I love those quilts Vicki. Making things work together is always a challenge but you did good.
|
QM and Vicki..... wonderful!!! They are all great..... good job!

I'm getting closer to finishing the string quilt that is taking forever. The name is Atlantis for the Lost Continent, its a king size.
In prep for starting the next UFO, a blue and white Irish chain, I pulled the pieces out to iron and sort. I used the strip method to piece it. The top is about 3/4's done. Well my strip cutting is less than perfect, really could not figure out what they were supposed to be, they wandered between 2.5 and 2.75. What's a quarter inch among friends? Well this is another that my skill level is now better, I will no doubt have to fudge alot to get it to work. These wrecks are now being called utility quilts. They didn't start out that way, but I'm not proud of them. |
Annaquilts - the bunnies were part of the McCall's pattern. I saw it and I just had to make it. Both my DH and DS think that the bunnies look weird. When I want their opinion I'll give it to them!
|
QuilterMomma - I loved the little pumpkin quilt. Made me think that I'm sure I have some kind of fall UFO that I should get started on. But your appliqued quilt??? Absolutely stunning! You do wonderful work.
VickiM - I love both of your quilts. I especially like how there is just a "pop" of brightness. Very nicely done. |
VickiM
Those are so beautiful. I love how pastel they are with an occasional zinger of some brighter colors..

I bet it is gorgeous. As for the utility quilts, I find those are the most used and loved quilts always. They'll be great. Can't wait to see them all, Atlantis and utility quilts. |
Anna: Thanks for your encouragement. This thread has really helped me to stick with finishing UFOs, judging from the great pictures, I'm not the only one.
|
QM - your appliqued quilt is amazing! WOW
Vicki - I love the layout of your scrap quilts. Summertime has put a crimp in my UFO finishes but I've been busy getting UFOs to the flimsy stage instead so now that cooler weather is on the scene I'm ready to start getting some quilting done. My youngest and I have had two college visits in the last two weeks... hard to believe he is a senior! |
Emma, it will be so worthwhile when you do finish and we all are looking forward to seeing it. Look how long some of mine have been to get done. I do have a crazy star quilt that needs to be done that is really old as well. I am hoping to get started on that after all the chaos of gardening and the quilt show are done.

thank you ladies for the comments on my applique quilt. I was a bit disappointed when I went to the fair and it only received a first. Oh I know a first you should feel real good about. I had my heart set on a best of category on it or best of show with a WSQ ribbon attached even if was third place. But alas, it did not win. Some monochromatic quilts won. Since you all know me, on all my quilts, where is the monochromatic at. I love color way to much and the boldness of my quilts runs rampid thru my veins. I may try for a calmer quilt, but that may end up a UFO. I went thru my list of quilts on hand that need done, WIPs and some UFOs, and not one of them is a calm color quilt. They all use vibrant colors. I have a pickle dish that uses softer greens and lavender, maybe that is what they are looking for. I will enter that one next year when done.
|
QuilterMomma, your applique quilt is gorgeous!!! It certainly deserved more than a first. Maybe next year's judges will be more "color oriented." I've managed to finish a couple UFO's, but haven't taken pictur4es of them yet. Hopefully will post soon. Congratulations, everyone, on all your beautiful finishes!!!! You all keep me motivated!

I admire quilters who enter their work in shows... I'm crazy competitive when it comes to sports (went to college on a track scholarship) but I enjoy quilting so much as relaxation that it would probably be counter productive for me. I avoid quilting guilds for the same reason actually - guess I'm a happy solo quilter who finds that online motivation/support works best for me!
Now that I think about it... I've never even been to a quilt show. As much as I love seeing sample quilts at my LQS I should probably attend one. |
I like to have my quilts judged so I know that I am hitting the mark. Having an objective opinion lets me know what to improve on. I find my biggest thing is I love color and when you are judged, you are under their objective opinion of what is best to them. That is the kicker in small shows. But in bigger shows, they really do scrutinize every little inch of your quilt. I can say after speaking with some of the Best of Show winners in the big shows, that they will tell you that there are mistakes in their quilts, just not as apparent as one would think. At least I get to enjoy it. Hanging the applique one on my wall. I do need to put on the hanging sleeve. If I had to point out a possible error they may have counted me down on, is the scallops. I wonder if they were to deep. then when putting on the binding on the edges, I wanted to be sure that both my lines of quilting were apparent, I wonder if they thought it was a mistake and I did not cover up my stitching the binding on. I will see if they comment on it. then I will rip it off and redo it again just to be sure is done right before the next quilt show in October.
Yes, you need to go to a quilt show just to admire the beauty of other's work up close and personal. |
Michelleoc- I love that 2nd one! You did a great job on all the finishes!

