Boy, Martina, that quite a goal!! Even would be for me, and I have 6 or 7 that only need bindings!! LOL! Love seeing and hearing about everyone"s progress. The ice in the Midwest should allow for a lot of sewing this week-end as long as the power holds out.

Anyone make this pattern before? it is by Allison Quilt Design. I have been trying to finish for two years now. Any suggestions for ease in finishing? This is just a photo, I have not finished mine yet.

Belfrybat - Nice job. I am impressed. I'm partial to the blues one at this time.

MadQuilter - that is quite a goal. May that encourage me.

MadQuilter 01-13-2017 12:15 PM

Fortunately, most of my projects are in FLIMSY stage

oksewglad 01-13-2017 01:59 PM

Got the setting squares cut and started sewing the squares into strips...not caring what 9P is going where but paying attention where the all light 9P's are placed...then decided the Christmas tree needs to come down.

Lofty goals Leta and Martina...striking quilt QMomma...a design wall would be helpful...how about labeling blocks with their positions..

Janice McC 01-13-2017 03:53 PM

BB, both will be wonderful when finished. Thanks for sharing your progress pix.

I have another almost finished -- just have to bind it. Also am working on three WIPs, one of which is En Provence mystery. Phew!

I'll put 3 borders around it to make it a 65 - 70" square charity quilt.

I spent most of today cleaning house, as we anticipate some special guests tomorrow. While cleaning, I was stitching out the last of the embroidered animals I need to go to the "join the blocks" stage of a UFO. So, late this afternoon, after that was finished, I started looking for the instructions for the setting blocks.

And was reminded once again just exactly WHY I joined the Fabric Moratorium!

However, once I found the instructions, I will be able to start adding "more fabric used from the stash" countdown. It will be a twin size, and the setting blocks will use an additional 6 yds of primary colors as well as about another 5 yds for the backing. Plus this will get another UFO into the "completed" pile.

Customer quilt #2 did not get any attention today... but that's ok, since I haven't heard from the owner today either.

The last fabrics for the commission quilt came in the mail today as well, so I'll be planning that one out over the next several days.

I REALLY DO NOT NEED TO BUY ANY MORE FABRIC!!!!!!!
There! I feel better now.
:D

cherrybsixty 01-15-2017 05:33 AM

Leta, I really feel that when we have to clean and put things away for arrival of guest is what set off the fabric addiction and the UFO problems. Well, as a rule that's what gets me in trouble. When I am able to return to the project I've totally change my mind in what direction I want to complete it. Good thing you got other projects going that help keeps you diversified. I praise you on your progress. Enjoy your guest.

LaurMac 01-15-2017 07:01 AM

I have never signed up to complete UFOs because I don't think I can ever catch up! I write a newsletter for my quilt guild and am constantly getting inspired to try something to write about it. But I have to do something now, so I'm going to sign up for this, put a post-it note on my monitor to remind me and try to report back. Thanks for running this!

Grinch 01-15-2017 08:21 AM

Libster, that is beautiful! And I love that you got taken to lunch. Time is the most precious gift we can give or receive.

kristijoy 01-15-2017 08:45 AM

Howdy! Checking in! We had the crazy storm in California this week, knocked out power, closed the road into town because of landslides. Now the guys in my family are out skiing today, so I'm working on the UFO'S!

Here's the Status: Since January first I've actually finished binding 4 quilts! I need to take picture and then I'll show you all! :) I've quilted 12 quilts (ready to bind) and I have 6 more flimsy's to quilt! Yippy! Today I'm hoping o get one flimsy quilted and machine sew half the binding on 2 quilts (and add them to the 'finish up with hand-stitching' pile). I can tell my shelf is getting cleaning! YEAH!

Jeanine 01-15-2017 09:43 AM

Kristi: wow! You have really been busy this month. It boggles my brain. Don't we have the same 24 hours in a day? Do you sleep? I am so impressed.

cherrybsixty 01-15-2017 10:33 AM

So Kristi, these are the things you get done when the mud slid changes your direction. Sorry for your weather conditions but proud that you showed us all that you don't have to let that stop us. Looking forward to see pix. Happy Sewing

happylab 01-15-2017 12:31 PM

I found several small projects I started a few years back. I will try to start out small and work larger. These projects s/h not take too long. I'll post when I'm done.

MadQuilter 01-15-2017 12:40 PM

I finished all the blocks for a DP9 and am ready to square them up. Progress may be slow but any progress at this point is good.
Last night I planned out the next 3 UFOs - breaking them into the exact steps that need to be taken for completion. I...can...do...this....!

Janice McC 01-15-2017 01:10 PM

We all can do this! One step at a time. (I'm working on mine today.)

Kristijoy, are the ones you've bound UFOs? Not some you recently started? Gee, I hope they're UFOs so we can keep the finishes coming for the month. We're starting slowly this year.

So everyone, please do me a favor when you post finishes, please make it clear that they are UFO FINISHES and attach pix whenever possible. We also like to hear a little about your finishes as well. When did you start? What was your inspiration? Did you make the item for yourself? Is it for donation or charity? How did you quilt it? You know, a little background for color. Thanks!

