It took me several weeks to decide to make my purchase. I can't do push ups, but I'll do planks.
|
I was sorting through a couple of donations and I found a few sizable pieces of a pale pink and a few smaller plain pieces so I now have a couple of blenders. :)

Irishrose2: I don't have anything specific to use the donated blenders in yet but I like to have enough on hand to fill in with patterned squares/blocks. I am mostly a scrappy quilter and use what is donated to donate back to my church group. I'm glad you are making yourself a quilt.

Good for you, Irishrose, everybody needs a nice quilt to cuddle under that they made for themselves. The first quilts I made 100 years ago were for me... They were too badly made to go anywhere else! Since then I made only one for myself years ago and that one is still going strong. Enjoy!!
|
Sometimes, when I finish a quilt for someone, my hubbie asks me not to give it away. I figure, since he helps finance this hobbie, he should have a say...plus, I'm super grateful that he enjoys what I produce enough to be territorial. Lol... Now, up front, I tell him it's for someone and we are not keeping it. If he still wants it, I make another for him. The only ones he doesn't fight me over are the QOV quilts.
|
Teen, isn't it great that he appreciates your work on those quilts so much that he wants to keep them ?! You got a keeper of a hubbie there in more ways than one! :)
|
Yes, I'm very blessed. When people come over he always wants me to show my quilts. Lol... And, he's out of control in a quilt shop. He brings me polka dot fabrics even when I'm trying to curb that lust for them. Lol...

I have fallen completely off the wagon. I managed to sell the old pizza building to a new chiropractor in town. Of course the money is burning a hole in my pocket. Am considering a sit down machine. As I did not get along with the stand up long arm due to my hip pain.
What I wanted to tell everyone is that the Quilted Twins, Rachel and Becky have these wonderful collections that are cheap-o cheap-o cheap. I bought the gilded Christmas, the animal skins: tiger, leopard, jaguar, zebra, and then the wood grained ones. Runs about $4.00 a yard. |
Battle Axe- I think you need to get that longarm! :D
Reading through these posts makes me laugh.... we are a bunch of lunatics! haha |
Battle Axe, I think that the new longarm won't count as a "falling off the wagon" issue. It's not fabric. And your new fabric can be forgiven with a bunch of sit-ups! Enjoy!! :)

