So much is going on, I haven't been able to keep up! Great finishes everyone.
DawnMc- I'm sorry to hear about your BIL and that your mother has been ill. Being a caregiver takes time and energy- don't sweat the UFOs they will get done when you're ready. I didn't get the Feb. UFO I'd planned on working on done (it's now being worked on and will probably get done for March) but I did manage to find one that needed a couple more quilting lines and binding so I do have a Feb. finish.-- Isn't it amazing what you can find if you do a sewing studio clean up/declutter/organization day???? Anyway, this was one of those things that had gotten piled onto the guest bed and completely forgotten about. It's small, about 35 wide by 25 or so high and is a collaborative piece. DH did the photo collage that he then printed on fabric and I quilted it. Rob |
Dawnmc, I must apologize; I posted my reactions to the quilts on the previous page without catching up on later posts, and it came across as heartless coming right after your post on your family troubles. I'm so sorry.
|
rryder, that's remarkable. It's hard to imagine it being forgotten about. It makes me wonder what other treasures you have piled on the guest bed, LOL.
|
Beautiful art quilt, Rob. I agree with Joe's Mom... you should keep digging around for more treasure!
|
Thanks y’all.
congrats on the new grandbaby, Sewbiz! She’s adorable. Rob |
Love your art quilt, Rob.... The quilting is amazing, as always.... I think you got the 16 down...

Be sure to check their free pattern section. I was amazed at the work put in there and then given away free. Marcia |
Sewbizgirl: Congratulations on your beautiful grandchild Millie!
Rob: A very pretty UFO finish. |

Just under the wire, I finished 3 UFOs for February. I finished 2 other quilts too, but they never even achieved UFO status! Here are my finishes:
This swoon quilt started as sample blocks for a class I taught 6 years ago. Finally pulled it out, finished enough blocks to make a donation quilt, and put the rest of the fabric back into stash. This quilt was a block party from last February. Everyone in the group made a block from fabric I provided, and I put it all together last summer. Finally done and quilted. This little donation quilt is from the leftovers of the previous one. I played with them on my wall for a few weeks, and finished it up so it can go to show and tell with it's Mommy quilt :) Now there is not one bit of this fabric left in my stash. |
Krista, your quilts are always so beautiful! I love your fabric choices for the swoon. Congratulations on three great finishes!
|
Beautiful quilts, Krista! Great finishes. It's a wonder what we have hanging around in our sewing rooms, isn't it?
I spray basted 6 quilt tops and quilted 3 of them yesterday-- small donation lap quilts. Three more to get done and then I can try to get back to finishing a UFO. I have my Allietare top to do, and another Bonnie Hunter top, plus a Farmer's Wife 1930's sampler to assemble. I made 100 of those beautiful paper pieced blocks... so. much. work.... and then just left them in a stack for over a year. I really need to put that one together! All that work can't go to waste! This thread is great help in keeping me thinking about my UFOs... the first step towards finishing them. |
Krista....fabulous finishes!! Don't you love it when you use "every bit" of fabric leftovers? That is a goal of mine with every project I do.. I'm working my way through a FQ bundle to see how many projects I can get out of it right now. Fun challenge.
Sewbiz....would love to see your FW quilt!! Been thinking of doing that pattern. Indeed, a lot of work |
Wonderful quilts, Krista.

Beautiful finishes Krista!
What is a Swoon quilt? I remember seeing a swoon quilt along on QB several years back, but never did know what the Swoon stood for. Is it the name of the block? Or is it one of those quilting acronyms like "FMQ" or "SABLE"????? Rob |

Kristakz: Beautiful quilts and congratulations on finishing 3 UFO's!

I have a February finish of a UFO, but haven't taken a photo yet. I'll post when I do that (hopefully, before it snows again) LOL!

SBG, Maybe Millie's nose will be like yours? :-)
Nice finish on the Art quilt. That's on my to-do list, if I get UFOs finished. lol The swoon quilt looks wonderful in the coordinated prints. I'm often wondering what to do with fabrics from a designer that are all coordinated as I like doing scrappy and do that most often. I'll have to keep swoon in mind! If I write it down, I'll lose the note. If I try to remember, it's highly likely I won't. Maybe somebody here can remind me, if the time comes. :-p Yesterday I procrastinated on sandwiching my column. Gotta get to it... |

Krista -- wonderful quilts! I particularly like the second one- the blue and purple.

