Welcome LindaJane! You sound like one of us fabricholics taking it one day at a time! These people here are very understanding and will encourage you to stay on the wagon. You're doing a super job stash-busting already. And, another Moritorium starts after Christmas. I'm signing up. I need all the help I can get!
|
Welcome LindaJane!
I get a birthday exemption this month and may use my birthday 20% off coupon at the LQS on Friday. I don't need anything specific but I may buy a book panel for a friend's future grand baby. The LQS has 40% off lots of items on Small Business day the Saturday after Black Friday so I may check that out as well. I do need a new bottle of Best Press. :) It could be a costly month if I add fabric to that discount. |

Here are some of my recent projects where I have used stash fabric.

Awesome, LindaJane....that purse rocks and both quilts are adorable. Love the pig blocks. So creative. You've got some great stash..
|
Actually doing this is quite hard. I have found great deals on Moda grunge and have bought for backings and backgrounds for my scrap quilts. However, I am getting ready to make some projects from my stash and will post. Thanks for the inspiration.
|
Nice stash projects, LindaJane!
Darcyshannon...the Grunge will be a great fabric to all the scrap fabrics together...looking forward to seeing your projects. |

Since everyone likes pic. I’m posting pic of me falling off the wagon. My batiks for BHMQ “Good Fortune.” I guess I could use my birthday and soon future project use. But I also bought other batik fabric. A total of 4 yards for another project. I did go through my stash and scraps last month and didn’t like or have enough fabric of each color for this mystery, so off to LQS I went. Plus there was a shop hop going on this weekend. So now Back to being on the fence again. Happy stash and scrap shopping at home everyone.
|
Lovely fabrics. I have a couple of them and need 1/4 yard of the light one. I have a Spicy Spiral table runner to make soon.
|
Beautiful fabrics, happylab... Your quilt will be gorgeous.. I am following the thread so I can watch it all unfold. Her mysteries are always hard to figure out...lol...
|
I tackled the seasonal fabrics bin this weekend. Made 18 Christmas stockings and sorted and cleaned up the bin. These will be used for Adopt-a-Family at work and other charity projects. I also finally got back to working on a rag rug and have about 20 rows left to finish it so it can be ready for a upcoming birthday present.
|
I dug in the selvage bin and made a couple of trash can bags...one for work the other to give away. Will try to get pics taken to post later.
|
Welcome LindaJane. Those pigs are so cute and 18 stockings WOW. Thanks for the picture happylab. They're making me drool!
I have completed one top using scraps and have been rooting around in my fabric to try to find backing for it. Since it's from scraps, the back will be as well I guess since I can't find a color I like that's big enough. Need to sew other blocks together for another quilt top and find backing for that one as well. Should be a nice amount for stash going for this two projects providing I stay strong and use my stash. |
I dug the largest color scrap bag out...whacking away at it making mini's, plus 2 1/2" sq pieces, and rectangles for future bucket list quilts.
Today...the color purple. |
It's always sad when I use up the very last of a fabric. I just had 3 yards of green 30 inches wide and I needed 4 strips of 7 1/2 inch border. There might be a little dab left, but nothing to write home about.
|
It's OK, Battle Axe. They are still manufacturing plenty of fabric. You'll always find more of your favorites, or new favorites. To me, it just feels good to get it out of my stash!!!
|
Just spent $60 on fabric at the LQS. Up here in the mountains, there's not a lot of choice. It's for my current project. And definitely have shopped the stash. It's in the wash, so I've got a break.

Time flies! I can't believe that we are in the last official week of the challenge, which brings me to another topic. I have had a few things going on in my real life (nothing bad!) that have been taking up a lot of time, so I haven't been posting and so have not been a very good hostess for this thread. Since the additional activities will continue, I would like to pass the baton for hosting the 2019 challenge to someone else who's more active. If you are interested, please send me a PM!

