This UFO will be going to the newest baby in our extended family who was born in July. It is from the book "Even More Quilts for Baby" by Ursula Reikes.
This was a WIP when I fell and broke my leg 4 years ago today and I was making it for another cousin's baby at the time. So in my UFO Collection it is a newbie! |
So I decided to make a quilt that the dogs could lay on, per my intro message, and that got me on a roll. I started into all sorts of projects after that. One of the things I did a while back was cut scraps into 1.5 inch strips and made a whole bunch of 9-patches. I thought I was the only one who had thought of such a neat trick to use up scraps and have at the ready for leaders and enders, but then I saw Quiltville's site!! One look through Bonnie's books and I knew that Tupelo Trails was the way I wanted to use them, so made this top for my SO's daughter who was off to college. I love how it came out! All scraps, including the backing, border, ahttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...annerquilt.jpgnd even the batting, so I felt like I was very thrifty :)
|
Then, excited to have a quilt the dogs could sleep on, I dug through my UFOs to see what might be next. I found a top from a round robin - loved the workmanship, but blue was not my color. I set out for a pink and green quilt, used blue as an accent color, and ended up with a blue quilt that I couldn't use anywhere in my house. Now that I'm all grown up and not so picky, I had a blast quilting the top am enjoying using it every day!http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...roundrobin.jpgThat top had been laying around for 20 years waiting for some attention! It's much prettier in person. Making mental note to get a better pic.
|
And since we were on a roll, Mom and I finished up a quilt for my SO that we started back in 2003 or 4. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3.../tonyquilt.jpg
|
Then I made a new quilt for my friend, but won't post here because it's not a UFO, but it was My Blue Heaven from Quiltville. Turned out super cute! And then I got busy and finished up this quilt that I also started in early 2000's. Soooooo tickled pink with how this turned out!!http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...owergarden.jpg

WOW briarwoodpups you made some great progress this month!! Keep it up and your UFOs will be done in no time.
|
Oh my, briarwoodpups, don't make me pick a favorite.
|
Love them briarwoodpups! Some great finishes:thumbup: Unlike SheriR I did pick a favorite and that's your 9P. Like you I was doing L&E before I heard of BH.:o
Oh and I see you are a new member to QB so "welcome from this Iowa Girl!" |
Carrie, these were finished this year, not this month :) But I just found your site, so wanted to share! I am so excited to find an online quilting group again after all these years! I have gone through each and every post on this thread aand looked at all the pics and you all are very inspiring! The flower quilt is from this book: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FLORAL-QUILT...p2054897.l4276
|
Love your quilts briar, regardless of when they were finished. We are so happy to have you joining us as well. It's always great to have another quilter eager to share and show their work and give us even MORE ideas for quilts to make. Love your floral quilt, 9P and the Arkansas Crossroads. Well, love them all, but those are my favorites. LOL
|
Welcome to the board and this group briarwoodpups! Gorgeous finishes too... I want to make a quilt from small 9 patches one day so I'm really partial to that beauty! Great job.
|
Briarwood: Great quilts! Just recently was bitten by the applique bug so your flower quilt is really inspiring. Then of course there is that great scrappy love the design. In short great work welcome to the group, because of their inspiration I have finished five bedsize UFO's this year and am working on the sixth.

Oh my, what a wonderful show Briar, those are simply awesome finishes. Way to use up those scraps.
Here is a finish. This little guy has been sitting around since 2005 because I was afraid to quilt him or forgot about it. I did this all on my domestic machine, Bernina 165. The pattern is from Elenanor Burns Delectible Mountains. This quilt measures 13 x 13. Took me 3 hours to quilt it. |
Looks awesome quiltermomma!
|
QMomma any one who thinks a small quilt doesn't take much time hasn't made one! Very nice.

Finished binding this one today, a UFO from last winter. I had originally planned to give it to my niece (8 yrs old) who loves cats, pink, and purple, but she saw it while it was in progress and didn't like it because the cats weren't realistic. I'm very glad I found out before I gave it to her, and will probably end up donating it to Project Linus.

