Smart to finish something before beginning something new. I think I have quilting ADD. I have many started, many to start, and I keep starting something new. Beware!!!
|
Happy to be on this year's train. Thank you, Janice!
|
I'm so glad someone directed me to this thread. I wrote a list of my UFOs Dec. 31 and was wondering how I would motivate myself. I am tired of the space they are taking up sooooooooo here I am. I love the idea of completing one each month but then that's only 12 this month. LOL On you mark, get set, and GO!!!!
|
Back for another round! Thanks Janice for leading us. A fairly quick tally of UFOs is 12 but there might be some lurking somewhere I have forgotten about. Last year my goal was six but I didn't make that.
But it's a new year so my goal will again be six. :) |
Janice McC, Let me try this again--Please count on me as I have never ever participated on a on-line event. I really need this as I have "tons" of UFOs. Today, I am inventorying my projects as I do every New Years. It is rather embarrassing but this is a general review:
--"Block Exchange" groupings --halfway completed projects --completed quilt tops needing to be sandwiched, quilted, and bind --the most awful shower curtain my daughter talked me into converting it to a comforter; UGHHHHHH!!! Thanks for hosting this and looking forward to the challenge. Karen |
Would love to be a part of this group for 2017! I hope the group motivation will push me toward many UFO completions this year! I have projects stashed in boxes, tins, on my design wall, drawers, and lots of secret places! Look forward to seeing lots of beautiful projects from fellow train members!!!
Thanks to all fellow riders for helping me get motivated and move ahead in 2017! |
I'll join you. I actually started on 12/31. I am determined to finish things and use up some of my stash to do so. Some of the projects just need binding.
|
I would like to participate too. How do I sign up or do I just declare my intentions here.
As to projects to finish I have two main ones. First I belong to Operation First Responders and have tons of patriotic fabric. My goal is to finish up all these roughly cot or twin size quilts and get them turned in. This is probably about 1 or 2 a month and they are very easy quilts such as log cabin or disappearing 9 patch. I can easily piece one every day or two if I keep on task. My second goal is to make more grown up quilts for grand kids who still have ones for little guys. It will be 13 if I make one for each child for their birthday. That's five by mid March and the rest in Sept to early Nov. I did one for my granddaughter this fall, so one is done and gifted. If I finish all these my tenative goal is to finish up my kits which I purchased on sale. I have at least four, I think, including a Christmas quilt for our bed. |
Count me in! Two hand quilting projects-one for a baby who just turned 4!
|
Hi Guys,
Count me in this year.... I really want to finish some UFO's this year... I would love to finish them all, but I will commit to 12 projects...... 6 small ones (yes I start small things and put them aside and forget them) and 6 larger projects. I would like to post an item to finish at the start of every month to help motivate me... So I shall endeavour to do this. For January I commit to finishing my nephews ABC quilt! Hugs to all. Caroline |
Welcome to all of the newcomers. This is an awesome thread and you will enjoy looking at everyone's finishes.
I have 2 UFO's left (unless I find more hidden in a box/bin.). Lol! I have one UFO at the flimsy stage and I really want to finish this one rather than donate it for someone else to finish. I have only done very basic quilting like cross hatching but I want this one to be a little more detailed around the blocks. Connie |
Please add me in this 2017 Challenge ... I have my list of 12 UFO's. One from 2004 oops. For January I have chosen a small 4 patch lap quilt..I have the flimsy and pieced backing ready to sandwich. Hope to post finished project before end of month :)

New traveler here! I currently have two quilts sandwiched and waiting to be quilted and 9 smaller projects cut and waiting patiently in baggies. I am going to commit to finishing the two quilts and at least 6 of the baggie projects. I just need some encouragement to get going and hopefully that will happen with this group! Hold me accountable, people!
|
Count me in. I have baggies and boxes and baskets of unfinished objects. I also buy kits like crazy, so I think of those as UFO's too. They have the pattern and fabrics all coordinated. They beg me to start on them! The journey starts with one step, right! This is the first step!
|
I'm in. I have at least four tops I'd like to finish this year and a log cabin in progress. I'm hoping this and the Moratorium will help me actually finish quilts and not just buy stuff for new projects.

Took this challenge privately two years ago when I knocked down the wall between two bedrooms to enlarge my sewing space. I was using a wheel chair and needed turning and moving room. Organized UFO's in clear boxes and filled a wooden wardrobe with them. Only a few did not fit. Here I am two years later, no longer in a wheel chair, but still no room to move around. Went to a workshop at Houston and took Lois Hallock's organizing class. Have completely redone my room, however, UFO pile has grown. On the positive, I did give away some and some reverted to stash as I had lost interest. However, I still cannot fit them all in the wardrobe. Made a stack that I want completed by summer. That is my starting point. I am in for the challenge.

