carriem - what a sweet surprise that is!

michelleoc - great finishes! I've always wanted to try prairie points too... good idea to start small! I like the dramatic colors in your big quilt too.

Scrappy Snowball is in the DONE! column... I really had fun quilting this one. I've been wanting to experiment with the serpentine stitch on my Juki F600 so gave it a try in the outer border. I'll definitely be using it again! This quilt is from the book "Quilts from the Heart" by Karin Renaud and it will be donated to Project Linus.

Emma S 10-07-2013 07:05 AM

Asimplelife: I am not stalking you, just in case you were worried. Love your snowball quilt. I would never have thought to put that beautiful stripe in the binding and the boarder but it is perfect for setting off the rest of the quilt, makes me really want to try one. Maybe using scrappy with fussy cut for the snowballs. Is the serpentine stitch a built in stitch on your machine?

QuilterMomma 10-07-2013 07:10 AM

Oh that is adorable. Nice work!

oksewglad 10-07-2013 07:12 AM

asimplelife--I like using the serpentine stitch as well but usually use a narrower st width to use in place of SITD. I really like how you repeat it in your border. Will have to try it this way too.
Emma S--This is a common stitch on most newer machines--may also be called a 3 stitch zigzag.

asimplelife 10-07-2013 08:35 AM

Emma S - No worries! Lol That border was a learning experience for me and I just love it... the pattern called for the background fabric which I no longer had so when I was looking through my stash for another white on white that stripe caught my eye. Then the stripe led to the pink pin dot which I would never considered for the outer border but it just all worked! I have a stripes section in my stash that I started buying for binding - but I loved the stripes as sashing in my ABC Charm Quilt and now again here as the inner border. Guess I'll start looking at stripes a bit more!

oksewglad - Yes this is a built in stitch on my new Juki. I'm thinking about doing all vertical serpentine on one of my next projects now (athough not as dense as I did on this border)... I really like the texture. Great idea to flatten it out for SITD!

Fraew 10-07-2013 07:18 PM

Eeeeek asimplelife! Love it.

asimple life. What great finishes. The colors you used are gorgeous. And I really love how you repeated the stripes in the binding on the snowball quilt. I have a couple of finishes for this month. Yay! Now the pressure is off in case I don't get anything else done...ha!This is a Halloween Cats quilt that I did as a BOM from Marjory A. Peck (2010) peckspieces.blogspot.com. This is Block by Block, from the Big Blocks Quick Quilts book by Suzanne McNeill. This is Twirling Thyme. Unfortunately, I gave the pattern away without writing down who created it. Sorry about that!

carriem 10-08-2013 09:51 AM

Always fun to catch up and see what great new projects there are posted.

Emma S 10-08-2013 12:05 PM

Michelle: Absolutely love your Halloween quilt. I especially appreciate it because I am trying my hand at applique and I know how much skill it takes. The Marjory's website is outstanding. Thank you for the link.

oksewglad 10-08-2013 04:10 PM

Hip Hip Hooray! Three cheers for three great finishes michelleoc!
You're right carrie--nice to see what others get done too.

nanna-up-north 10-09-2013 08:15 AM

Really cute, mich....... I've always wanted to make a Halloween quilt but haven't done it yet. Yours is really cute. Love the other ones as well.

Way to go michelleoc and oksewglad! October has been a good month for finishes already!

Here is my latest... Pandora's Box in Teal from the book "Jelly Roll Quilts" by Pam & Nicky Lintott. This is a double big ## finish - my #60 UFO Finish since 10/1/2012 and my 50th Finished Project for 2013.

kaelynangelfoot 10-11-2013 09:36 AM

Wow, asimplelife, you sure have been busy! Congrats on all the finishes and the quilt looks great

QuilterMomma 10-11-2013 11:28 AM

Awesome work Michelle. Love those quilts.
Asimplelife, you are doing it. You are going to finish those UFOs this year. We are believing in you to reach your goal!
Oksewglad, that is a lovely cake stand block quilt. Nice display. Look forward to seeing the tv work you are doing.

YukonViv 10-12-2013 07:49 AM

50 finishes? WOW!

Great job everyone, I'm working on another UFO, the 2012 Border Creek Mystery Quilt. I haven't worked on it in months but the reveal party is in two weeks, I am hoping to get it done! I posted my progress in the pictures forum, I can't wait till I can share with you my completed top!

michelleoc 10-13-2013 08:43 AM

oksewglad: love your quilts. They have a Civil War feeling. The fabrics are yummy!
asimplelife: 50 finishes? Great job! I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite, all your work is so nice.

