asimplelife--I really like your star quilt. The stockings are cute too.

Finish for March

This was the first QAYG that I attempted. Except for the fact that I messed up in my orientation of one of the back panels, I'm pretty pleased with it....and I actually did a "not so bad for me" meandering on it!
And it's my best binding to date!

Mary--great job on your first QAYG project! You will have fun using that next fall!!

michelleoc 03-31-2013 04:25 PM

ShadowIrish: What a cute quilt. Did you like doing QAYG?

On my daughter's 10th birthday she & her friends painted these squares. There were 10 girls there so some of the squares have gotten misplaced but I came up with 7 so I put 1 on the back. That was 22 years ago & I plan on giving it to her on her 33rd birthday this August.
It's still got the binding to go & a label but I'm counting it as my March finish. I plan to do those in the next couple of days so that it will really be done before I have surgery for severe carpal tunnel on my right hand. (7 weeks post op on the left one now).

Hi michelleoc,
I did actually! It lined up much better than I thought it would and I was chicken to try meandering a large piece,so did this in two pieces. I messed up in the placement of one of the back side panels (and I checked it several times!) but overall it was easier than I had anticipated. I will try it again...but I also think I gained enough courage to try and quilt a whole quilt in one piece.

I also think black thread on black fabric is very forgiving!

michelleoc 03-31-2013 05:20 PM

Mimi - what a wonderful gift for your daughter! That is just precious.

mimi--what a special gift for your daughter.

michelleoc--a couple more UFOs to check off the list. I like the baby quilt...good job on the quilting

oksewglad 04-01-2013 09:10 AM

Oh nice finishes--such different colors and designs. I really like the soft colors of the baby quilt

Lorrainep 04-01-2013 03:52 PM

I've just found this thread - what a brilliant way to spur us on. I'm now itching to finish my UFOs, from my gorgeous 9 month old grandson's quilt to the two wall hangings and the big 'o' bag I'm making with a friend for a member of our quilting group to the hand pieced 'thingy' on my design wall to ... Oops, I think I'd better stop posting and start sewing!:D

narnianquilter 04-01-2013 04:09 PM

Great finishes you guys! Everything is looking wonderful! Lorrainep, welcome to our numbers! I've only been here a little bit but I have found that this board is a great motivator for getting things done. Good luck, and can't wait to see your finishes!

dublb 04-01-2013 04:34 PM

OH! So much has been accomplished while I was gone! Ring the bells & sing the song!!!! :) I loved everybody's finishes!
A special note ta Carrie. I saw your purple & orange quilt & had ta do a 'double take' look back at your name. I doesn't look like a quilt ya would make. However it is just stunnin'! Once I read your post I understood & I'm quite sure your friend will love it. :)

Emma S 04-02-2013 04:50 AM

Amazing everyone! Everyone has been so productive. I am still plodding along with my March. Just have the hand work on the binding then it will be done. Saw some very ambitious plans for April, havn't decided what mine will be yet. As you decide please share.

michelleoc 04-02-2013 07:37 AM

Lorraine - welcome to the UFO thread! I've found it a very helpful motivator.
Emma - the advantage of finishing your project now, you get credit at the beginning of the month and that takes the pressure off! I was working on something for March that didn't get done til yesterday. Hoping to post it today and viola, I've already accomplished something for April!

Emma S 04-02-2013 04:15 PM

Michelle: Beautiful job of rationalization and I bet the nice people on this thread would let me get away with it. Problem is I made the rule that I will finish one UFO a month, so even if I finished it in Dec. it would still be March's UFO. I know I should have thought the "rules" out more carefully.

michelleoc 04-02-2013 07:56 PM

Emma: Bottom line, you are almost finished with your project! Yay!

narnianquilter 04-02-2013 09:04 PM

Michelle- I agree that's a great way to look at it! Now if I can just get off my duff and get moving on April's UFO...I HAVE to get this one done, it is a commission piece and I want it OUT OF MY HOUSE before I deliver our 2nd child at the end of the month. Seriously, this is one project that just has to go!

