Love the first border check and the blocks, they are precious. I'd the lighter material and then the green and bind it in the green too. It's so cute what ever you decide will be great.

You are wanting to add 40" more border? 20" to each side?
I have to go along with the idea of more log cabin clocks.
You'd have to do the math to see what size block to make but I'm thinking 12" blocks with the final border 8" of the green fabric. It would kind of depend on what size the log cabin blocks are now but I'm guessing they are 12 inch blocks. You may have to use a strip of something (maybe that red) between the blocks to make the size match what you have but that would look nice.
It's going to be lovely when you are done. Don't feel obligated to give it back! I'm sure she gave you the panel without any expectations of getting it back.

Beautiful! I like (from top to bottom) # 2 and # 3! Please post what you decide, and show us when on.

I think you are wanting the quilt to be so much larger than it is now that you need to do the LC blocks..otherwise your borders would be huge! Its very pretty and I can't wait to see how you finish it up!

The first thing I thought of was more log cabin blocks. I like either the 1st or 3rd fabric for an inner border and the dark green for the outer border. Can't wait to see what you decide!

I would do an inner border of the gold, and then surround with the log cabin blocks.......and if size could hold it, another gold narrow border, another round of the log cabin blocks, and finally the dark green as an outer border......would make if very interesting and not detract from the panel.

Looks great! I think any of your fabric choices would be good.

Put a small border in yellow to pick up the same cors in the blocks, then go for you darker fabric in a lager strip to complete it.
