Darn it again! I decided to use the 2.5" candies I got a few years ago from the Birthday Swap to make a Project Linus quilt for older kids. Of course, I ran to Hobby Lobby to get something to coordinate all them together and finish the quilt. Well......I just didn't think 1 yard was enough of this really cool fabric, then I found a coordinating fabric in the clearance bin...and then I had to use my 40% off on some Northcott fabric. Needless to say, $71.00 later.........Oh well, I will use the fabric and it was all purchased with the intention of using up other fabric. I think I'm in an endless circle.......Well......I'm staying out of stores for a little bit!

Irishrose2 07-22-2018 10:11 AM

Nora, When HH has Northcutt at $9.99 and 40% off, it's hard to resist. I don't like the fraying, but love the Stonehenge line. I recently bought 1 yard of the lime, but it's already in a quilt, so I'm good.

That’s gorgeous ckcowl! That green was just the right touch with those beautiful purples. Great use of stash!

Ckcowl, I really like your purple quilt! Purple is my favorite color & you’ve used all the shades very well.

pet...what pattern are you using for your quilt with walkways and roofs?

The pattern is called "Housewarming" from the book Moda All-Stars, Scraps Made Simple from That Patchwork Place, various authors.
Got 1/2 of the roofs paper pieced today and starting on cutting the other 1/2.

That looks like a great scrap buster...a fun looking quilt...thanks for sharing it with me!

Connecting threads has their wide backing on sale. my quilty friend was placing an order. She had already fulfilled the free postage purchase amount and wanted to know if I wanted to add something to her order. I looked and thought, but then said no. Small victory for me!

Good for you!! I know that must have been very tempting. :)

Irishrose2 07-27-2018 11:33 AM

I went to Connecting Threads after that was posted. There is a pretty new rose fabric, but I didn't buy anything. Going through my SIL's stash is overwhelming! I don't need to bring anything else in here.

Teen 07-28-2018 09:30 AM

Good for you guys! I saw the sale, too, but deleted the email.

I bought a bolt of unbleached muslin, 15 yds. I am going to make quilt bags to store my quilts for moving and storage. They will likely be in storage for 4-6 mos so I took the advice of others and the web to protect them the best I can. I bought large canvas storage totes to place them in. Hopefully, this will do it. So, even with this purchase, it will whacked into right away...

I'm almost finished with a flimsy made from stash. I sewed 8 1.5" wide strips in about 72" lengths. Then I cut a 74" piece of Kona white fabric into 9 strips varying in width from 2.5 to 7.5". Next sewed the strips together, starting with a white strip and alternating a pieced strip. Have two more passes of length to make, but got tired and called it a night...will get pics and share.

This sounds so interesting! Looking forward to the photos!

Well, I have to fess up. I had a major (for me) fall off the wagon on the last day of July. My LQS had sent me a $10 coupon for any purchase during the month of July as a Birthday present and even though I'd decided not to use it, I couldn't resist at the last minute. Since my stash was running low on neutrals and lights I decided that I'd just make a quick visit to the LQS and use my $10 that way. Well, after hitting the remnant bins where I got a bunch of lights, and deciding to use my birthday exemption on a set of 8 FQ (a "just because" purchase and hence the need to use my Birthday exemption there) and purchasing some new reading glasses and some Bonash fusing powder, I left the shop a little over $100 lighter than I'd entered...oops.

Rob

SillySusan 08-04-2018 10:35 AM

Rob, good thing you had the birthday exemption or you would be in real trouble!!! As it is, you are safe. :)

Blue Bell 08-04-2018 11:14 AM

Rob, It was your birthday month and why wouldn't you use the $10 coupon!

petthefabric 08-04-2018 03:43 PM

Way to go Rob. We all need a "just for fun" and "replenish the basics" moment.

PaperPrincess 08-04-2018 04:42 PM

Sounds like you had fun, Rob. Saw your art quilts on the Pictures forum. Fabulous!!!

rryder 08-09-2018 06:23 PM

Thanks ya’ll. I had to mke another fabric purchase today.. i finished taking apart, rearranging and putting back together a quilt Top that has been a UFO for at least 3 years. when I went to sandwich it I realized I didn’t have anything suitable for a backing, unless I pieced together some fabric that I’ve been saving for another UFO. Since this ome has been such a pain over the years, I decided to make my like easy and buy a wide backing fabric that would work. Ended up buying 3 yards og 108” wide backing in black brushed with charcoal - hopefully that’s the last fabric purchase til the end of the year...

