I so fell off the wagon this last month: I went to a quilters garage sell 2 weeks ago. I spent about $75.00. I found 2 panels to make 2 throw quilts. Lots of 4" squares to make at least 3 throws. 20 s f-q's for $1.00 each, a jelly roll, a large selection of fake flowers for $4.00 and a few other fabric selection. Then the same week I went to my LQS and supported them and bought fabric to match a soon to be king size quilt (8 pieces of fabric) all at 25% off. So I think I'm done buying until my birthday exemption (which I plan to go crazy using). I like to buy row by row kits from the mail after the end of the season. Which is legal.
In 2 weeks, I will be going on a retreat close by and hopefully finishing several quilt tops and starting a new project. I'm so excited. 12-18 hours of sewing, sewing and more sewing and meeting new people. It's out in the boondocks and 15 minutes to closest LQS. No animals, hubby, house cleaning, cooking, etc to distract me. Just sewing, sewing and more sewing. So I should be able to finish a few projects. Happy sewing and quilting everyone. |
My, my, Happylab, I think you already used that upcoming birthday exemption. You really fell off the moratorium wagon big time! Maybe the retreat exemption can be saved, though, if you are really careful!! :)
|
Um...really fake flowers...I think you can take that one off the fabric list!:D it sounds like you have plans for all this so why worry!
|
I didn't use my birthday exemption or any other this year, but I'm feeling a strong attraction to a group of fabrics by Moda. I've sat on it several weeks, but the pull remains strong. If I purchase it, I will use it soon. I have an impinged tendon in my shoulder, so I'm not doing large things now, which gives me time to cut and sew small pieces. Quilting the king size quilt has to wait.
|
I pulled out a strip quilt I started over 11 years ago. Had 2 blocks to finish. Have setting triangles cut and now cutting strips and borders. Even have the backing for this. I might be able to find binding in stash, too. Have one strip set sewn...there are four...just to see what it looks like!
|
You all are doing so good with using your stashes.... Before my trip, I did a quick inventory of fabric because I knew I would be using a travel exemption.....I only needed gray for my next quilt and that was all the fabric I bought when I went to the shop. I did buy 2 patterns, tho.... But all was good and I'm proud of myself despite my hubbie pointing out all the polka dots again. Lol...
Battle Axe..... Keeping good thoughts for you and your health concern. |
Good for you, Teen! Restrained use of your travel exemption!! Congrats!
|
Been feeling guilty about the travel exemption I used, didn't need to get that much. So, please forgive me & help me back up on the wagon.
This is about a victory. Went to a class sponsored by guild and used ~25 y/o 30's prints. It was loads of fun. When it's finished, may have enough fabric to do another. Retreat coming in 2 weeks so can finish these. |
Pet, No need to feel guilty. Just climb back aboard the wagon and donate your next exemption to someone who is desperate to buy something to finish a project. Or, maybe you can do some of those push-ups. :)
|
Thanks SillySusan
|
Guess I'll have to do some push ups too... that sale and coupon that Connecting threads had last week was just too tempting. I ended up buying 6 yards of fabric...oops...it's not here yet, but as I recall I tried to stick to colors that I'd used up out of my stash... On the bright side, My stash is noticeably smaller than it was when I joined this thread a couple years ago :)
Rob |
I'm still looking at those 17 one third yd pieces - 6 1/3 yards. I don't do push ups. How many planks? for how long?
|
You'all need to drop and give us 10 push-ups..... Irishrose2....standing on your head for 2 minutes should suffice...:D
|
Well, then, my choice is not buy the fabric or buy it and beg forgiveness. Planks, down dogs, warriors, I can do, but not standing on my head. I have absolutely no desire to try.

For good I finished my Halloween ufo twister. Queen size. I had to add 24” of border to take from a throw to queen size. I used my stash for this and only bought backing and black batting to finish it. I posted pic under UFO section.
The not so good news, I went to my retreat and bought backing fabric for my 9-patch king size quilt, and joined 2 more BOM. Then I ordered 4.5 yards of fabric to finish my Nebraska quilt top which I started last week. I really had fun on that retreat. I stayed up all night on one night and until 0230 the other night. Such great fun. |
Scores, fabric bought tons, happiness knows no such limits, therefore you are ahead of the game.
|
By the way, completed UFO gives a fabric exemption.
|
There should have been some kind of an exemption applied:
1. I just got out of the hospital. 2. The Grandfather clock needed winding. 3. There are more than three light bulbs burned out. Then there is no standing on head. |

I have two bulbs out in my dressing room. I bet I could find a third. Etsy order?? Finished quilt - did that, too.
|
You know when fabric gets used, it must be replaced...you know the one "out", one "in" idea of buying...or is it the other way around....

