I'm in, I have two twin quilts to finish also some small projects that need to be completed. I am sure I can manage one a month especially if I keep checking in to see all your completed projects.
Beautiful asimplelife. I love scrappy.
Now that's sure is purdy, asimplelife. I love patriotic. :)
It's the 5th and you all are finishing stuff by the bucket loads! Right on! Nicely done asimplelife. :)
I love seeing what you all have finished. I'm in, too.

This is the group I NEED. I have lotsa UFO's and did decide that I would finish "some" of them this year. Won't put a number on how many I will get done as their is a lot of new fabric and great patterns out there....
Asimplelife.....love your quilt and your sign post. Thank you for sharing. I got a good laugh too and will be passing this along.
Ok I'll try 1 a month. I am certain I have enough to last the year!
Received your message. OK, I have several UFO's soooooooo, I am going to put them in a pile and close my eyes and pick one and then will keep all posted. I am excited. Thanks for answering so quickly.

Hmm - I think this is the place for me! I've gone from goody two-shoes last year by never starting a new project until I've finished the last one, to accumulating several UFOs.
Look closely at my avatar :o - since this was taken I've added a pink inner border and cut the strips for the outer border. Before I finish this however, I'm going to finish the snowman wall hanging and quilt the baby quilt that should have been a Christmas present................. oops. |
I'm in again. Didn't do so well last year, but the UFO's are still there, so we'll try again this year! I know this board will keep me motivated. Thank you!!

I am digging up swap blocks and sewing them together. Boy do I feel good!

Wow, miss a couple days checking in and y'all have taken off like fireworks!!! How awesome this group already is!!!!
Such wonderful finishes and it's only the 6th. My ears are ringing still from the echo of that bell and the whistle of the train as so many of you have climbed aboard!!! Indeed, it is the nature of those UFO's to hide in dark corners and multiply in spite of our best intentions!! If you have one that you just can't face, remember that trading it off or giving it away also counts as a finish as it gets it out of your space. That project that now makes you cringe may be the very one that will delight another quilter. You can post it on the For Sale or Trade page or offer it up here. We want this to be fun, fun, fun..... there are more ways to finish a project than one! |
That is one beautiful quilt.
Count me in too, but not seriously until February. I have about 8 projects outstanding, and really need to crack on and finish them. 2 projects are Christmassy ones, and it would be really lovely to finish them by next Christmas!
This month is a bit busy, so I am setting myself February as my start date - that way I won't get too discouraged before I even start! |
An excellent point bigbrownowl!!! We know ourselves and it's important not to set our goals as to be self-defeating or discouraging.
Another example in myself: I don't set any deadlines at all, as being handicapped, I have to listen to the demands of my body and would find a deadline stressful. I apply that to all my quilting, not just UFOs. I will happily make a quilt for someone's birthday, as long as they understand there is no gurantee WHICH birthday they might get it. LOL. Or which month it might arrive all finished. If I promised something by a certain date, I know I would do all I could to meet that goal and hurt myself in the doing. So make your goals gentle on yourself!!! Be kind, and allow lots of room for new beginnings and fun projects also. |
Oh yay encouragement. I only have one UFO (I am pretty good about finsihing my stuff) but this one has been languishing for 15 years nd I need to get it DONE. I HATE it! Its a pretty pattern (Winding Ways) buts in shades of purple and I was insane enough to want to hand quilt it and not only hand quilt, but echo quilt it AND its high loft batting!!! - I HATE hand quilting and it literally takes 1,5 hours to hand quilt ONE block - and there are 64 blocks!!! So I finally gave up and said i will machine quilt it even if the machine and hand quilting don't match - and then it can go downstairs for the kids to cuddle under. They won't care fortunately. I promised myself that I can't start on anything else until this one is done and GONE.......

Right on JNCT14!
What to you all think about a separate thread to post pics of UFOs in progress? I would love to see what you all are working on and share what I have lined up too...but don't wish to bog down this celebratory thread. All in favor? I mean really...I have a hexagon project that I work on all the time, but can't live long enough to post it here. :) |
Love all the encouragement here! I worked on my seashell placemats today. The quilting is done (crosshatch) now -yay. Now to finish them up. I've got a very busy week after today so it may not be until Sat. That I can work on them again but still it's a start. Maybe I can hope to get two done!

