Wish I liked this more

I think it is a perfect masculine quilt. How creative to use his picture too, great idea. A black border would be just the right touch. I think I would make sure there are no black blocks touching the border. I just prefer that look. Then how about a scrappy binding with the fabrics from the blocks.

I agree with others - a stunning quilt! I vote for the black and maybe gold border to help "frame" the lovely patchwork. Many you could FMQ it with musical notes and other symbols.
Remember that music is the coordination of many different sounds.....your quilt does the same thing....coordination of many different pieces!

It's fantastic!
I love scrappy looks, but when I do them myself, I always second-guess. I recently started a scrappy star quilt for DD with fabrics that were originally for a different pattern. I just wasn't sure I liked it at all. When I showed her what I had started, she just loved it. That made me start liking it more and more. Now I'm not sure I'm going to want to give it away LOL. Your son's going to treasure it!
