Oh, wow, Krisb....that was close! Lol!! I have 2 things in my Craftsy cart that have been there for 2 weeks. One is a kit I have had my eye on forever...60% off right now....I really just want the pattern but that's not available without kit. I hate when they do that...

oksewglad 03-25-2018 07:45 PM

Kudos for asking the question...do I need it or not? With my recent quilting finishes and another baby quilt today as well as several bound potholders YTD total is a -36 yards of fabric..That yard of fabric bought early this year is the only fabric I've purchased so far...scary, but rewarding to know I've been getting rid of stash. In fact rearranged fabric on shelves and I have a couple of empty spots...no I will not buy new to fill those spots!

Conchalea 03-26-2018 05:56 AM

Way to go, OK! It’s hard, isn’t it, to refrain from filling an empty space on your fabric shelves? I admire your self-control.

Irishrose2 03-26-2018 07:43 AM

I need to go into the lion's den again (LQS). I need enough of a red metallic for binding. Wish me luck, no, wish me strength.

happylab 03-27-2018 06:07 AM

Petthefabric - your rail fence quilt looks very nice, I like the colors. I’ve tried that several times and end up with train off the tracks rail fence. Top would not lay straight. Who would think a 1/8” would make a difference? LOL. I have some blocks finished. I’ll see if one day I can finish for a charity quilt some day. Just not today.

Rob, your quilt looks nice. Great job!

Bluebell, I like your plan. Camper, sewing machine, fabric... great idea. LOL

congrates oksewglad on -36. Great incentive for the rest of us.

irishrose2 good luck in going to the lions den.

Since it’s close to the end of the month. I need to calculate my +’s and -‘s so far this year. So far my +’s will be way larger than my -‘s due to large buy in January. I got carried away with all of the new year’s sales. Plus a shop hop. Plus a buy for a Olaf reverse throw quilt. 2 projects not started. But fabric wash and ready to cut. Olaf just needs to be quilted and sent on her way. But a few UFO’s are on the list first.

Teen 03-27-2018 04:23 PM

I cut 2 more yards off the bolt for SBS project. I still have a lot still on the bolt for backing and I will likely use a bunch of little scraps for applique border. So glad I decided to use these 2 bolts in this project...I've gone through most of my teal and yellow stash. I have enough to finish this project then I'm going to make some throw pillows. If you suggestions on patterns,mI'm open to them. The SBS is a busy quilt so I was thinking of a not so busy pattern for throw pillows. Larger pieces...you know what I mean?

petthefabric 03-27-2018 05:47 PM

Yesterday I bought fabric. It was $5/yd, down from $12. It's a line I've liked for a long time. Figured what to make with it. So I got the different patterns to make my quilt. Felt a little guilty. On the other side, finished 2 more comfort quilt tops. So, net is -~85yds. It's not going to stash. It's going right to production.

Conchalea 03-27-2018 07:18 PM

This afternoon I finished the top of the quilt that caused me to jump off the wagon earlier this month. I used some stash & most of the fabric I bought for the quilt. I’ll use the largest piece for the back, so my net gain was probably close to zero, or even a little in the negative column. So that leap didn’t add to my overall stash of fabric, just the scraps, strips, & strings.
I’m very pleased with my top & can't wait until it’s sandwiched, quilted & bound. My younger daughter loves the eye-popping colors in it, so it may go to her. My older daughter only said, “well, it’s very bright, isn’t it?” I don’t think she appreciates the wild colors as much as her sister & I do!

I have a birthday coming up and people have been asking for ideas for presents. I started thinking about it and the list of what I don't need/want kept growing: fabric, thread, books, templates, rulers,..... One think on the list would be needles. Of course I talk big now. Just wait til I go to Maui for my birthday. I have to/get to combine the birthday and travel exemption. That might be a big fall.

retiredteacher09 03-28-2018 05:07 PM

Oksewglad and Petthefabric: Great negative yardage.

Martina: Enjoy your trip!

Teen 03-28-2018 06:09 PM

Have a great trip, Martina... You must take advantage of the lusciousness of Maui fabrics. Your birthday gift request could be prepaid Visa cards for trip souvenirs (Not) and LQS goodies (Duh!) ....

Teen 03-29-2018 08:12 PM

Well, do you remember me saying early in the year that I Would be only buying the fabric for my Baltimore Album quilt project and that, so far, I had only found and bought 1 of 5 fabrics? I have been searching and found the "red" fabric at MSQC but it was no longer available. I put it on my wish list anyway. They sent me an email yesterday that it was in stock again but still said "unavailable" on website when I went to purchase. So, I fired off an email and they replied that it was an error and that is was still not available. I got so excited...then bummed! Anywhooo..they felt bad for causing my excitement and immediate deflation and gave me $5.00 quilter's cash...which was way cool of them...but I'd rather have the fabric available. Dang! It's not like I can start this now anyway but still...sad...

squinting 04-02-2018 04:06 AM

Can I join? I haven't bought anything since early 2017, and hope to continue the streak for as long as possible. I built up a good-sized stash a few year back and have been working my way though it. I might need to get some backing once I finish a few things, though!