I have to admit a fall off the wagon-even though it happened last week. I think, in light of some exemptions I've seen here, I could claim one. On Sept. 4 driver turned left in front of me & I hit the car. My car is totaled & I've been borrowing cars from family & friends to go to the after-school programs which started last week. So last Wednesday, I bought some Halloween fabric and some fall color to make placemats. One side will be Halloween & the other will be good for Thanksgiving. But I got the Halloween fabric for free since I had a $20 gift card to JoAnn's. Good coupons also made a dent, so I got 3 yards of fabric & 4 spools of thread for $15.00. Not bad, and much-needed therapy after my wreck. My wrists suffered 2nd degree burns from the airbag. They've given me a lot of pain and are still sensitive from the huge blisters peeling.

Oh my goodness, Conchalea..... How awful!! So glad you walked away from that with only one injury. When I first started reading it I feared you were on your Harley. Sucks big time about your vehicle, tho. Well deserved shopping spree and an awesome buy. Rest well and don't push yourself too hard. Hugs!!!
|
Conchalea: So sorry to hear about your accident. I didn’t know airbags could do that much damage to a body.
|
Conchalea, sure you deserve an exemption! That must have been scary! Harrah for airbags! I heard that you can have broken fingers also when they explode, but they do save from serious injury.
The newest suggestion is always have your hands at the bottom of the steering wheel with your palms down to protect yourself from those airbags. It's another thing to remember! Our poor old heads... It's tough stuffing more stuff in them! |
The airbag powder burned my lungs in an accident. One lung collapsed - airbag or impact? Broken ribs. Airbag or impact? Late 2009 and I still dislike that corner. I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt.
|
Sorry to hear about your accident, Conchalea. I hope you feel better soon :(.
Rob |
Battleax, glad to hear you are out of the hospital and getting quilting therapy. It’s very important you continue with your quilting therapy. Even years after the medical event. Seriously I’m glad you are doing better.
conchalea, I’m glad You are recovering well from your accident. Quilting hugs being sent to both of you for a fast recovery. |
I fell off the wagon fabric wise. Since I have a birthday exemption (today) (72) I bit on Missouri Star deal of the day. Lovely layer cake of Debbie Beaves purple, green, beige. It's just fabulous.
Get well soon, Conchelea. Had a HIDA scan yesterday. A nuclear test on the gall bladder. So glad they didn't rip out my gall bladder when I was in there before. My gall bladder is working normally, as far as I can read that screen. The technician would not or could not tell me a thing. Have to wait and see the Dr. on the 25th. I don't know if you've ever had one, but the first picture is your liver filled with nuclear stuff and it just sits there and twinkles. Then the bile begins to collect in the gall bladder, big white ball on the screen. Then the bile begins it's journey to the small intestines. Mine performed right on cue. My problem is the infected sinus that is making oceans of mucus drain into my stomach and I get the dry heaves every day and every night. This is NOT fun. So now I'm going to start on some essential oils: Oil of Oregano. I'd love comments. |
Conchalea and Battleaxe I hope you get better soon. Doesn't sound like fun at all.
I have been busy trying to get my quilt room in some semblance of order. It's coming along but a little slow as I work in there then on to other parts of the house that's needing order as well. Have sewing machines set up so I'm hoping soon I can do some sewing. Haven't all summer and I'm longing to do so pretty badly. Afraid if I start I'll never want to stop to finish tidying up the place from moving. :) |
Happy Birthday, Battle Axe!! Good to hear all may be OK. Hopefully, they'll have some symptoms
relief suggestions for you. I don't have a clue so I can't offer anything in terms of issues directly related. Relating to essential oil stuff, I've heard good things. Myself, I drink a slushy every morning full of nutrients since I'm not really a good eater. I can go all day and forget to eat.. |
Elly66.... I am fast approaching having to pack up my sewing stuff for moving. It's the last of the house to pack up. It's all organized and ready for packing...I'm just not ready yet... As soon as the house sells, off we go...not sure when these will be unpacked again. Not looking forward to that...so I SO get where you are at....
|
BattleAxe, have you tried Breathe essential oil blend? That stuff will clear your sinuses while the oregano helps with the infection. I'm sure I don't have to say to be sure your oils are a brand that tests for purity.
|
Oh sometimes it's hard to adapt and adjust!
I'm making progress on my scrapping. Going through some pastels now and have enough pieces cut of a set to make the "Simplish" pattern. I need yardage for sashes and binding. http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/SHOP...ern-56-5-by-70 |
Happy Birthday, BattleAxe and ouch on the sinus infection- hope it clears up quickly.
rob |
Oh, BattleAxe, I'm sorry you are still not feeling good! And, I hope the Dr. agrees that you gall bladder is OK and doesn't have to see the light of day. Sounds like you qualify for another exemption due to feeling rotten.