So, please, pretty please, let's keep it going into next year! Thank you, PaperPrincess, I think you did a great job!! |
You've been a great hostess, Paperprincess... I know, with everyone's encouragement, I did not spend as much money on fabric as I have in the past and, for the most part, only purchased when nothing in my stash would do or with an exemption. I flubbed up a couple of times but I'm pretty proud of myself...
Thank you for hosting this year's moratorium!!! Congratulations to all the successes I've watched over the past year!! You guys have been super committed to your goals! You should all be proud of yourselves!! |
Thanks PaperPrincess..this moratorium thread is good for the soul as well as the bank account. Thanks for being a wonderful hostess.
|
Here we are! The day before the day before US Black Friday (although I have to tell you we watch a bunch of Canadian TV, and all their stores are talking about black Friday sales too). Friday will be the 'official' end of the moratorium, but it's up to you if you want to continue your fabric diet until the end of the year, or partake in the year end sales. I was pretty good for several weeks, then went to a class & purchased a couple yards of sale fabric, then to make matters worse, we went to the thrift store yesterday. I got a 2 yard piece of gorgeous swirly green fabric, LQS brand, with Metallic Gold Dots. $0.75. How could I resist?
On another note, Conchalea has stepped up and will be the hostess with the mostest for next year's moratorium. Thanks so much!!! So what are your fabric plans for the tail end of 2018? Naughty or nice? |
Thank you Conchalea for leading us on another year. I think I will be nice...I know the sales are tempting, but I have way too much fabric to use up!
Score on the Metallic Gold dot fabric, Paper Princess and thanks again for spearheading the group for the past few years! |
I have two special stockings to do for new family members out of felt. Other than that I don't have any projects pending so hopefully will be able to get some ufos and stashbusting done as I will have time off around Christmas. I did get my rug done and started another with leftover strips from other rugs so will be multi colors. My daughter is a thrift store shopping extrodinaire so she is always bringing me fabric and even some quilt tops so may try to get some of the tops completed for charity projects.
|
Thank you PP for hosting this year...and thank you Conchalea for taking the reins for next year. I plan to stay on track with discipline in my shopping. However, I need a bunch of pale pink fabrics for an applique project ai want to do. I am not a pink person but this project is adorable in all soft pinks and grays..a bit of soft tan. I don't need much...just a small sampling of several pinks so I might head out on BF and see what I can find. Other than that, I have 5 projects, each with of stacked fabric, ready to go so I think I'm good for awhile...
PP...awesome find on at thrift store. I need to go to one...I hear so many stories of great finds there. |
Thank you Conchelea
|
I know everyone on this thread will continue supporting & encouraging each other on next year’s moratorium.
I haven't decided if ill if I’ll be naughty or nice at the official end of the moratorium. My birthday is the first week of Dec, AFTER the moratorium is over, of course. I’m still working on my Hanging Garden & once it’s finished I’ll have to decide what I want to work on next. That will determine my fabric purchases. |
I'm going to try to be nice and not go to any place in which I may be tempted.
Thanks, Conchalea, for hosting next years' moratorium. I need all the encouragement y'all hand out so graciously. And, thanks again, PaperPrincess, for your hosting this years' moratorium. I do appreciate it greatly. |
Okay...so I lied...or should I say I failed. I finished off a bolt of sale fabric and bought a yard of another sale fabric! and it's not Black Friday yet! I know I'm excused, but really, G, how could you?
|
PaperPrincess- thanks for hosting!
And thanks to Conchalea for stepping up to host next year. My plans for the rest of this year are to continue (a much as possible) with my own personal moratorium as I've got all the fabric I need to complete my current projects. I may have to buy a small amount for the potholders I've got planned for my barn friends, but other than that I'm set. I will definitely be participating in next year's moratorium. Even though I've occasionally fallen off the wagon, I have definitely seen a reduction in my stash and a conversion of my shopping habits from buying "just because" to buying with an eye to what my stash needs to have in order to be "most useful" for the kinds of things I like to do. My stash has gotten a bit smaller and more manageable in my small space and my pocketbook is very happy with the relatively smaller cash outlays. Happy Day everyone! Rob |
I fell so far off the wagon I can't even see its dust in the distance anymore :) One Block Wonders were my downfall, and I bought fabric for 6 or 7 this year. I even finished a couple. But I think I'm actually done purchasing for the year, now. With the Canada Post strike, there's no sense ordering anything online. And I don't have any reason to pop into the local shops so hopefully can avoid temptation for the next month.
|
Krista, sometimes things conspire for/against us. From what you’ve said though, your stash seems to be healthy enough to withstand a period of time without you adding to it. You could consider this a head start on next year’s moratorium!
|
Pre-Black Friday deals at LQS's and on -line have been a killer to ignore. I have resisted but tomorrow...all bets are off...I plan on going to 2 shops tomorrow in search of pink....but...if there are polka dots, I need someone's cell number so I can call for encouragement..lol!! I am seriously thinking of just taking a certain amount of cash, leave CC and checkbook at home.