I joined late, so come aboard & join us!
Yesterday I started cutting & piecing blocks for a Garden Lattice quilt. I first saw the quilt on this board & it piqued my interest. I had some FQ bundles with a few pieces that I couldn’t imagine being useful. Then someone posted a statement that even ugly fabrics can be useful if cut small enough. I took that to heart & found that 1 FQ will make 20 4.5” squares & the “in your face” look of that fabric has been muted. I’m using the squares as my centers & some other pieces as the color borders. Eight blocks are fully cut out & 6 of those are pieced & pressed. Every bit of this quilt, except perhaps the back, will be from stash. I also made 2 mug rugs from stash this weekend. This sewing frenzy helped dull the pain of my lovely Harley going into the shop for repairs. I can’t ride in our gorgeous spring weather, so I’m sewing.

happylab 04-02-2018 06:46 AM

Teen, I'm sorry to hear you did get your red fabric yet. Hopefully MSQC will have the material in soon.

Rob, Congrats on your new quilting machine, I'm glad you are having so much fun completing your projects. As they say, Quilt on!

Welcome aboard Squinting!

Conchalea, Congrates on your WIP using up 2.5" squares from you stash. We like pics of WIP and finished projects.

Today I may buy backing fabric. I found a piece from MSQC yesterday. If the sale is still on I will buy the backing to go with a blue and white winter quilt. That should not count against me. But the 5 yards of mystery throw quilt I bought last week should. Ops. I so love mysteries quilting. Happy quilting everyone.

retiredteacher09 04-02-2018 02:54 PM

My first quarter of the year tally is minus 34 yards! Wahoo!

I did buy 11 yards for sashing and backing for my BOM at my LQS. A little over a yard of the fabric was for 2 infinity scarves. I will 'add' the leftover fabric once I have completed the 2 projects. Hopefully, it won't be much.

oksewglad 04-02-2018 04:49 PM

Wahoo! is right retired t....way to go...feels good doesn't it?

Teen 04-02-2018 05:45 PM

Squinting.....welcome. You are doing well already since you haven't purchased since early 2017. Awesome job!

Conchalea....great use of stash....want to see what you are doing in terms of the lattice pattern. I like those types of patterns. Sorry about the Harley. I'll try not to be too meanie towards you by letting you know I was out and about on my Harley yesterday for Easter. Drove it to sunrise service and woke the church neighborhood...lol!! Rise and shine! Lots of good weather ahead so sit tight. Harley's are either driven, detailed, or in the shop.

Retired!!!! Wow...that a lot of yardage, girl! Good going..

Teen 04-02-2018 05:47 PM

I have $15 of quilter's cash at MSQC on account. I wish they would stop enticing me by reminding me of this weekly via emails. Jus saying..

Congrats to all who stayed strong in March. I did not have too bad a March on my moratorium...I did have a small slip and bought 2-1/2 yards in quarter yard cuts from the sale bin at hobby lobby, but I've already started using them in my 365 quilt.

As for what I used, for this twin sized quilt top, I bought six small cuts of patriotic fabrics, the rest were all stash fabrics:

It's my son's favorite, It had a very damaged top, but the backing was still in decent shape. He really loved the drape and the quilting, and asked if I could salvage it. I made the new top and tied it to preserve the existing quilting design, and put on a new binding. Happily, he was thrilled!

I also used about 2-1/2 yards so far from my stash for my mother's Fractured Crystals quilt. I still need to attach the borders, and make a matching valance for her window, and maybe some pillow cases, so I'll be using up a few more yards in the next couple of weeks.

oksewglad 04-03-2018 01:28 PM

Well done, JJB

Teen 04-03-2018 02:29 PM

Wonderful save, JJ! Looks awesome....I can see why your son likes it so much.

Irishrose2 04-03-2018 04:34 PM

A very nice quilt, JJ. That pattern is on my bucket list.

retiredteacher09 04-03-2018 07:09 PM

JJBlaine: Very nice save and may your son get many more years of use from it.

Teen, on March 24 I went with my riding group on a long ride in search of TX wildflowers through central Texas. I put 320 miles on my bike & the front fork seals started leaking about 70 miles from home. I got home okay but was afraid to ride it to the shop so I had it towed there. Let's see if my bluebonnet (state flower of Texas) picture will load.

