Vicki, beautiful bright quilts! Especially like that you used every last scrap of fabric.

QuilterMomma 07-30-2013 08:49 AM

Nice work VickiM, those are pretty. Awesome that you have finished one a month and then one. You keep it up girl!

VickiM 07-30-2013 05:42 PM

Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone...helps to spur me on! :)

I forgot to say I'm loving all the finishes I've seen on here...it helps one to get going on them, as others have said.

My Daughters Table Topper

1 Attachment(s)
This is a quilt I started in 2010..it is actually a twin size, but my daughter uses it on her Dining room table with a clear plastic cover on it! It was a cheater fabric that I really loved. So all I did was sandwich and quilt it! My daughter loves it more then the pieced quilts I have made her....go figger!

nanna-up-north 07-31-2013 05:59 AM

MGW, it's a very nice cheater fabric.... and really fits well for a tablecloth with the fruit. It's another UFO finished and out of the way..... Yeah!!!

I agree with others..... it helps to see everyone getting things done. I need to get back at it..... but company coming....... in due time I guess.

michelleoc 07-31-2013 10:31 AM

I've been away from the boards for most of the month - I THOUGHT I'd be productive in my quilting room, but...not so much. (I do have two finishes for July that I need to post. I just need to remember how to do it!) Now, as for all I've seen while reviewing the posts...

WOW, all of the work that everyone has put in is just amazing!!

Nanna-up-north - LOVE the cabin quilt. I love how the slashing and putting back together came out.
QuilterMomma - beautiful work, I must say. The quilting...gorgeous (I'm a little green, if'n you know what I mean!)
createfourpaws - the Tshirt quilt is so cute. I'm glad they were patient with you. You certainly had a valid reason for taking so long to finish it! I hope you are well and raring to go now.
VickiM - three finishes...wow! They are all beautiful and I'm impressed with how you were able to use all your fabric.
missgigglewings - the table topper is darling. Great idea to put plastic over the top of it. I never would have thought of that, just complained about how often I would have to wash it!!

I know when we finish something that we started years ago, we can't believe it's take us so long to do it, but I think it's cool to say "I started this five years ago (insert your own time frame)" and be able to say that it's DONE.

July finishes (nothing like waiting until the last minute!!). Pattern is called St. Tropez. It was a free pattern from Art Gallery Fabrics (designed by Pat Bravo). I did this as a high school graduation gift for my niece, who is going back east to college at UPenn next month. This is the embroidery on the corner of the quilt.
This pattern is made from some of my scraps. The pattern is called Modern Dreams and it's from QUILT Magazine. Unfortunately there is no date on the bottom of the page I photocopied, but I think it's at least a couple of years old.

QuilterMomma 07-31-2013 05:22 PM

I like those quilts michelle. They show personality. I like the bottom one better. For a scrappy, it is pretty organized, makes it smooth on the eyes. I was watching the quilt show today on value, hue, and saturation. I think that helps us in our scrappy quilts even though they are not organized if we keep these in mind when putting together. That is what I think makes these quilts work great.

oksewglad 07-31-2013 06:46 PM

Nice finishes everyone!

nanna-up-north 08-01-2013 05:31 AM

Very nice quilts, Michelle. I just love getting them finished!! Great job!

I have 2 finishes to add... one was in July but I never got it posted. Busy month of travel and then a bout of cellulitis in my knee that kept me off my feet for several days. The antibiotics are starting to do their thing and I've been able to sew again the last few days. Hoping for good things in August...

These are 2 of 5 Charm Quilt UFOs in my closet... simple patchwork using 6.5" novelty squares from online swaps. The layout I used on #1 I really like - I think the background squares show off the fun prints better. I quilted them both with walking foot freehand waves. These are UFO Finishes #33 & #34 for 2012 (and #49 and #50 since 10/1/2012).