I'm getting back into the quilting zone now that fall weather has arrived... here is Charm Quilt #4 which will be donated to donated to Project Linus. Hopefully Charm Quilt #5 will follow in a day or a two.
|
Cute charm quilt, asimplelife. I need to make a baby quilt for a great nephew's new baby but haven't gotten the mood to get it started..... and I am trying so hard to finish the UFOs as well. This quilt looks like it would be perfect.... cute fabrics... I may have to take a break from UFOs to get one done. Thanks for the inspiration.
|
So come cut up my scraps so i can make one of those adorable charm quilts. LOL I know you saw it asimplife. thanks for the info on how to organize it. that pile comes from last years push to get UFOs done. I need to have a scrap busting thread so I can do that. I know there is a stash busting thread, but need that scrap one. LOL
I do have the scrap thread marked. I just can't seem to give it away. I did give away about 10 pounds of fabric to a young lady starting in quilt. I told DH that I am going to just have to sew it together and make up a bunch of scrap quilts to donate. Maybe I should mad dash them all together and sell them at the craft show for $75 a piece just to use up the scraps. |

QuilterMomma - I wish I could! Oddly I don't care much for cutting yardage for a new quilt but I love taking my scrap bin and cutting it up in to useable pieces. I have bins of squares and strips cut and ready to sew... my favorite kind of quilting is with scraps.
Nanna-up-north - Thank you... these charms are 6.5" which are perfect to show off those fun fabrics. I belonged to an online swap group years ago so I just love seeing them finally ready to be loved by someone small. Yesterday on my blog I showed a picture of my 10" stack of charm squares on my closet shelf for future quilts. LOL Here is Charm Quilt #5 - UFO Finish #37 for 2013. I like the mix of softer colors with pops of bright in this one. I am so glad I discovered freehand walking foot waves for quilting - I think it looks great on these patchwork quilts. And it is fast and fun to do! |

Wanted to post my most recent finish, a UFO dating back around 15 years. This finish definitely would not have happened without the encouragemwnt of this and the "therapy" thread so thanks gals!
|
Beautiful finishes! Keep up the good work!!!
I kinda fell by the wayside lately. |
Awesome finishes!
|
asimplelife--I really like the way you have quilted this last little charmer.
DDuMouchel--that is fantastic-you have given me an idea too. |
OK--a great idea for using all those mini 9-patches!! :)
|
DDuMouchel - I just love all of those 9 & 4 patches! The smaller the better... what a great layout.
|
asimplelife - beautiful charm quilts - they will be loved, I am sure.
DDuMouchel - Your quilt is gorgeous! Boy, all those little pieces...very impressive. |

I finally got this airplane quilt done...not an old UFO, just a quilt I started in January and was planning to finish in June...driver's ed running around took more time than expected, then I hurt my shoulder in July so was very limited on sewing time the last couple month. It is cloudy here today so the picture isn't the best. First time I've done a "flange" in the binding....not perfect, but it will do. :)
|
Looks great to me! A lot of hours and hard work paid off in a great quilt, Carrie!!
|
Absolutely beautiful Carriem, well done
|
Wow Carriem! Are the planes paper pieced? Love the pop of red in the flange. I've never tried that technique either but I think it looks great on your quilt.
|
Yeah Carrie and well done!!! I know you are sewglad this is fun and done. It has come together oh so nice.

asimplelife--yes the planes are pp'd...except the very front triangle...that was sewn when I added the "sky" corner. It is "raw edge" since I haven't learned any other "applique" yet.

For anyone looking to use up scraps, check out the scrappy quilt album here on the QB. You will have so many ideas. There are pages and pages of wonderful scrappy quilts, with more being added all the time. I love checking out the albums when wanting ideas for quilts. There is so much talent on this board. I always get more ideas than I can ever use!
|
carriem, great quilt. ...... super colors and theme. I know someone that would love this one, got his pilot's license a year ago and still on cloud nine.
|
Beautiful quilt Carriem...beautiful doesn't have to be perfect!
|
Wow Carrie, that turned out just beautiful! A job very well done :)
|
Carrie: Your quilt is amazing. That flange technique is really a winner, so striking.