I posted a picture of my obsession quilt, Final Frontier, on the picture page. It used some stash-the black, teal, purple, & gold in the blocks. A small panel of the patterned teal is on the back, because the new yardage wasn't quite large enough. I also have a picture of one of the mug rugs I made with stash. It used maybe 1/2 of a FQ in all.
I used this rug to practice ruler quilting.

Conchalea 04-04-2018 08:21 AM

JJB, I really like your quilt! What is the name of that 3D pattern?

Conchalea.........awesome ride!! Hopefully, you'll be back on the road in no time. I broke down on the Laughlin run 3 years ago but thank goodness I was in Laughlin and a friend towed his bike to the event. So, we towed mine and he road his home. Phew! In the shop it went.... Harley rides aren't complete unless you break down. Lol!

Really pretty mug rug...great job on ruler work. Nice and even. Keep practicing...you'll get there.

I made this mug rug from a reject block on my current project. It did not come out to 6 1/2 so I made another one....but this block is so cool looking ( 3/4" pieces) I decided to make it as a gift for someone for all their help on SBS. Shhhhhhhh!

Thanks so much. It was fun and so fast to piece...I think it only took me about four hours to stitch together!

It's a shadowbox quilt. I saw similar ones on Pinterest, and figured out the measurements based on the size of the quilt I was attaching it to, (5"x15" blocks, 1-1/2" wide shadows, and 2" sashings). Obviously my math needs a little to be desired, because the top and bottom borders are significantly narrower than the sides, lol.

One difference in mine is that in the top right and bottom left corners of each focus block, I added a HST of the sashing fabric so that the "shadows" actually connect with the corners of the blocks. Most of the ones on Pinterest have a square of the background fabric in those corners instead, and the blocks look like they are floating.

Irishrose2 04-04-2018 04:19 PM

QuiltnNan, The HSTs add so much dimension. I'm pleased you posted that information.

PaperPrincess 04-05-2018 05:23 AM

Everyone's doing so well! I discovered that if you actually are sewing and using your stash you don't have time to shop! I worked on a bunch of stuff to take to my retreat last month:
https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...s-t295917.html

The retreat is in 2 weeks and the friend who talked me in to it works in a group that does charity quilting. I'm planning on bringing at least 25 yards to donate. Probably won't even make a dent.
On the downside, I got 2 gift cards to fabric shops for my birthday. I'll have to hang on to them until I really need something.

redstilettos 04-05-2018 07:56 AM

Conchalea, is that a Heritage Softail? I used to have one of those until my garage burned down a month ago. I just got an Electric Glide. With snow still on the ground, I won't be riding any time soon, but yours makes me want to get out there. Hope they can fix your baby :) Until then....quilt, quilt, quilt!

Yes, she’s an ‘08 & I got her in July ‘09. I’ve put 60K+ miles on her. Good news-the shop called today & she’s ready! I’ll go pick her up tomorrow. A bolt in the front forks had broken causing the fork fluid to spew all over me. Now I can be sure of going on my group’s next big ride, a week long ride called Waltz Across Texas.

elly66 04-05-2018 02:49 PM

Wonderful blocks and quilts everyone. Love looking at what everybody is working on.

Paperprincess those are fabulous - your work is always such a treat to look at.

Realize its been awhile since I posted (meaning no fabric purchases yeah me).

Hope you have a great trip Martina - sounds wonderful as I sit staring at snow on the ground!

I'm busy trying to find backing from me stash for two UFOs. I'm determined to find it from stash even if the quilts need to be double sided to fit together right in my own mind.

SillySusan 04-05-2018 05:46 PM

Oh no!! I joined the "pledge" when I first joined up with y'all... not to buy any more fabric for the stash and I was faithful until yesterday. But it was an accident... really! I thought I was buying a fitted full sheet for my bed at the local thrift shop. It was labeled as a full sheet by one of their volunteers, but it turned out to be a queen sized one. Nice fabric. I decided to keep it for a future quilt... In the stash it goes. Oh, woe is me. I tried so hard! :(

Teen 04-05-2018 06:10 PM

SillySusan is silly, indeed!!

Irishrose2 04-05-2018 06:45 PM

Ripping out the quilting on my fan quilt - I didn't like the batting or my choice of thread. To make the day not a total bust, I cut out a Spicy Spiral table runner requested by my new DIL - every piece from stash. Not a lot of fabric used, but the fact that I had eight coordinates in her color choices either means I'm lucky or have too much fabric. Maybe both?

retiredteacher09 04-05-2018 07:29 PM

redstilettos: I'm sorry to hear your garage burned and you lost your motorcycle. :(