Guess what? I'm straddling the halfway point of my UFO Collection with 51 to go!!

asimplelife 08-02-2013 11:24 AM

QuilterMomma - your quilting is so well done! I really like the those cute Umbrella girls.

Nanna-up-north - I love how you used the those fabrics! And the quilting is great too. It would look right at home in my MN Up North house!

asimplelife 08-02-2013 11:28 AM

missgigglewings - that makes a great table cloth! Some fabrics shouldn't be cut up and that is one of them.

michelleoc - both of your quilts are gorgeous! I especially love that red paisley fabric. What a nice gift.

asimplelife 08-02-2013 11:33 AM

Createfourpaws - I think this is prettiest T shirt quilt I have ever seen! The sashing around the shirts really adds a lot.

VickiM - way to go with 3 finishes! I particularly like the mix of border fabric and pinwheels on the 1st one - something I wouldn't think to do. Eye-catching!

Sorry for the multiple posts everyone but I'm so behind... going page by page to catch up.

oksewglad 08-02-2013 12:02 PM

asimplelife--I was wondering where I saw your I spy quilt and it's on your blog! I do enjoy following it. OBTW like the stacked sticks or stick stacks (whatever) you are working on now. I can see it with a cream/tan main color and jewel tones especially turquoise rust and browns for a SW look. Also a black main color with KT and Jo Morton type fabrics. Or how about a cream floral and some Civil War fabs!

michelleoc 08-03-2013 09:15 PM

asimplelife - your last two entries are very nice. You stack of UFO's is diminishing day-by-day!

I really like that pattern too (Strip Stacks by G.E. Designs)! I'm including a pic to show the rest of you... the blocks are huge so they sew up quickly and I think the vertical design is really different and eye catching. There are many "not so pretty" scraps hidden in these blocks!

I love ALL of of your ideas - I have been thinking batiks as well as a Christmas version since I already have a bunch of the coins (2.5" x 5.5") needed from a swap I did a few years ago.

mom-6 08-04-2013 05:07 PM

Asimplelife - I really like your quilt. Wish I had seen it before I started sewing my 2-1/2" scrap batiks together. However I'm liking what I have so far. Just am going to need about as many more as I've done already to have it big enough for anything. Seemed like a lot more scraps when they were just all in a pile!

carriem 08-04-2013 06:16 PM

asimplelife--some more great quilts!

nanna-up-north 08-07-2013 07:53 AM

Simplelife, I am amazed...... 51 quilts to go? .... and I've just gotten 1 done so far. But, my company is gone today and I plan to get started on quilting my matching quilt for the guest room. More company will be here on Tuesday..... I really need to get the 2nd quilt finished.

I did check out your blog.... wonderful is all I can say....or fantastic!!

I am excited to finally post the photo of my finished giant t-shirt quilt. My dh mailed it off before I got a pic of the finished quilt so I had to wait for one from the happy new owner. Here it is in all it's monster sized glory! LOL

Sorry it's so blurry, it didn't look so bad in smaller size. L.

QuilterMomma 08-08-2013 11:34 AM

Talk about HUGE!!!!!! That is a monster to say the least.

asimplelife 08-08-2013 12:58 PM

Thank you nanna-up-north! I'm kind of amazed myself.

How big is that quilt wildyard? I don't think I've ever seen a 2 story quilt!

wildyard 08-08-2013 01:40 PM

I believe it finished up at 156 x 134.... I offered to make 2 quilts from the shirts but he really wanted them all in one big one... so that's what he got. LOL

carriem 08-08-2013 02:52 PM

wildyard--great finish!!

mimiknoxtaylor 08-08-2013 03:06 PM

Great finish Wildyard! I thought the t-shirt quilt I finished in May was huge at queen size but that's a monster. Mine was heavy so your's must have been super heavy.
I've fallen way behind on UFO's. With having health problems & being OFT I've gotten zero finished-but lots started or worked on.