Annaquilts 10-13-2013 09:52 AM

Many Trips Around the World

Here is my latest finish, Many Trips Around the World, a well-known Bonnie Hunter pattern. This pic really doesn't do it justice. The quilt is 98 x 98 and according to my calculations used 14.65 yards of fabric. I bought a wide back for it -- didn't have the patience to piece the backing for it -- but the top is all from stash.

nanna-up-north 10-14-2013 05:16 PM

lovely finishes everyone.... I'm so wishing I could get mine done.... I'm working on it.....

QuilterMomma 10-15-2013 07:47 AM

Wow that is pretty for a scrap quilt. Love it and you used your stash!!!!!

carriem 10-15-2013 08:17 AM

Some more great scrappy finishes! I am getting close on my October finish...hopefully will be able to get it all done this weekend at retreat!

oksewglad 10-15-2013 11:53 AM

Great use of color-DDuM!
Have a good time carrie.

narnianquilter 10-16-2013 03:54 AM

Wow, I feel terrible that I haven't been around more! There are some awesome finishes this week! Back at the start of the year I did a week of UFOs...and it's that time again! Between now and Sunday I am hoping to make substantial progress on my UFOs so keep watch!

It's October and I just finished my "March UFO", but who's counting?!?

oksewglad 10-18-2013 10:43 AM

I know how you feel Fraew. But it sure feels good getting it done no matter how long it has taken. And to top it off it such a pretty looking quilt--a simple design that looks great.

Emma S 10-18-2013 11:38 AM

Fraew: Lovely quilt worth the wait! Know how you feel I was completing a UFO per month until May, May's quilt took me until the end of Sept. Yeap, took me five months. October's looks on schedule to be completed by the end of the month. What are you going to be working on now, another UFO?

nanna-up-north 10-18-2013 12:21 PM

I'm not counting, Fraew.....it's a beauty..... just love it.

I'm one that can't seem to get one a month done. There are too many interruptions and too many people wanting me to do this or that..... but getting them done does feel great. And now mine is packed away to move back down to the winter house.... so, maybe next week I'll be able to get back at it.

This is from Boom 5 blocks...it became a Comfort Quilt for a church member. It is my October finish....I may have another UFO done this month because I am spending this weekend at my son's lake house. If I don't get busy cooking and cleaning for him! he is single and lives alone...and some habits are hard to break! Like doing "Mom" things!

Emma S 10-18-2013 04:37 PM

Missgiggle: Nice job and a lovely way to send comfort to a friend. Sounds like a nice weekend, have fun.

Ok, my husband is out of town until Sunday evening and I am stuck in the house with a 2 year old and a 5 month old. And my sewing machine. Here they are!

UFO started in January- finally finished and delivered:

Pieced a custom order:
Pieced my quilt (fabric has been sitting for a while now):
Began a Star Trek quilt for a wedding gift:

And made my 2 year old a Star Trek Dress for the wedding:

That's it so far! The big one was the first one with the photos, but I am glad progress is happening!

Foxflower 10-19-2013 04:29 PM

That's good progress for anyone. With a 2 old and 5 yr old present it ranks right up there with amazing. ;) By the way, way to make trekkie fabric look classy for the wedding.

narnianquilter 10-19-2013 05:02 PM

Thanks Foxflower! The bride and groom are BIG trekkies (she even has a Star Trek engagement ring) so I thought the quilt and the dress would be perfect!

carriem 10-20-2013 04:31 PM

Fraew---very pretty quilt!

Missqigglewings--nice job with the sampler blocks

Narniaquilter--you've made good progress this month. I like the photo quilt.

I had a retreat this weekend and finished my quilt for the month...started by DS when he was 10. Someone at the retreat will be sending me the picture. It's pretty big so I had help holding it up.

Fraew 10-20-2013 04:37 PM

Yay team! Getting things done.

oksewglad 10-20-2013 08:37 PM

Looking forward to seeing your "co-op" quilt Carrie.

mom-6 10-21-2013 07:12 AM

Great finishes everyone!
I'm not even sure which month I made it to, but I did get some done back the first part of the year. Then got sidetracked by a comfort quilt for a friend (which she hugs me for whenever I see her) and also got involved in swaps in the summer and and fall and have been lucky to get those done on schedule.
But I did get some done and some one step farther along (ie sandwiched &/or quilting started) so I have made progress. And that's the name of the game!
