I'm voting no rock, the different shades in the background fabric give the illusion of the tiger climbing a rocky surface by itself. Both are wonderful though, but i definitely like the no rock better.

I vote no rock. The tiger is so cool that it's less distracting without the rock. The rock is what I focused on first when I saw it. I would want everyone's concentration focused on the awesome tiger that you did. This quilt that you're doing is looking wonderful no matter which way you choose.

what about making the rock from the black, with the gray as background? the tiger doesn't pop on the gray, but reversing the rock and "whatever" keeps him a-poppin' while adding interest and dimension to the background.