Emma S 04-03-2013 04:51 AM

Michelle: You are so right! I am actually proud of my finishes since I am notorious in my family for my starts. I think I get so intense about it because I don't want to loose my momentum. Thanks for the refocus, after all I am having fun.
Narnian: Talk about a deadline. The last month of my pregnancies I did alot of vegetating. Kept waiting for that last month surge of energy, never came. Condradulations on the little one!

looks absolutely fabulous to me! You have one done, I am still in the thinking stages of getting one done. We are our own worst critic, aren't we.

Here is my UFO Finish for the week - Bright Blue Strings. The blocks were from a HGTV Quilting Forum swap several years ago. I'll be back to comment on everyone else's projects... my main computer is kaput! at the moment and I only have access to pictures from my laptop.

carriem 04-05-2013 08:50 AM

asimplelife--that really is a fun quilt! The bright blues frame each "block" nicely. :)

asimplelife 04-05-2013 09:22 AM

Thank you carriem! I agree, I love how my eyes want to "travel" all along those shades of blue. I think it's so amazing how blocks from many quilter's stashes come together.

Ditto for me! Earlier this week I blogged about being UFO Obsessed and finally started 2 new projects that I'd been stalling on (I get to start a new project after I finish 10 UFOs). I worry that my newly found Finish Mojo will vanish.

asimplelife 04-05-2013 09:33 AM

michelleoc: I love your March finishes, especially that baby quilt with the beautiful quilting and lovely soft florals! Way to go!
mimiknoxtaylor: What a great idea for those blocks! I hope I can remember that someday when/if I have grandchildren.
Shadowirish: Your QAYG quilt looks great! I really want to try that technique.

I was able to finish 3 this month for a total for 6 an my goal is to complete them all before the end of the year. I have not started any new projects and would really like to finish all UFO's before starting something new.

Good luck everyone and keep up the good work.

The only reason I've been able to finish so many is because mine are mostly crib size (thank GOODNESS!). If all of mine were large quilts I'd be sunk! Good for you, you are making great progress.

Emma S 04-05-2013 10:55 AM

Asimplelife: Your string quilt is beautiful! The UFO I hope to finish in May is a string quilt QAG. Want to take a rest from sandwiching.

I've set a goal of one UFO a month, and here is the finished one for March. I made the blocks years ago and decided to get them sewn into something. Wow, have my quilting abilities improved!! I even had to take some of the seams out and redo, clearly I didn't know about scant 1/4 in. and didn't realize the importance! haha. I put pink flannel on the back and it will be my nap time coverlet.

Emma S 04-05-2013 04:31 PM

Lynda Rae: So soft and cuddly looking. I could definately picture taking a nap with it.

carriem 04-05-2013 05:38 PM

Lynda Rae-that is a very pretty quilt...great job getting it finished.

Foxflower 04-05-2013 09:22 PM

Lynda Rae....love the colors. Very sweet.

Sapphire_Rae 04-06-2013 06:46 AM

Thank you ladies. Feels good to get these UFOs done. Thank you all on this thread for the inspiration to keep going. I have picked the April project, and easy one, just have to quilt and bind. Everyone, keep the pictures coming, there are such wonderful quilts/projects, love seeing what you are doing.

michelleoc 04-06-2013 07:02 AM

Simple - LOVE your string quilt. It's so vibrant and happy.
Sapphire Rae - your quilt is SO pretty. The colors are very soothing and it looks like the perfect nap quilt!

michelleoc 04-06-2013 01:10 PM

Okay, I finished my first April UFO. I've been working for the past half hour to try to get the picture to show up here. I've resized it and everything. My brain feels like it's going to explode so I'll try again later.

Finally got the picture to show up!! I could have had another quilt done by this time. April UFO. My long-time friend had all these pink squares left over that she gave to me, so I adapted A Moda Bakeshop Original Recipe (Heart Garden quilt). I'm giving it to a friend that decorates her house for each holiday, and she actually didn't have a Valentine's Day quilt. I hope she likes it.

I finally got the binding on my Craftsy 2012 BOM Quilt. First time I machine quilted, which was a challenge as I usually hand quilt. Lots of fun, but so happy I am finished.

cpmaple 04-07-2013 02:27 PM

Beautiful quilt! Love those hearts!

Emma S 04-07-2013 04:08 PM

Michelle, your friend will love the quilt! It will be a real picker upper on display during those gloomy days of Feb.

Cpmaple, really beautiful finish and congratulations on your plunge into FM.