Thank you, Paper Princess, for hosting this year and thank you to everyone for helping me think about a purchase before I make it.
Conchalea, thank you for agreeing to be our next illustrious leader. I am going to continue to think before I purchase, so there will be no wily nily purchases - minus the one I made late on Black Friday. I went to a WalMart in Kentucky just to check out the fabric available because there are such differences of opinion on the quilt board about the quality of fabric there. A precut yard of Robert Kinkade mottled lilac/green fabric came home with me. It matches many of my Northcutt Stonehenge fabrics so it will be useful. I have a WalMart here and the last I knew they carried fabric, but I do not frequent the store for various reasons. The precut appears to be a nice quality and it was only $5.84. My opinion on their fabric - like JoAnn's it's a piece by piece decision. Some is very nice and some isn't. |
Progress Report!! My son was here over the Thanksgiving holidays. He and I spent a few hours trying to declutter. Mostly moving stuff from one box, bin, shelf, stack to another, but I did part with a half of a tall kitchen bag full of scraps that will be going to a friend tomorrow.... and a few larger pieces that will go to a thrift shop. And, I can see patches of floor in the upstairs guest bedroom!!!
I also packed up 12 baby quilts and 36 crib sheets and misc. other things. I will be delivering them today to the Crisis Pg. Center! Yipee!! I can see some dents in my stash!! Thanks for all your encouragement! I hope to keep away from any place that sells fabric for another year. |
Silly Susan...the sweet feeling of success! Way to go!
|
Congrats Silly Susan. Donating is one sure fire way to reduce.
Thank you for hosting PaperPrincess and Conchelea for volunteering to host next year. And for everyone's encouragement. Though I had no intention on buying, I sure did anyways. I held off temptation till yesterday so I know it was not moratorium rules but my own (like to keep fabric sprees down period). Just too good of sales to not partake. What I purchased was a lot as well. I picked up 6 pieces for quilt backs so 30 yards and each will work for queen size down. I don't do much more than that size anyways. Though I fell I really was thinking of the best pieces for the types of fabric I already have so hopefully they will coordinate well. IrishRose2 I understand what you mean. Walmart and Joanns have some good fabric but it's a touch and feel process for me. Learned years ago if it didn't meet requirements, I wasn't going to purchase no matter how much I liked the pattern. Rarely am I disappointed. |
Good for you, Susan. I truly want to get rid of several items each day in December. That gives me the rest of this week to straighten the house and finish the baby quilt that will be mailed to Kentucky so I'm ready.
|
I am using a lot of little pieces of scraps for all the mini's and ornaments I've been doing. I started to cut the balance up in 2 1/2" and rectangle cuts for a couple of scrappy quilts on my bucket list. In addition, I went through one entire bag of scrap batting for all these mini projects I'm doing and QB swaps I've joined for which I am very excited.
SillySusan.... Good for you! I know how hard you've been trying this year to declutter. Awesome son to help you out! Irishrose2.... That is a great goal for December. I have set aside a box of fabric to take to a church quilt group next week. It's stuff they can use for donation projects and none I foresee me using anytime soon... Most I bought at bargain stash at guild quilt shows... We should all be prou d of ourselves. |
I did visit Missouri Star (online) on Friday. I got a couple of rulers, but no fabric, so I'm pretty pleased with myself. I'm taking a whole carload of items to the thrift store tomorrow. No fabric, but that's my next project. Our annual holiday party is this weekend. People keep RSVPing... right now I'm up to 52.