Rob

SillySusan 08-10-2018 04:00 AM

Getting a 3-yr old UFO finished is a good reason to make that purchase. I forgive you, but I don't know about the other folks here. :)

I have to brag a bit... I'm still holding out... I haven't bought any fabric since last December, except that dumb mislabeled sheet from the thrift shop back in January!! And, I made dozens of baby quilts and crib sheets all from stash!! :)

I decided to stop trying to organize all these mixed up bins, boxes, stacks, etc. and instead just quilt and sew as fast as possible! Wish me luck, y'all!

A stash buster project:D

Sounds like several individuals had fun going on trips and had fun this summer.

I went on a bus shop hop to Nebraska and visited the Quilt Museum in Lincoln Nebraska last weekend. We visited 5 LQS along the way. So needless to say I bought some fabric. I bought blue and off white fabric for a 9-patch king size quilt I plan to make this month. I bought matching material for a pink twin quilt for my sister. I bought winter f-quarters and matching white background for swapping white blocks. And 3 Row block Kits. The other 2 LQS did not participate this year. Most of my purchases were to finish up other projects. It was relaxing and fun.

oksewglad 08-11-2018 05:22 AM

Oh...I want to go to the QM in Lincoln as well! Glad you had a great trip!

retiredteacher09 08-11-2018 06:34 PM

Oksewglad: I love how your sister used your tiny quilt. Very creative.

oksewglad 08-11-2018 08:22 PM

Thanks Connie...just finished LA with a pantograph the quilt with 1" patchwork strips with white. Don't let anyone fool you...pantos are not easy peasy! Following a circular spiral on a sheet of white paper is not easy! But practice, practice...got photos tonight...will share later. FYI all fabrics from stash.

SillySusan 08-12-2018 04:39 AM

Uh oh, Happylab. Are you using your travel exemption?

Wow! Congratulations!!! And best of luck with the fast sewing and quilting- sounds like a lot more fun than organizing:thumbup:

I let a quilt leave my house without a picture. In my SIL's things was an unfinished baby quilt. Hand painted Pooh pictures with sashing and cornerstones finished at 1" - not my size work. Thank goodness, she had the layered sashings and cornerstones done, but not together. I finished it, added a border from my stash, quilted it and delivered to my brother yesterday at a family reunion. He remembers painting the pictures with his wife and figured by the dates it was for a granddaughter who just entered the Air Force. The blocks were dated 1998. He's on his way to California and will deliver it in Arizona on his way. What a keepsake that young lady will have! Fittingly, the fabrics were red, white and blue prints.
So a whole quilt out of my newly acquired stash and little out of my old stash. A win on two counts.

petthefabric 08-12-2018 02:29 PM

WELL! Last week I was on vacation, AND planned for my vacation exemption! There's a store in Minden, Nevada that's totally different from anything around here & MY KIND OF FABRIC! I spent $304 and no tax!

It was a quilting retreat so I finished 1 quilt and 4 quilt tops and 1 quilt back, ~ 25 yds fabric out of my stash. Also, my table mates were fantastic. And met other people to request for next years tables. Super retreat. If anyone's interested it's the artist retreats at Zephyr Point Presbyterian Camp at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. There's 3/yr and still 1 this year in September. Price includes housing and food. I'm having trouble getting pix from camera to computer, so I'll post soon.

Here's the quilt I mentioned earlier...more information in this thread.

https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...s-t298898.html

I sewed 1 1/2" strips in a long strip to equal +72"...made 8 of them. Then folded a 2 yard length of white fabric in half selvage to selvage and cut the selvages off. Then made 9 cuts parallel to the selvage in varying widths starting at 2 1/2". Then sewed the pieced strips to the white to create the quilt. All fabric was from my stash, as was the backing pieces. Will use a bright yellow that's in the pieced backing for the binding.

OK: Love, love, love your quilt! I have a similar one in my photos of quilts i'd like to make. Thanks for the instructions. Now I don't have to figure it out myself.
Been trying to talk myself out of a purchase. On my TO DO list is a feathered star. I love star quilts and stumbled across Eleanore Burns' "All Star Quilts" videos. It's a series for a feathered star medallion quilt surrounded by... stars! Bought the book.
I was trying to pull fabrics from my stash, but I need 2-3 yards of some of the colors. My stash is varied, but most are smaller lengths (see I knew I should have bought more!).
I keep drooling over CT's Heirloom Bouquet line
https://www.connectingthreads.com/fa...-bouquet/c/397
It's the exact color way I was trying to gather. I keep putting the yardage in my shopping basket, then taking it out. I've done this twice. Although it would be purchased for a specific project, with the stuff I have going I wouldn't be able to start until after the holidays and I'm afraid that something else will grab my attention then and it will just be added to my stash. Really on the fence with this one. My anniversary is fast approaching. Isn't the gift for 47 years fabric?

elly66 08-15-2018 06:53 AM

Wonderful quilt oksewglad. Definitely one to put on bucket list. Thanks for sharing it with us.

oksewglad 08-15-2018 07:01 AM

Thanks folks...this quilt measures about 49 x 72. If one would use 2 1/2 yards of white (or any other fabric) and make the strips from wider fabrics-say 3 1/2" cuts-your quilt would then measure about 65 x 90...a good size for a college dorm room. More of this type is in the future here for me.

