Siodach I love both of your layouts. If your intent is to have the daggers "pop" your right they do not w/ your current center color placement.

Siodach, the block works beautifully in monochrome! I've been working with those clue #7 QSTs also, trying to come up with something I prefer. I saw the 4-patch as an attempt to connect the blocks, so I've been thinking in terms of making a smoother connection, but maybe I should be trying to separate them.

I concluded that the 3-D dagger effect relies on an indistinct block center. When a darker color surrounds the inner square, it defines the center and becomes the focus. A blended effect there helps pop the daggers. I wonder how it would look if your QST colors were reversed, with the star points being in your 'lavender' solid and the lighter color surrounding the center.

Of course you can It's Bonnie's design really; I just replaced the clue 7 for some tri-rec triangles.

If I hadn't already gotten the yellow QSTs done, I'd probably follow your example also. But I hate to waste 40 blocks that I have no other use for.

I didn't even think about it, but I am doing it for the 365 quilt, same big Iris vase. I'll do a weekly image on that tread.

These are the best options I've been able to come up with for the QST unit in clue #7, which I wasn't loving. The first (left) keeps the purple 4-patch and changes the QST colors to purple/lavender, for a joining of the blocks. The second uses the constant and yellow in the QST, along with a yellow square to separate the blocks. I'm leaning toward the first option, as I think the yellow separation might detract from the blocks themselves and interrupt the flow of the quilt.

Lisa, I agree I like the purple that joins the blocks better.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work, because the blocks look too hulking when they are done in a row like that. So once again, after spending a day experimenting, I end up back where I started. I could have been done with clues 6 and 7 by now, LOL.