Not an official finish as it's not quilted and bound, but I wanted to share a pic of the Bonnie Hunter Easy Street I finally finished putting borders on. It will be a charity quilt and is 60" square. At first I wasn't sure about the pieced border but I had so many patches left over I hated not to use them. I've decided I like it.

I'll repost pics of the flimsies I'm showing you when the are completely finished and will shout "UFO finished" from the housetops. I live in a small apartment and when I pull the mid-arm machine and frame away from the wall, it takes up too much space. So every so often I go on a marathon quilting frenzie for a couple of weeks and get several done. It's been a year since my last quilting spree, so I feel one coming on in the next couple of weeks....

Belfry Bat- very pretty, I'm looking forward to seeing the finish.

Kristijoy- that's an impressive amount of work!

I've just finished sandwiching a baby quilt, not a UFO, but once it's finished I can get back to my stack of UFOs, probably Tues. or Wed. The next UFO in the hopper is one that needs some handwork done which I have been putting off for years LOL! It's another art quilt, but I need to do some dimensional things with black velvet and then insert them via reverse appliqué before I can sandwich it and quilt it. I might manage to get it finished this month in between the collaborations I've got going with 2 other artists.....

I took a class from Doug Leko (Antler's Design) two and a half years ago when he visited Maine and I finally finished my Tailored Stars quilt. My first UFO for 2017...it will be mailed to my brother in California.

elly66 01-16-2017 06:14 AM

Belfrybat beautiful colors. Can't wait to see the finish.

jmoore that is a gorgeous finish. Your brother will be thrilled.

I'm busy with WIPs but I did find a few UFO potholders needing to be completed - lets hope I can at least get that done this month.:)

oksewglad 01-16-2017 07:48 AM

What a bunch of great finishes, both here and on the 2016 thread.....

WMUTeach 01-16-2017 08:00 AM

Wow, Patrice, what a pretty quilt. So exacting and precise! I see why it took time and fell into the UFO pile. Congrats on the finish!

WMUTeach 01-16-2017 08:01 AM

I finished one last evening. Well, almost....just need to add the label and snap a photo.

Belfrybat 01-16-2017 08:22 AM

JMoore -- love your manly quilt.
Patrice -- you've been a finishing machine -- great going. I really like the colour and composition of both of them.

sewlilly 01-16-2017 08:28 AM

Our quilt guild is having a challenge this year! The one to finish the most UFOs by the end of the year wins! We had to turn in our lists of UFOs I had 29. The most in the guild- so I guess I'm set up to win if I can get my keester in gear.

Since you write the newsletter for the quilt, why not do an article on UFO's, and perhaps even do a UFO Challenge for your guild? That would do "double duty" as it were - give both you AND your guild inspiration to conquer some UFO's! You might even give kudos to our group here for a cumulative of well over 400 finishes last year. THAT'S inspiration!!

Several of us are striving for one per month for this year, including myself. That was my goal for last year as well, and I DID reach that goal... although I started the year off with a bang, and ended with a fizzle, I did manage a total of 12 finishes. And if you are like most of us, quilting is not the only craft we do - ANY UFO (crochet, knitting, etc.) qualifies - our focus is on FINISHING a project that has languished - forgotten, unloved, hidden away - and getting that puppy completed, some how, some way.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Altairss 01-16-2017 08:46 AM

I have two UFO's pulled out to work on. boy on the one I so did not have an accurate 1/4 seam its just a bit bigger and the blocks are 6.1/4 not 6 1/2. Of course I figured that out after I cut the blocks to go between so need to trim those down now. I am so used to using my new foot that these old blocks stumped me a bit. Awh well the things we do when we were learning.

Go, Sewlilly, Go!! We've got your back and will be cheering you on!!

JMoore and Patrice, those are BEEE-UUU-TIFUL finishes!!

I love seeing everyone's finishes - it really gets me stirred up to finish some of my own.

I got the commission quilt pieced last night - very simple, sort of like having a panel and adding borders - so it is ready to load right after customer quilt#2. Since the commission will be a panto, it's going to "break in line" ahead of customer #3, because #3 is a CUSTOM QUILTING job, and probably would eat into my deadline of "before Valentine's Day" for the commission quilt.

Well, my source for the critter patterns seems to have forgotten about me. I guess I'll go to Wally-World and see what I can find there to create my "patchwork teddy's" from the yardsale quilts. That would give me a couple of UFO finishes for this month, if I can hurry up and complete them.

<sigh> I'm jealous of hubby's retirement.... I'm definitely very thankful for my job, but truly... I'd rather be quilting. :)

Sync 01-16-2017 10:48 AM

Sure hope you'll post when completed (well somewhere on Board). I just LOVE your work always inspiring.

Patrice those are lovely. I have a feeling I'll be bookmarking more pages for future quilts than getting UFOs done this year at the rate of all these wonderful finishes.

A snowman bookmark. Small but at least it is completed and out of the UFO pile.

Some great finishes. I've made a start on one of my UFO at my quilting drop in. My sewing room is such a mess I can't face going in to start working on anything. Plus my window is stuck in the open position and it is freezing in there.

JuanitaBean 01-16-2017 01:40 PM

Great Quilt everyone has done keep them coming know I need to get started on some of mine.