Another Charm Quilt in the finished column... this is Charm Quilt #3 and puts me over the TOP of UFO Mountain with 51 finished and 50 to go! It will be my 18th donation quilt to Project Linus this year.

It feels GREAT to be over halfway... it's all downhill now~ :D

nanna-up-north 08-09-2013 09:29 AM

Wildyard..... how did you ever quilt it???? It sure wouldn't have fit on my quilting frame.... and would be pretty difficult to fit under my sewing machine throat. WoW!! Nice job!!

Down to 50, simplelife??? Amazed again!! Keep 'em coming!!

michelleoc 08-09-2013 09:56 AM

Wildyard...that is one ginormous quilt! I'd like to know how you quilted something that size as well. That could keep a whole neighborhood warm!!

simplelife - you're on the downhill slide. Good for you!!!

michelleoc 08-10-2013 10:28 PM

Like the rest of you, I'm trying to decrease the number of UFO's I have. Then, when I saw that some people were keeping track of the number of UFO's they have and subtracting when they complete them, I decided that this was a good idea. A good idea, yes, but I have made some discoveries.
1. I have entirely too many UFO's!
2. When I was going through and counting, I realized that I have at least two projects that I only have a picture for, and no instructions. This should be interesting.
3. I've had some of these UFO's so long that when I went back and looked at them, I thought, "What was I thinking?" Colors that are no longer in style, etc.
4. I took a project out to start today and realized that I must have been asleep when I cut out the pieces, because what the instructions say I need and what I actually cut out are two different things. The worst part? It's been in my "to do" pile for so long that the fabrics are no longer available, necessitating extra time to figure out how to adapt it to work with what I have.

Do you think, after discovering all of this, that in the future I might not procrastinate so much on getting these projects started? It's possible, but I'll think about it tomorrow...

cherrybsixty 08-10-2013 11:29 PM

Michelleoc, all four points well taken. Hi everyone I'm just an ole lurker from the 'Vintage' scene but, I do love to stop and lurk around here a minute. I have a UFO that a cousin gave to me a few years back and I am still wrestling with it. Last week I took it to the community center where a few ladies go and quilt and do what we do. Their opinion on this UFO was to replace some fabric pieces and keep going. I keep wrestling with it. Say a little pray for me while I struggle with this one.

BoJangles 08-11-2013 06:15 AM

Great finishes everyone, but Linda how in the world did you quilt that giant T-shirt quilt? I have never seen a quilt as large as that one, geeze I thought I did large quilts because mine are always over 100 x 100!

You all inspire me! I need to get back into my sewing room, but I have been riding everyday I can, horse camping too! Which means I haven't finished a UFO since May's finish! I had all these big plans of finishing one UFO a month when I joined this thread in January! My bad!

This group really could be called Procrastinators Are Us. Ugh! I can't remember my last finish.

I think this group is a great idea! Lot's of people getting those UFO's done! The rest of us just need to get on the band wagon! But, yes there are those of us who are Procrastinators for sure, hence the "challenge' part of this thread!

I just joined QB but I already had the goal to finish 12 UFOs this year--I'm up to 5 so I'm a bit behind. I hope to finish 2 when I go on a retreat at the end of the month. I made a spreadsheet and counted 67 projects...but I'm working on them.

Shari welcome aboard! I also finished 5 - I did really good until May! I am also still working on them and hope to finished 12 before the end of the year, but I am just glad I got those first 5 done! I also have a list, but only about 14 to start with! Happy sewing!

Ok ladies, I am in need of some encouragement. I have this QAYG that I MUST FINISH by Wednesday evening. I really don't have that much to do, just finishing off 6 rows and then binding. But I am having an AWFUL time getting motivated. Here's a pic of the little monster:

It's a gift for my cousin and he is leaving for college thursday. As i told him the baby is not included!

BoJangles 08-13-2013 04:57 AM

Narnian you can do it! Geeze, you have done most of the work already! Just think how proud of yourself you will be when you finish! We will be expectly photos of the finished quilt!
