18-2010 08:20 PM

sorry. not seeing the problem. can you isolate what you don't like about it?

gramqlts 10-18-2010 08:23 PM

OMG - I can see your delima.....no other choice but to get rid of them. I'll do you a favor and take them off your hands so just box them up and pm me and I will send you my address. lol

No, I think they are both gorgeous quilts and would be proud to have either one. Great job!

SueKitten1 10-18-2010 08:44 PM

They are both beautifully done!

Quiltforme 10-18-2010 09:04 PM

It caught my eye WOW factor check! Love the colors very cool!

Gramyx7 10-18-2010 09:06 PM

They both look great to me... I think you did a wonderful job on both of them.. :)

Prism99 10-18-2010 09:15 PM

These are beautiful quilts!

In terms of a wow factor, think about using additional colors. Blue is calming in practically all of its incarnations, and especially in florals, so using all blues and whites pretty much guarantees a calm quilt. I always offset blue fabrics with pink fabrics to add a little dynamic "tension". You might look to add pink florals to your stash, and also fabrics that have both pink and blue flowers (so you have some transition fabrics to work with).

It seems to me that many of your florals are of large flowers in one color. Try adding in some smaller sized florals, and also some non-floral fabrics for variations in texture. For example, even if you wanted to stick with all blues, some ocean blues and sky blues would add a lot of textural variation.

Or, consult with my sister. She consistently comes up with Wow! quilts using fabrics I would never have considered purchasing, much less combining into a quilt. I still haven't figured out how she does it.......

Iluv2quilt 10-18-2010 09:17 PM

I think your quilt is beautiful!! Nice work!

Scissor Queen 10-18-2010 09:20 PM

Since you asked, I think the styles of the fabrics are too close to each other. A stripe, plaid or some other geometric would have done a lot for either quilt. If you can afford to have them longarm quilted, a lot of feathering would do wonders for them.

I forgot to add, you did a really nice job on them!

Sadiemae 10-18-2010 09:24 PM

You did a beautiful job.

Prism99 has the same ideas that I would give also. I usually use 8 or 9 fabrics, but we all have our own preferences which is great!

Keep up the good work!

Jim's Gem 10-18-2010 09:28 PM

They are quite pretty!

SharonD 10-18-2010 10:39 PM

You did well with both quilt tops. I think on your first one, the colours didn't stand out, but by putting the white around the trips has separated the colours, and it looks great. Well done.

Lynnie25 10-18-2010 10:50 PM

WOW ! WOW! They are both beautiful. My WOW factor must definitely differ from yours :) LOL gramqlts, guess it was worth a try huh !

Annaquilts 10-18-2010 10:52 PM

Love them both and wow wow for the both of them. I think soemtimes when you work on a quilt you get saturated with the fabric. Maybe if you lay it aside and you look at it again you can see what we see.

pojo 10-18-2010 11:00 PM

I'm lost I don't see anything wrong with either one of them.

The are both beautiful. You did a nice job on both of them.

If you want to send them to me and I'll take care of them for you.

Blue is my favorite color.

Borntohandquilt 10-18-2010 11:06 PM

They are both beautiful and you did a wonderful job!

purplefiend 10-18-2010 11:15 PM

I think both tops are beautiful.
I agree with what ScissorQueen said about maybe using different print sizes and a geometric or a stripe would add more interest.
I would've done mine in purples and greens, just my preference. :-D
In the picture of this quilt top, you can see that I used different sizes of prints + a tone on tone stripe.

I think you did a fabulous job, both quilts are beautiful. However, if I had to actually pick one, the first one is my favorite...the WOW factor just jumped out at me!

Queen 10-19-2010 01:33 AM

You did a wonderful job. It looks so peaceful and will look great on any bed.

mcdaniel023 10-19-2010 02:06 AM

The say don't say wow to me. They say - very beautiful, peaceful and cozy. Just what a bed quilt should say. I love them!!!!

SueDor 10-19-2010 02:19 AM

Looks good to me!

sewTinker 10-19-2010 02:25 AM

I think that sometimes quilting is like cooking. By the time we're done with our big beautiful dinner, we can't really Taste it. The next day we're surprised at how really yummy the leftovers are. Maybe if you put the quilts away for a while, you will appreciate their beauty when you take them out again. i.e., these are really pretty.

SuziC 10-19-2010 02:38 AM

They are gorgeous quilts and do have that WOW factor :!:

Jingle 10-19-2010 03:06 AM

I just see beautiful, both look great to me.

TeresaT 10-19-2010 03:11 AM

I love them both. They are pretty and cozy. My quilts never turn out like I picture them before I start them.

rootyr 10-19-2010 03:16 AM

Looks great to me!

pjustice63 10-19-2010 03:33 AM

You didn't do anything wrong. I have made two of the TAW quilts and the only thing I see that would have made a difference would be to make a smaller square when you started. I , too, made a blue one and wasn't as happy as when I made one with bright colors. Blue is tranquil. Still beautiful.

Patched 10-19-2010 03:39 AM

Both look great to me. I don't know what you were expecting, but I think they are both excellent.

pocoellie 10-19-2010 03:44 AM

I think they're beautiful!! Great job!!

cjomomma 10-19-2010 04:02 AM

I love the quilt. I would say the WOW factor is there for me!! You did a wonderful job!!

cherrio 10-19-2010 04:06 AM

awe, you did a great job. maybe vary the size of the flowers. I would not hang my head about those quilts. Beautiful!!

MamaBear61 10-19-2010 04:30 AM

They are both lovely.

Kitsapquilter 10-19-2010 04:43 AM

Both look good to me! Though I lean toward the first one more! That is just me...I don't care for a lot of white in my quilts but usually like when someone else uses it in their quilt! Be easy on yourself. They are both great!

Donna P 10-19-2010 05:09 AM

Well I can see what you saying.....I certainly wouldn't put that on your bed at all....I would start all over with another fabric choice...and better yet send that blue flowered mess to me I'm sure I can find someplace to store it...my goodness.
All joking aside it's beautiful...I just love how it turned out. I love all the flowers and how you have rowed them is gorgeous......Great job!!!!!

sewnsewer2 10-19-2010 05:46 AM

I like it!