Teen 08-15-2018 03:40 PM

OK?..that is an awesome quilt. Thank you for the instructions. I just love that. I have bunch of strips of misc sizes of white that I could so use in this pattern..

looks like everyone is ne is making good use of their travel exemptions. Way to go.. I have not bought any fabric in 2 months, I think. I finished the Green Tea quilt and used a bolt of fanric in stash for backing. Had plenty of striped fabric for binding. Now I'm working on QOV and I have everything in stash for that, including backing. I went to Joann's today and bought a new cutting mat and rotary cutter. I was way overdue for both and cutting QOV was a struggle so it was time. Did not look a thing single bolt of fabric..very proud of myself.

SillySusan 08-15-2018 04:47 PM

Oksewglad, your quilt is beautiful! I just may make a baby quilt from your great idea!

Princess, I think 47 years deserves at least 3 exemptions!!! Go for it!! :)

retiredteacher09 08-15-2018 05:03 PM

Oksewglad: Thumbs up on another pretty quilt top!

I bought 1 1/2 yards of duck cloth last week to recover my wood board that I use for my ironing board. I also bought that amount of Insulbright to go under it.

The best part is I used a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby and I used my gift card which was a thank you for making the neighbor girl's wedding garter and moving the snaps and hook/eye on the back of her dress. Plus, I was invited to her super small wedding(around 40) because of my kindness. Feeling blessed!

I had not been to Hobby Lobby in a few years so I enjoyed browsing. I still have enough to browse and buy several more things.

Irishrose2 08-15-2018 06:39 PM

OK, love the quilt. It is perfect for Summer.
Princess, I saw that fabric line and fell for it, too, but didn't purchase any. As long as you have a use, I say go for it.

As soon as I heard my first grandbaby was on the way, without even knowing the gender,I got to stitching (both sewing and crocheting).

The green and yellow flannels in the quilt are from my stash, and the embroidered blocks were done onto a flannel sheet I picked up at the thrift store for $3. I did buy the pooh fabric for the backing and the diaper bag (which is also quilted). The red trim and the belting on the diaper bag, as well as the lining are from stash.

Not quilting, but also from stash were several receiving blankets that I made either extra large, or double layered, 5 dozen re-usable baby wipes, 6 washcloths with flannel on one side and terrycloth on the other, and another 4 burp cloths. I either embroidered or crocheted the edging to everything except the wipes.

Not quilty, but seen in the photo are some of the baby booties and hats I crocheted in all the rainbow colors, about half of which were done with stash yarn leftover from other projects.

I think maybe I might be a little excited about the new addition, lol!

Paperprincess- 47 years definitely merits a special fabric exemption... congratulations!

I love the stash quilt Oksewglad!

Congratulations on the new grandbaby Jjblaine! Looks like you’ll be all set when (s)he gets here:)

you know that 3year old UFO I had to buy backing fabric for? Well, it struck again. Massdrop is having a pretty good drop on a batting sampler with three different kinds of batting including two kinds that I’ve been wanting to try and another kind that I use a lot of so I bit the bullet and joined the drop! Yay, new batting to experiment with!!! It won’t be here til Mid Sept but that’s all right since I really need to get the #%/*,,!!!#$$ UFO finished..I’m going to do some fancy quilting on the UFO so need a double batting layer, cotton against the backing and wool over the cotton. I figured with spray basting I could get it sandwiched in the afternoon, and have an hour or so this evening to work on getting the hanging sleeve for my Virginia Beach quilt redone so I could package it up and ship it out tomorrow. The basting spray needs time to dry so this seemed like an optimal use of my time.

Got the cotton batting out and realized I was going to have to piece it since I didn’t have a large enough piece. So slight delay while getting it securely pieced (like an hour or so). Got it pieced and spray basted to the back. Then pulled out my wool batting- it was in three pieces... ok, no problem to piece wool batting...except not enough...the wool batting I like isn’t available in town, so another on-line batting purchase... it won’t be here til Saturday late...and the backing and first layer of batting for the #$**&#**$$###!!!!!##@@## UFO are taking up the only table that’s large enough for me to lay out the show quilt while changing out the hanging sleeve...

Fortunately I bought enough backing fabric to be able to use the leftover to bind this beast.... I just hope that The spray baste holds the cotton and backing secure since I have to fold it up to make room for the other quilt...sheesh

Rob