I'm a bit slammed right now but I will be back with this group in a day or two. Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far for this year's UFO Challenge of the Month. We've got a big job ahead of us to meet or break last year's record, if that's what we'd like to do. I just posted the tally for 2016. Go and see for yourself. AMAZING!
http://www.quiltingboard.com/quiltin...h-t273926.html But honestly, it isn't about breaking last year's tally, it's about each of us getting some of those UFOs out of the shadows and turning them into real quilts...or table runners...or pillows...or wall hangings...or whatever. Pick something simple and just get started! |
Wow!! Great job to those who participated last year! I have to finish a quilt for my nephew first. It isn't a UFO - I started it before Thanksgiving and have been working on it since. He is due to arrive this month, so that is the priority. Then to my stash of UFOs.
|
I am in again this year. My primary goal is to complete 6 UFOs this year. My secondary goal is to not to start any new charity quilts without first finishing the charity UFOs that are sitting in the basket.
|
I really couldn't join last year as I've been taking accelerated classes to finish my Bachelor's degree, but I'm down to 2 classes and I'm hoping to finish some of my UFO's. Since I know me... I'm going to start with a smaller goal of 4, which is 4 more than I did last year! The QB and this thread are really inspirational and I'm sure it will keep me motivated! :)
|
I'm in. I went back to a mystery row quilt, by Pat Sloan, that was in America Patchwork and Quilting throughout 2016. I'd completed all of the steps, now I have them all pieced together and two borders attached. As soon as I make the backing it will be ready to layer and quilt. I kind of cheated by starting with the newest UFO, but any finish is a good finish, right? I have at least 8 more UFOs', I'll be happy to finish up half of them this year!
|
I'm in. I keep track of all of my quilts in progress on Pinterest. Of the 18 listed, 15 are what I would consider UFOs. Most need quilting and binding but a few got side-tracked while piecing. This will be fun and motivating to report successes.

I am back. Last year I ended up lurking only because of three falls that all impacted my ability to quilt and sew. Better year ahead. I did not make any new UFOS but I did not get any finished either. Here we go on a new year.
|
Count me in -- I have UFOs stashed everywhere! My method is if I find a UFO when looking for something else then it is the next project I do. I have finished one UFO this year -- I've been working on mock cathedral denim quilts and have had two partially pieced. Now one of those two is completely finished and the other is 1/2 way finished. I have the circles cut for 4 more of these quilts. I just brought in another bag of circles to be marked and sewn together. These quilts are a win-win. They are UFOs and stashbusters. Each quilt uses about 12 pairs of old jeans and about 2 yards of fabric from my stash.
|
Yippee, I am on the train again!!! Thought I might miss it, glad it stops for those of us running along side trying to get on. Yes, I have UFOs so will be riding it this year and trying hard not to create any new ones or any rabbit trails until my UFOs are done. Goal is 29 by April 15, then 60 by year end.
|
That's quite a lofty goal, quiltermomma!! I wish you the best of luck achieving it. You'll definitely keep us (competitive) slackers motivated!! :D

Okay...this is a small one, but if you've ever done little ones you know how much time they can take. These 5 4P's have been waiting for about 5 years to have a home in a quilt. I finished this last night...it does need a little pressing around the binding....and yes I will take my tree down later in the week...

I'm working on a wall hanging based on Ricky Tims Convergence method. It's talking to me that it wants embellishments so I don't think I am as close to being done as I thought.

Adorable mini girl.

I just found a free planner for our UFO's: http://www.aqsblog.com/creative-organizer-ufo-pages

I've joined the fabric moratorium. Actually started about 3 years ago. No wonder I haven't done any quilting. I have also declared a moratorium on beginning any more quilts until I have all of these (about 20) UFOs done. Wish me luck! It's hard to believe I used to do only one at a time and when finished move on to another; I didn't even know the meaning of UFO. LOL

I haven't been on the board for awhile, thought I would pop in and say hi! I'm busy working on UFO's! I have 6 quilts ready to be bound, 4 quilts ready to be quilted, 5 more that need backings made, and another 4 cut out. I'm anxious to do some more cutting! (My favorite thing!) But I'm working on quilting a few up first! Here's my new roll of batting to inspire me! :D

I am definitely going to be on this train this year! I have some that are way too old I need to make some decisions, get organized and declutter! A great way to do that is to have the supportive encouragement of this group? :)
|
Oksewglad, congratulations on your UFO finish and our first finish of the new year. Toot, Toot![ It's so pretty. :)

Welcome to all the new train riders and to last year's passengers who are going for another trip! How lovely to see new names and the veterans as well. What was that little ditty from when I was a child...you know, eons ago...sitting around a campfire at the Girl Scout camping trips? I think it was "make new friends but keep the old; one is silver and the other gold". Welcome to our Silver and Gold riders :)
Today is the 5th day of the year and we've got a weekend coming up. Does anyone have any plans to work on their UFOs this weekend? I do. I've got 30 9 1/2 inch scrappy blocks I'm going to set off kilter with black and then I HOPE to QAYG. Those blocks date back a couple of years but I've had to make a few more to get enough for a small quilt. It's the QAYG that will be the challenge as I've never tried it. Sewbizgirl made a tut on how she does it. Her directions were so clear I should be able to pull it off. But first, all the blocks must be set in the black. I work fairly slowly so it will take me a couple of weeks just to get the black added with all the other things going on around here. BUT, I've begun! How about you? |

However, I have decided that on the couple of yard-sale flimsies I have, instead of quilting them, I'm going to cut them up into patchwork teddy bears. That will allow me to quickly get two flimsies, and a bag of stuffing out of the way, and probably produce at least 4 UFO finishes. I may just work on those tonight and tomorrow when I get home from work. That will give me a very quick "jump-start" to my 2017 UFO/Moratorium plan this year! So, while I wait/watch for snow, I will be being productive - consuming my stash, finishing UFO's, finishing customer quilts (and making $$ doing that!!). Sounds like a plan to me - what do y'all think? :D |
OKSewGlad, you are the FIRST finish! You go, girl!
Happy to be on your heels! |
