Yes it was high thread count so the needling was really tough, the batting bearded all over the place and when i gave up on hand quilting the durned thing and went to machine it, the top thread kept shredding - yu could actually hear it pop as the needle went into the fabric. I probably should have washed the sheeting to get the sizing out of it - that may have helped as well. UGH

Wendy, I think that is a very good idea.... think I will try doing that also...
|
At least you finished it and it is lovely. I agree about leaving it in the car. For sure, leave in trunk when not in use. It is beautiful and you learned a lot. We all admire you. Hurray for one more UFO off your list.

so many ufos finished already. I have just made the mystery train ride top which needs to be sandwiched and quilted and I intend to finish fmqing my Christmas Wall hanging which has been "on the go" for 3 years so that is my aim for this month's ufo

Yayyyyy, I'm getting to post my second finish for this month!!! A real rarity for me. This was already a flimsy so all I had to do was the backing, layering, quilting and binding. I'm thrilled to post a finished quilt: Seasonal Greens made for my DGS. The pattern is Scattered D9P, I started it early in Dec. 2011. Put it aside, worked on it again off and on thru 2012, put it aside, and now it is finished!!! Woohooooo!!

Finished! Finished! Finished! :)

This is great for very scrappy, which mine pretty much is. The only thing I kept consistent is that I used the same fabric for the center square in all the 9P. That is the pale gray that you see throughout the quilt. Smiles and hugggggggggggs, |
I am working on a large quilt I started last year. It is paper pieced and is quite fun to do. I am not finished with it yet but if I post about it maybe it will inspire me to go ahead and finish it.

DING DING!!! Ring that bell Wildyard!!! Another UFO down!!!!
|
I love your color choices for your scattered DP9. It looks great. Thanks for explaining what you meant by "scattered". I definitely have to try this one. Great finish. Woot Woot!!!
|
Thanks for the explanation, Wildyard. Your quilt is really nice. So nice to call it "finished." Ring that bell.

I did cheat a little and after I drew them all out and put them on the design wall. Then I took a photo and moved a few around to avoid too many duplcates being togeter and to make sure it looked balanced to me. I did that before I sewed the quarters together and again before sewing the larger squares together.

A little tinkle for me please. It may not sound like much, but for me - who has no dressmaking skills whatsoever - it's an accomplishment, albeit not quilt-related.
This morning I cut the feet off one of DGS fleecy sleep suits my daughter gave me before Christmas and hemmed them with an over edge foot (who's been reading the manual then?) |
Oh no Knitette, you get a giant clanging bell for reading the manual and trying something new!!!!!!!!!!! CLANG, CLANG, CLANG!!!! WTG girl!!

This is my 2nd almost completed UFO of the year. It is the result of a class taken last fall with Debby Kratovil. Top is completed; DD will quilt it on her recently acquired midarm. It will be a practice quilt for her. I don't FMQ and don't want to spend too much time thinking about how to quilt and/or having to mark it. I just want this finished. I have too many UFOs to spend much time on this one. It will be donated to Project Linus. Love the colors.

Ok, this sounds like thread I need to be on! I have... Oh... at least 13 different UFOs that are in various stages of progress. Some are cut, but no sewing done, some have some sewing done, others are flimsies that need borders &/or quilted... All of these are a minimum of 6 months old, some are 10 years! Considering I've (only) been quilting for 11 years, that's saying something.
That doesn't even count the ones that I've purchased fabric for, but haven't gone further than that! Or the UFO that my grandmother passed on to me 12 years ago, that she hadn't touched since before I was born! EEP! |
Oh wow, I go outta town & when I git back I see several UFO's made into FO's! Way ta go ya'll. I did do 1 block & got the HST's done for 2 other blocks for my Quilt Story, BOM, while in Brady.

In fact, I'm beginning to scare myself.......... This morning I repaired a bag strap for my DD's friend using the instructions "Sewing from the edge of thick fabric" and "locking the foot in horizontal position to avoid slipping". It worked! (I have made her promise to never, ever, ever volunteer me again as a 'Thank you'. I might be quilter one day, ain't ever gonna be that dressmaker, lol.)) |

Grammajo, are you sure you never worked in Montana at St V's hospital in Billings. I knew a grandma jo there and she was so awesome and special, just like you.

Well then there must just be something about that name.

I like it, our DGD likes Sponge Bob to. Love the bright colors. Love hearing she helped you.

The pattern is Star Flower Wreath by Chickadee Charms Design Company. I started this UFO in 1997 and finished piecing it last spring...when I took credit for finishing it (shhhh, don't tell anyone). Charisma did the amazing quilting and I sewed the last stitch of the binding on yesterday.

Whoo HOOOOOOO! Ring that bell Fraew you finished it. Feels good doesn't it.

A little tinkle please. The bag on the left is one I did when I was just learning to quilt a couple of years ago and is my first attempt at FMQ.
The one on the right, showing the other side of the bag, is one I finished for DD yesterday (bought the panel just after I did the first one :o). Patience is a virtue, right? |
@Knitette: tinkle tinkle, ring ring and ding dong! :)
|
Gorgeous bags!!
Ringing those bells!! |
Ditto....gorgeous bags! I think your quilting looks great. You deserve more than a little tinkle. http://soundbible.com/1746-Ship-Bell.html Wish I could figure out how to put in a wav file so no link is necessary.

Which brings my UFO Collection down to 74 from 94 as of 10/1/2012! Gotta keep on quilting...
The pattern for Shabby Heart is called "Heather's Lacy Heart" from the book "Quick & Easy Romantic Quilts". It measures 53" by 57" and is made from Robyn Pandolph fabrics except for the heart/binding fabric which is from Blackbird Designs. I started this quilt in 2007 and it was professionally quilted by Nancy Clayburn of Quilting by Design last month. Sports Kid was pieced in 2008 using the free Warm Wishes pattern from Quiltmaker.com. It will be donated to Project Linus. |
I love those bags Knitette! Stunning. I hope my 1st attempts at FMQ look half that good!
|
@ asimplelife - gorgeous quilts. Love the colours in your heart quilt. You are joking about having 74 UFOs aren't you?

I used to be so intimidated by sandwiching, quilting and binding so I just kept doing what I loved - piecing! In the fall of 2009 I fell and badly broke my right leg and during my recovery I totally lost my crafty mojo... it wasn't until this fall that I turned on my machine. Crazy huh? Now I'm determined to turn things around and my goal is to finish a UFO a week in 2014. And learn how to FMQ (I've learned to really enjoy walking foot quilting). The good news is I have plenty of projects to write about! And I hang out in this thread. ;) |
