And I thought I was the only one! I made a beautiful Mystery Quilt a few years ago and my sister fell in love with it and begged me for it. I happily gave it to her. Last fall she called to let me know her dog had chewed a couple of holes in it. We only live a few blocks away from each other, so one day when I was over I snuck a peak. I was devastated. I am in the process of fixing it now. This quilt, the holes went all the way through but also was lucky that it was only in the outside border with just a touch on the inside border. I did indeed have all the fabric I needed to fix it. I cut around it, pieced the top and managed to sew that in pretty well. The back I did just like you did and "patched" it along with a layer of batting. I just have to quilt it now and reattach the binding. I'm not a dog person anyways so you can imagine how I feel about them now, LOL. Thanks for listening!

Great repair job.
I would have considered taking a picture of the damaged area and a picture of the dog, combining the pictures and printing it on some fabric sheets and patching the hole with it.
Would be a great reminder of times past, and a conversation piece.