I planned a fall off this train, then the freezer section of my fridge decided to stop freezing. I’ve been cooking meats & taking them to daughter’s freezer. Plus I tried to get a technician for my fridge but there are none in my area for Samsung. Not sure if they have to be flown in, but this isn’t the only issue I’ve had with this fridge, so I just went to Home Depot & ordered a new one. Not as fancy as the broken one in the hopes that there’s less to go wrong with it. HD had a big appliance sale during the long holiday weekend so all things are on backorder. Meaning I have to put up with my current one until Nov 13. Bah! No ice cream for 3.5 weeks! Needless to say, I don’t have $$ for fabric now so I guess I’ll continue as a passenger. Plus I’m grouchy & hoping there’s some ice cream in the dining car.
|
We've had financial suprises the last 3 yrs. NO FUN! Sure puts a crimp in my style. And Jan comes the $3000 deductable on health insurance. So it's lay low and hope to sell some art.
Stash is going to get used during these expenses. |
Sending ((((happy vibes))))) to both Conchalea and petthefabric......hoping things ease up a bit and you find all you need as you stash dive!!!
|
Conchalea and Petthefabric, I am so sorry y'all are going thru these bad patches! I just survived one of them myself this month. Emergency dental problem that ending up costing a very big bundle! (It ended up costing more than 2 new refrigerators! I've bought new cars for less in past years.) I spent the past two weeks going thru lots of figuring and financing hoops to get it paid. Yikes!!
|
Susan-I feel your dental pain! I’ve had lots of that myself in the past few years. My fridge woes wouldn’t have been so bad if I hadn’t just had to buy a new car after mine was totaled in my Sept 4 wreck.
Teen-thanks for the sympathy. Sometimes it’s nice to whine about things. I personally am ready for 2019: my son-in-law was hit on his motorcycle in Jan & had to have a hip replaced; my 43 year-old daughter had a stroke in April; my oldest gs had a car wreck in July; my car wreck in Sept; & my younger daughter developed cellulitis in a leg wound. Enough, already! |
Just had oral surgery myself last week..ugh! I think I have one tooth in my head that is normal and is still mine. Lol.. I have a lifetime of dental issues and surprised I don't have full dentures at this point. I could buy an island with the amount of money I've spent.
Conchalea....goodness...when it rains it pours. I have family struggling with illness, too, right now. The scary kind of stuff and I'm 3,000 miles away, trying to sell my home and move, and I feel helpless. So, I totally get it. Personally, I'm exhausted from the stress but persevering..... You will too cuz quilter's and bikers are made of tough stuff. So stand strong, girl! on another note....Tula Pink daily deal at MSQS today. I deleted email. Seriously tough to do... |
Conchalea, you really have had so many bad things happen to you and your family lately... The refrigerator is the least of it all. You just have to think that if money solves the problem, it isn't too much of a problem at all, but all those health issues are the real problems. My prayers are going out for you and your family. Next year has to be better!!
You are right! Dental stuff is no fun! I spent 3+ hours in the dentist's chair with 2 sets of hands in my mouth!! UGH! Teen, I guess somebody has to pay to help dentists be able to sent their kids to college... or maybe they bought that island! |
Conchalea and Petthefabric, I hope you both find better healing vipers for your family members and yourself. Quilting really does help smooths the negative vibes. At least it does for me.
I found another quilt pattern qal bow which started today. I went through some of my stash and all but the background fabric came from my stash. I will also use my stash for another mystery project. I’m excited about starting these projects from my stash. When tops are done I will post pics. |
Susan, Happy, & Teen, thank you all for your sympathy & letting me whine a bit.
Teen, I’m sorry you’re so far away from your family with illness. I live 6 miles from one daughter & 1/2 mile from the other so we can all gather in times of need. I was only ever 200 miles from them & felt that was too far. It’s why I’m back in central Texas after 30+ years out in west Texas. I can’t imagine being 3000 miles away. The good thing is we’re all recovering & still able to do the things we want. Even my daughter’s stroke was a mild one, though still unexplained, & she’s doing well. So hopefully we got all the bad over with & next year will be better. Come on, 2019! |
I come around often and read your stories. Awe the good life and not so good at times. It's a good thing we have loads of stash and love to quilt! By the way, I've only spent $40.00 on fabric this year. See what y'all have done to me! And it's a good thing!
|
Good for you, Rhonda Lee....that must feel good....or.........not!! lol!! I love buying new and fresh fabric... Double edge sword, for sure.
|
Good job, Rhonda Lee! The purchase for the background in my Burgoyne Surrounded bit into my stash accumulation, even though I am using it now.
|
Oops! After I've done so well this year with not buying any fabric or batting at all, I got a call from a friend who took my job as "Craft Lady" at the thrift shop. First, let me say that she is not a quilter. She said that she got 3 huge rolls of batting in and did I need any. She needed help with pricing it anyway... would I drop in to help her. Wow! 3 huge rolls of batting?! I couldn't resist. Away I went ...quickly! Well, it turned out to be 2 tiny crib-size packages and a new bolt of muslin.... fabric. (Did I tell you that she's no quilter?) I bought the batting. Now I have to do those push-ups! But I go to a seniors' exercise class 3 times a week... Do they count? If not, how many push-ups do I need to do? Please remember, I'm old, and these a just 2 tiny packs of batting! Be gentle, please.
|
Batting you will use soon doesn't require push ups. You donate so many quilts that it's a by.
Good for you that you have classes available and take advantage of them. I only have my yoga class, then I'm on my own. Oh, and a dog that requires walking. |
Thank you, Irishrose! I'm not too good with push-ups! Yes, those 2 rolls will be used in donation quilts. In fact, I just used one today.
If you are on Medicare, and have the insurance that covers those Silver Sneakers classes, they are free at any fitness place that offer senior exercise classes. The insurance companies pick up the bill because it keeps us in shape and we don't have to go to the doctors often with aches and pains. Yipee!! |
Congrates to everyone on not buying much fabric this year. I've done so-so.
I so want to go crazy with all of the sales going on in my area. I'm biting at the bit, waiting for BH to release the details on her mystery quilt for this year. I decided I want to buy Batiks and maybe change the colorway to my colors. She could surprise me and I may like her colorway. The last 2 years I really liked her colors. I also need to buy background fabric for several projects for the future. That I could wait to buy. The urge is there. I will wait until next month, then I will buy my fabric. At lease that's what I keep telling myself. |
Great restraints everyone! Sorry to hear of your troubles everyone! I will be sending out wishes that the rest of this year and next will be less challenging. Sure is hard when life throws us curve balls.