Anyone setting UFO Goals for March? It is still a raging winter here in SW Michigan, so I am staying hunkered down with UFOs and my sewing machine. I am going for.....three finishes this month; two baby and one twin. Fingers crossed.
|
WMUTeach: I understand about a raging winter. Spring break starts on Friday so I plan to sew as much as possible.
|
I'm not sure if I will get to any UFO's in March, WMUTeach...I've been concentrating on new projects and finishing them! I do have one UFO I should get done...it's been a WIP, that slowly morphed into UFO status. I have a couple new projects I sure would like to have done. Both will use stash although one has had FIW..fabric in waiting... for about 18 months and the other will definitely use stash fabrics...oh torn between UFO's and Fabric Moratorium!
I'm putting final stitches on a stash quilt made from leftovers from a major quilt..2 projects averted from UFO land...does this count? And then my sister from out east will be spending a few days with us the end of March...so looking forward to her visit! |
I'm trying for one UFO completion in March. I have two that I want to get done. Both have been partially quilted, but need some additional quilting, so whichever one I'm most inspired to work on will get my attention...I still haven't started any new projects this year since I was working on UFOs, WIPs and some painting related things. I'm thinking it may be summer before I get to the point where I've got time to start something new. Blame it on my studio to do list that I started in Dec. 2018 to keep up with Holiday deadlines. It helped so much that I went ahead and made up a new one for 2019 with a page for each Month. What that means is that my attention is now being focussed on actually completing already started objects. Every time I think about starting a new thing I see my notebook sitting there with it's page for this month already filled with to do's and deadlines and that sure does squash any notion of starting a whole new object.... At this rate, I may never start anything new again...
Rob |
You've got a great plan, Rob... I can speak from personal experience how good it feels to stick with a routine to start and finish a project but it certainly takes discipline...especially when new fabrics or patterns inspire you. I have found that doing little projects in between larger projects helps keep me motivated to stay focused. Hence, evidence of the ton of mini's I have done over the last few months. Lol.. Whatever works!
OK...I love visit from sisters!! So glad you have that to look forward to in March! |

My goal for this month is to finish the quilt that was my goal for last month. :D I am making progress on it and should soon be done with the third quadrant.
|
My plan is two of my own and two that I was sent by a kind member here. I'll only "count" the ones that I started. These will all be prayer quilts. I'm working on two quilt alongs and hope to get those finished as well (or at least to the quilted-yet-not-bound stage. My quilting machine has begun to act up so he might need to go into the sewing machine hospital. If that happens, then all bets are off in the completely completed dept. Keep up the good work, everyone.
|
I would love to get to one UFO before the end of March, but with a second grandbabe coming at the same time (the first one is 2 weeks old!) I am not sure I will be able. I also have a wedding gown to alter for a bride, and still have several baby things to make. So may not have a completed UFO until April! I will try tho. Every post I read here is motivation.
|
Congratulations, sewbizgirl -- two new grandbabies!
|
Congrates Showbizgirl on 2 new GB's.
Rob, your UFO schedule sounds like a great idea, may have to try it. I just love all of the UFO finishes this month. By the way we had a grand total of 13 completed UFO's for the Month of February. Congrates to all the members who completed the lovely UFO. I have about 6-7 UFO's almost finished for March. 1. Binding on a baby quilt; 2. a very small quilted small block; 3. Easter table runner; 4. shades of blue throw quilt; 5. Wolf w/h; 6. QQ BOM 2008? twin or queen (I forget the size) and 7. another throw. The last 4 are getting quilted and I should have them back to put on binding by the end of the week. 3 of the last 4 I hope to get accepted for a quilt show in June. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'll post pics when I get them completed. And lastly I'm working on making curtains for my downstairs. Happy sewing and quilting everyone. |
happylab, wow! So many of your UFOs are about to be completed. Good for you!
And thanks for the congrats on my grandbabies. We are so excited to finally become grandparents! After saying I wouldn't be working on UFOs, I went and picked up the basket with cut pieces for Winding Ways blocks that I cut ages ago. I had cut 25 and pieced a few, but they were hard to piece so I abandoned the project. Into it's basket it went. Every so often I piece a couple. Tonight I got them out and pieced some more... and about 16 blocks into the project, I finally figured out how to sew them so they come out right. I have now finished all but maybe 6. I will be so glad to finish this UFO. For some reason, I had tremendous guilt over it. Maybe because I spent too much on the fancy Marti Michell templates so I could make it. So! Getting closer on one UFO. |
Way to go, happylab....that's fantastic!!
sewbiz...winding ways blocks and I do not get along...at all... You are close so good on you! I would have donated the entire project and called it good....lol... Still plugging away on a quilt using my vintage fabric. All the blocks are a different PP pattern and size so those always take longer..At least for me it does. I designed my layout in my new EQ8 so I'm eager to see if I can pull this off. It's a fun project. |
What colors are your vintage fabrics, Teen? Any idea what age of vintage? i have collecting some vintage myself...not sure what I want to do with it though.
|
OK....really pale (muted) blue, orange, green, red, yellow colors from one collection...and, soft pinks.. Mostly floral with a couple of polka dots and check board type prints from collection. One floral has a black background so I'm splashing some black here and there...not a lot but enough to balance it a bit. The main collection is from Fig & Tree Co. Called ".....at heart I am Farmhouse kind of girl". I'm not using all the fabrics since I want this quilt to be soft in color pallet. I'm pulling from other vintage stash for fillers.. I have no idea what this is gonna look like altogether when done but, so far, the blocks are so pretty.
|
I just did a quick google for Winding Ways. Yup, not for me. I have heard the name so much but the pattern just did not come to mind. So three cheers for you, Sewbiz, and I will live in my world of bliss and not go there. The blocks would wind up (yuck, yuck) in my UFO pile for sure. Beautiful end product though. Post a photo for us to see you handiwork.

I have a box full of vintage 2" squares, and some scraps of bigger pieces. They are all cut, and would make great granny square blocks. Maybe I will play with them onewth of these days. They just seemed so precious I hesitated to do anything with them.
And these are the Winding Ways UFO blocks I started working on again. I have about 18 of them made, out of 25. |
