Well I just got done sending my post (basically just copied last years with a minor change) to start the new UFO thread. I'm just waiting for the QB personal to start it tomorrow. Or tell me I need to edit it more. But anyway, the great news "I'm the new UFO person, (unsure the title name). Anyway we will be continuing this threat next year (basically tomorrow). So look at the QB's Challenge & Contest. I'm hoping you will all have a look and join in on this train. It will be the 2018 UFO Challenge of the Month thread.

You can continue to post here for this years finishes. Like Janice stated, she will be give a final total in a few more days.

Have a save and enjoyable New Years!!!!

Looking forward to a new thread starting! Thanks for taking the lead happylab! I ended the year with a WIP finish, and will start the year with a UFO finish Monday or Tuesday!

E.J. 01-01-2018 01:20 AM

Woohoo! Looking forward to being onboard again for next year. This thread is such a great motivator :)

Beautiful finishes Kristakz, I don't think I could ever count on making a pieced border to fit that accurately and the blue colours are a perfect match.
That is some very special birch wood fabric too, I've never seen fabric like it - beautiful.
Happy New Year all

Beautiful UFO finishes, Kristakz. Cardinals are my favorite birds so the second one really calls to me! Thank you for sharing the pix. Congratulations and Toot, Toot!

First one is a panel I picked up a couple of years ago. Finally got inspired and put borders on it at a retreat. Quilted and bound in time for Christmas. Second is from a set of fat quarters I bought a few years ago. Finally decided to do something with them - and now I have my January window display.

I see that neither of these photos have binding on them. Hopefully you'll take my word for the fact that they are 100% finished and in use.

Good morning and Happy New Year train riders!

Happylab's 2018 UFO Challenge post can be found here: https://www.quiltingboard.com/quilti...h-t293707.html Please be sure to check it out and welcome her as your new Engineer of this wonderful train ride.

I'll do a final post in a day or two in case any additional 2017 finishes are posted. I will see you over on the 2018 challenge thread. I still have many UFOs to complete so I hope to add a few finishes for next year, oops, this year! In the meantime, I'm hoping there might be another one or two that post in the next day so please check back one final time for the official 2017 Tally.

anne2016 01-01-2018 07:25 AM

Krista...I like those. The reindeer one is beautiful! I am bookmarking all panel quilts for inspiration. I have lots of panels which I plan to enlarge for quilts in 2018.

anne2016 01-01-2018 07:28 AM

E.J....congrats on the latest finishes.

edited toadd....Think that's the second time I congratulated you on thise finishes. LOL.

anne2016 01-01-2018 07:29 AM

Thanks E.J.

If I can promote a book (not mine) - "60 Pieced Quilt Borders" by Judy Laquidara does a fabulous job of explaining how to make pieced borders fit. Along with giving you 60 different ideas. She has a worksheet in there you can use for any quilt to figure out what size sashing strips you need to make your border fit.

oksewglad 01-01-2018 07:50 AM

Love your finishes, krista!

Belfrybat 01-01-2018 08:26 AM

Krista -- lovely finishes! And HappyLab, thanks for stepping up to lead this group.
Janice -- many thanks for being our able leader the past few years.

--"Block Exchange" groupings
--halfway completed projects
--completed quilt tops needing to be sandwiched, quilted, and bind

Thanks for hosting this and looking forward to the challenge.

Happy 2018 Guys. I just completed my list for 2018 and found only 9 completed for this year. Kinda sad but did have some significant reasons. My job for 2017 required some significant recruiting of outpatient facilities--163 for me and we had to work our days off for 2 1/2 months. Had to renew my 5yr infectious and communicable disease certification. My SIL with dementia challenges moving about a mile from us and preparing for my MIL to move the house next door to us next month. I am looking forward to retirement sometime in the next couple years.

So I guess I can celebrate finishing at least 9. Thanks guys for your progress with pictures. My last 4 pictures have are having uploading issues on my end.

Thanks again for organizing this thread and Happy New Year's.
Karen

Happy New Year everyone! I have binding to do so will have an early finish for 2018. With the Holidays and moving to the new house just didn't get it done. .
I did manage to get these done for your count Janice. Small table runner, another baby quilt that was a Boomerang block exchange, and a king quilt that was a block trade on the QB about 3 years ago and I used a falling block quilt that I made a couple of years ago for the back. That's all for 2017

Krista: wonderful beautiful quilts. The blue deer one really pops out to me. On your cardinals, the trees look 3-D. Great job.

Jeanine 01-01-2018 11:04 AM

jaba: great finishes. You sure have been busy! beautiful

Jeanine 01-01-2018 11:05 AM

Welcome Happy Lab. THanks so much for taking this thread for 2018 on. I am looking forward to joining your train. "see" you soon!