I think your cat quilt is fabulous! I have it on my list of quilts to make some day. LOL
|
kaelyn--that is a fun quilt that will be appreciated by some little girls. I like your flowers in the quilting.
|
Question: Do you have to do the quilting yourself or, after it's pieced, can it be sent to someone else for quilting and then you put on the binding?
|
Wonnie, I'm not sure I understand your question's application. If you mean for it to count as a finished UFO, you can finish it any way you want. We are a very relaxed and supportive group, and our only purpose is to cheer and encourage one another in getting those UFO's out and finished.
Some have even "finished" a project by giving it away as they no longer cared for it. It still counts, because it is no longer in their pile of UFOs. So you see, we are very open and accepting in our interpretations of all things related to this thread. Basically, it's you make your own rules and we support and encourage you. Some of us set goals, but it's not required, and if you set them, and don't meet them, we will give you hugs and urge you to try again next month. Welcome to our thread, huggggggggs and smiles PS: If your question was in reference to something else, please let us know more so we can give you a more proper answer. |
Thanks for your quick response, wildcard. Have a few very pressing projects to get out but when they are done will join your group.
|
Some of us just wander in and out so you are welcome to as well. Lol! I did really well at the beginning of the year, but got bogged down in other things and have been doing everything in the world but UFOs lately. I do still check in on everyone's progress though.
Love seeing all the beautiful finishes!!!! |

Another table runner finished this morning...I gave it away already too...to a lady (in her mid-80s) a couple miles away who offered us some apples and peaches. She was so surprised and was looking forward to using it right away. :)
DD chose the backing and binding. ***guess I should have gotten a close up of the flower fabric. |
Carrie: So nice, bet it made her day.

Everyone has beautiful finishes this month (as always!). You've been very busy. I only have a couple, because I got distracted making receiving blankets. The first one is just a little table topper. A friend gave me the fabric piece and I wanted to try prairie points. The second finish is a quilt that I started in 2008 called Somewhere In Time. It was the 2008 BOM on BlockCentral.com. I was making it to go on our bed, but it took me so long to finish it we now have a bigger bed! So maybe I'll just put it in the family room to cuddle with when we watch TV - my husband and I always fight over the one we are currently using, it's too small for the both of us!

Hi there! I've wandered in an out over the year when I've done some work on a UFO...I've been trying over the past year to do some substantial work on a UFO every time I start something new. Kind of like a check and balance.
As the new fall session of classes will be starting shortly at our quilt shop (and I've signed up for 3!!) I pulled a UFO out this weekend to work on it. I pulled out my Border Creek Mystery Quilt from two years ago. As of last night I only needed to sew two seams (my last two border pieces) and the quilt top will be complete. Whew. Last week I pulled out some UFO blocks (string quilt blocks) and put them together for a table runner which immediately went on our coffee table once the binding was done. Slowly by surely I'm getting some UFOs finished, or repurposed. My first class is in 3 weeks...gives me time to work on one more UFO then I'll feel better about starting the 3 new class projects. |
michelleoc.... that r,w and b floral is fabulous and your table topper with prairie points is so pretty and cheerful, I love it!!! Also love your quilt. I'm not sure of the color on my screen so am wondering what the second bright color with the red is. It looks almost coral on mine, but whatever it is, I really love it with the red. Great jobs!!!
Viv.... hope you will post some photos for us to oohhhhhh and ahhhhh over. We really love seeing what everyone has done!! Happy to have you with us. Hugs and smiles everyone!!! |
Nice kitty quilt kaelyn! Nice detail on quilting.
Asimplelife, love that baby quilt! Feeling good you must be. Carriem, love that table runner. You are doing such great work! Just on these last two pages, such inspiration for finishing out quilts. Love the UFO Quilt Show we have created here. |
Take me back Somewhere In Time! Love it for sure. And another table runner Carriem. You are on a roll!

i did get a finish this weekend as well. A tablerunner, but it was not a UFO, it was leftover fabric from the swap, had to make one for myself.
But, this one is a finish for me. I had all those orphan blocks from swaps all over the place that did not fit into any quilts from last year. So put them together in this one and just played with some free motion quilting. It is dangerous for me to watch you tube videos on quilting. LOL |
Looks great QuilterMomma, really nice job on the quilting especially!
|
What a cheerful quilt. Love the happy colors.
|
QM, I could have used those pinwheel orphans to finish a UFO! Ugh!!!! ;)

Love seeing all the beautiful finishes!!!! |
QM--what a fun finish...maybe someday I can quilt like that!
|
Remember, it took me lots of UFO finishes to get to this point on quilting. LOL:o:D
Well Fraew, you need to let us know if you are needing such things. I may have a couple more, I am not sure. If you need them I can check. |
QM your quilt is just beautiful, and the FMQ'ing - stunning! What a great finish!!
|
wildyard - good eye, it's kind of a coral color. Thanks for the comments. I'm so glad to have it done so I can work on something a little smaller now!

QuilterMomma- your quilt is gorgeous and so is your quilting!
Mod Art is UFO Finish #42 in 2013 and #58 since 10/1/2102. The bright charms were from a swap which I had sewn together into 4 patches and started sashing together into rows when it became a UFO in 2008. I've fallen hard for black & white prints lately so I added the cornerstones, made an extra row of blocks and finished it off with more B&W prints. It will be donated to Project Linus (already washed and ready!). |