I will have to look at my policy again. I read it as only covering one class a week. I don't know if the Y found a new instructor for their Senior Fit classes or if they on Priority's list. The Pilates is at a rehab place that also holds classes.
|
Oh dear! I just ordered the Quilted Twins package of Good Fortune. It just looked so yummy. $97.00 with shipping. How many pushups do I have to do for that?
Almost finished with Allietare and all of that was out of the stash. ' Marcia |
I love the colors of this current BH mystery, Battleaxe.... It's so me...I probably have all the fabric for it...just not the time. I'll be downloading the pattern just in case I go for it later.
5 push-ups should do it. I would say more but you are going to use these right away in the mystery so they aren't really going to stash. Plus, digging through stash to find all fabrics needed for her mysteries is a pain... You'd probably end up doing a bunch of push ups just lifting, squatting and digging thru stash... Lol.. |
I have a confession to make and this boo-boo will require at least a dozen push-ups. I made my first fabric purchase since 12/17. I bought a king size flat sheet that is in great condition on sale for $1.50 and I had a $1.00 coupon from my neighborhood thrift shop. It will make at least 4 crib sheets.... I just couldn't resist. So... here goes the push-ups! I still have tons of stash, so if I climb back on the wagon or another year or two, maybe I'll finally see a part of the floor in my spare bedroom! :)
|
Climb back on board Silly Susan. Those sheets are huge so would be hard to pass up when you can find a nice one.
Battleaxe enjoy your package - after pushups of course:) |
I just recently found and joined the Quilting Board but I have been trying not to add to the stash and use up fabrics as I can. About the only fabric I have purchased this year was from the Quilt Guilds "Mall in the Hall" sale. I make bags for OCC shoeboxes and have made close to 200 this year using up fabric on hand. Also several quilts made from the stash. And it still doesn't seem like I have made much of a dent. I have sorted my many scrap bins by color and have started making string blocks for a future quilt. If I use all of the scraps I should have enough for many quilts.
|
Welcome to the board, LindaJane, and to the moritorium thread. It sounds like you are already focused on stash busting and doing a great job at it. 200 shoeboxes? wonderful and..wow...very giving of your time and efforts. One of the many things I love about the members of the board is their genuine giving hearts. You fit right in. Will look forward to seeing your work and rooting you on as you attempt to use your stash...
|
I decided to stop this thread early. I want to buy new fabric for the BHMQ this year. I went through my stash a few weeks ago and noted I don't have enough of any of the colors for the entire quilt. So I will likely go out and buy all the fabric at a LQS. I will be exchanging out 2 of her colors. I'm not into red or orange. I'll see what the store has. I'm hoping this is not a design for children, with the size I'm really wondering. I know as always, time will tell. Have fun and congrates everyone on keeping with staying on the wagon. Great job this year everyone.
|
Yes and welcome LindaJane! It sounds like you have made the commitment many of us have...use what we have when we can. As mentioned many times on the thread...we aren't here to quit buying fabric, but to use what we have and buy when we need to. Sounds like happylab, checked her stash first and then needed to supplement what she didn't have.