I love the idea of seeing what folks are working on. I can never see too many quilts. LOL I just don't know how to connect a UFOs in progress link to this thread. Anyone know how to do that?
Or would it just be a seperate thread of it's very own? I certainly have no objections and can't imagine that anyone would. But please, let's hear more opinions on this from other members. I am not the boss, I am just the first one who got around to starting the thread for this year. LOL |
Ok that is it tomorrow I am going to put one of my ufo in the quilt frames. hmm if I remember where it is and where I put the Q snap frames:o If I am remembering right it has about 1/3 already quilted. I could use it on my bed right now this winter nights are cold. In my next life I am going to live in a new houses with great heating not wood for the only heat source. I would love to wake up warm in the mornings.

I'm in. I'm putting binding on one now. It's not really a UFO since I set it aside to finish Christmas projects. Next project is a lap quilt that is together, needs quilting and binding. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift. Then I'm going to finish sewing, quilting and binding 2 small quilts I started in classes at Sewing/Quilting expo in Tinley Park last Nov. Those will be donated to Project Linus. Then I get to start a new quilt for me. It has vintage images of Yosemite, a momento from my trip to CA and Yosemite last fall. I really want to make that and will use it as a reward for finishing the other 4. There are other UFOs in my sewing room, but I will be so happy to have these finished.
I like the other idea o' another thread for the UFO's & post the finished ones here. I'd think that all ya would have ta do is make another thread & put the link here.
WTG Pink Lady, You'll have a new warm quilt over you in no time at all!
I am in for another thread..just post it here so I can be sure to add it to my "subscriptions". :)
So glad to know there is a support group for UFO's. I have dozens, everything from costumes to quilts to cross-stitch and crochet. Oh dear do I even need more free time.
Love the idea of a thread devoted to UFOs. Maybe talk to Patrice about it - she might be able to tell you where to park it. Along with my picture I am going to post a 'lessons learned' from the project - which may be funny (did I tell you guys I HATE this quilt?????) :)
I'd rather see new comments and finished UFOs stay in this one thread. Then I can go back through the posts to check up on you all to see how you've been doing.:D
Sounds like a new thread for the UFOs in progress is the order of the day. Who is going to start this thread for us? I'm looking forward to it.
What a good influence you've been already! Since reading this thread I've bought calico for my snowmen wall hanging (I think I'd been dithering for ages about what to back it with - using 'good' fabric that wouldn't be seen and is soooo expensive here etc. etc.) and this afternoon I FMQ'd it. Tomorrow I hope to get the binding on and give machine-binding a go.
Hooray for Knitette!!! Way ta go. Lookin forward ta seein' it.

If we find that it doesn't meet our needs, no harm no foul...just looking to help each other reach this challenge goal of completing 1 UFO per month! :) |
I have plenty if UFO's and my big goal for 2013 is to make quilts from my MIL's stash for each of her grandchildren. No new swaps until I do this!!
Thought is if that does not fit the need, would be good to start a group for us to post photos of progress on and chat as well. I find those helpful with the doll quilt swap and monthly swap. Also we did it for the quilts for quilters swap last year.
QuilterMomma, i thought all your UFOs were F'd?
LOL, uh there are about 30 left to do. But, from what I have read now, that the ones that are just in their little kits are not UFOs so that leaves me about 20 or so to do. Honestly not much. I have them gathered nice and neatly in a storage tub under my sewing table so I can look at them and the few that are in the garage will be in the house in the tub shortly so they are all together.

I'm excited to see the other thread and will start posting pics of UFOs as I pick them up to work on there. I do have a finish to post here today though! My Minnesota Ladyslipper Wall Quilt was started in 2002 and (embarassingly) all I had to do was the binding last weekend. I will never EVER let a quilt wait 10+ years for binding!
The pattern is Road to Ireland from the book "Fat Quarter Quilts" by M'Liss Rae Hawley. It's about 35" by 47" and I'll hang it in my entryway in the spring. This is UFO Finish #2 for 2013. |
Love it asimplelife!
I am so glad to hear that you'll never let another quilt wait for binding. Where should I send the 4 that I have ready to go? That would certainly get me caught up and back to piecing. ;) |