Jeanine 01-01-2018 11:07 AM

Janice - Thank you for your work this year. You were a great inspiration to get some UFOs done. Probably would not have done so without your support - and everyone elses support.

quilting cat 01-01-2018 11:15 AM

Talk about overdue... my major UFO to dig out and complete is a "wedding" gift about 10 years late. I have 3 of 4 seasons done, and hope to finish the spring quarter by the end of spring, and have it quilted and delivered by BIL's August birthday? Meanwhile, I have a top that needs its borders, but is going to LQG charity group. Since "give it away" counts, I have January's UFO taken care of!

That's "all" for 2017??? Oh, my gosh, you've done gazillion this year, Jaba. Congratulations and Toot, Toot for these 4 final UFOs for 2017. (You have to know I love the Boom quilt :) )

Congrats on those 4 finishes, jaba.

Rose_P 01-01-2018 06:08 PM

I love both of your quilts, Krista! I'm especially partial to cardinals. In 2005 we were moving into a house and the movers left the front door open as they went in and out. A beautiful male cardinal flew in and found his way to an upstair bedroom, where he was a little bit panicked, but when I opened a window and stood back, he found his way out easily. I thought that was pretty smart and also daring. He was just checking out some new territory, or maybe he had seen his reflection in the windows from outside and went in looking for that bird. I'm smiling because your quilt reminded me of that.

Rose_P 01-01-2018 06:13 PM

Jaba, your quilts are great! I love seeing all the variety. I'm amazed you got all that done running up to a move.

Janice McC 01-02-2018 06:06 AM

Good morning! I want to acknowledge everyone who contributed to December's UFO finishes. Thanks, congratulations and Toot, Toots go out to Letawellman, Kassaundra, Rryder, Oksewglad, Cherrybsixty, Belfrybat, QuilterMomma, MadQuilter, Happylab, Fraew, EJ, Kristakz and Jaba for their combined 40 UFO finishes for December 2017.

So, that brings us to a total for 2017 to an inspiring 314 UFO finishes! Toot, Toot and Woo Hoo!!!

Excellent Job everyone!

Thank you for the kind comments. It's been my complete pleasure to be your Engineer - or is it Conductor? - on this 2 year great train adventure. Thank you to everyone who participated in 2017! May 2018 be even more productive! Congratulations.

joe'smom 01-02-2018 06:13 AM

Belfrybat, I love the look of your snowball quilt.

Krista, those are stunning quilts. I'm in love with the cardinals.

Congratulations, jaba, on your 4 finishes!

Thank you, Janice, for being such a great leader these past 2 years. And thank you, happylab, for stepping up to lead us. I plan to join the new thread, and hopefully I can make some contributions in the coming year.

JuanitaBean 01-02-2018 12:53 PM

Thank you Janice for doing a GREAT Job encouraging us to get UFO done.

Thank you happylab for taking over so we can keep getting UFO done.

Ditto what JuanitaBean said. I am excited for the new year's plans.

Mariah 01-04-2018 12:08 PM

I haven't done this challenge so please "clue me in" with what and how to do it. I have been binding blocks for gifts, and just in general finishing UFO's.
So, how do I get started? Sorry I am s o dense on this.
Mariah

oksewglad 01-04-2018 12:55 PM

It's really simple...for 2018 go to this thread and make a comment. Then you will be subscribed to the thread and when anything new appears you will find it in the Subscriptions tab at the top of the page.

https://www.quiltingboard.com/quilti...h-t293707.html

How you choose to participate is totally up to you...some of us have lots of UFO's we feel the need to finish. You may or not wish to list them...personally I don't, it would scare the bejesus out of me! Then as you complete a finish post it to the above thread with or without a photo and happylab, our new fearless leader, will keep track of our finishes. The opening comment on the thread has more concrete suggestions...

And most of all, welcome to the group!

Janice McC 01-04-2018 12:58 PM

Mariah, this is last year's challenge thread. You can find the 2018 challenge here: https://www.quiltingboard.com/quilti...h-t293707.html

Happylab is the new engineer and she'll help you out. Enjoy!

Finished as far as I take them. I get a ready to quilt top and that is as far as I go. This was a UFO because I cut all the snowball corners wrong. So I have a ton of those left over. But I managed to fix some of them and get this to this point. It i s Sunrise by Lavendarlime quilts. Uses a layer cake and a charm pack. Super easy to do. This was my second time doing the pattern in Roses on the Vine. I added some borders on this one.

petthefabric 02-08-2018 08:45 PM

I'm finishing a UFO and was able to use 3/4 yr of stash for the binding.

retiredteacher09 02-09-2018 08:22 PM

Congratulations, Battle Axe, on your lovely finish. Way to go, petthefabric, on using 3/4 yard of stash!
