Fantastic finishes Madeline and CarrieM!

I'm still working on the UFO that was supposed to be my June finish LOL! Oh well, it will get done eventually, but I'm probably going to have fewer UFO completions this year than i'd wanted.

The UFO count for July was 19, yea!!!! The 2 members with the most finishes were Petthefabric = 7 and Motorcyclemad = 4.

I completed my 3 Baby quilts I was working on, now on to more projects. (1) Batik 12.5" swap blocks twin quilt. Blocks all made and black sashing cut. Just need to lay out and sew top together. And going back to Pink and blue top (still making the blocks) and a Halloween queen size top (still making pieces). Anyway happy sewing/quilting everyone.

LOL Teen with UFO's! You have me laughing. FYI our guild is having a UFO challenge for the year...will see how may take up the challenge? I'm starting off the meeting with some of mine and how/why they happened, how to handle them and how to prevent. Do you want to come and visit us in September? Oh to be fair 2 of the 4 on the program committee do not have UFO's. Like you, they are so much more disciplined than me!

Motorcyclemaid you not only finished UFO's, you finished big UFO's...Kuddos!

I'll be there in September!! Lol... UFO's cause me stress so that is how I'm able to stay with a project until completed. Right now, it's frustrating since I've not the space or access to my stuff to complete my projects...but, I'm hanging on to the idea that this is temporary. Whatever works! Lol!

Ha Ha.. "Deep in December it's nice to remember the fire of September that made us mellow..." from "The Fantastiks"

WMUTeach 08-09-2019 05:00 PM

oksewglad, I haven't heard that song for quite a while. Thanks for the memory....Bob Hope.

Thanks, Rob.
I definitely understand getting fewer UFOs done than I had planned. Three of those four were more than 2 or 3 years past "expected completion" date. :o

I finally got several row-sets ironed. Hopefully, I can get the rows sewn and borders put on them within the next week. Wish me luck.

Count an August finish for me! This past week while purging, I found 56 denim and cotton quilt blocks numbered and ready to sew. I put them together in 2 night time sewings. The next night I pinned to the LA..then spent yesterday getting ready for company. This morning when 15 yo GD was here I enticed her to start meandering! This was her first time at the LA, but she has quilted a quilt on a DSM. Her stitching was so even! She's a natural with artistic talent and will easily adapt to FMQ (my machine doesn't have CAD features). She picked out a new to me pantograph she would like to try on baby sized flimsy she put together earlier. Bummer is I work tomorrow and she starts school on Friday. Sewing time is going to be limited now. Picture will follow.

Teen 08-22-2019 12:15 PM

What a fun time you have with your grandbabies, OK.... Looking forward to seeing her FMQ!

So, I have two tops ready to quilt. Decided to make a barn quilt instead of adding to the unfinished pile...I bought everything yesterday and will be working on that this weekend.

This is the UFO finish for August.. I'm still working on phone photo shots.

retiredteacher09 08-22-2019 05:53 PM

Great finish!

oksewglad 08-22-2019 08:04 PM

Thanks, Connie....And now I found another ufo...143 10" squares made up of 71 checkerboard (done), 50 evening stars (done) and 22 star blocks with a small checker board in the middle. Checkerboard centers are done and am making the star points on 18 blocks. Using the no waste FG method for star points. This was inspired by Barbara Brackman's Under Lincoln's Stars. We'll see how long this takes me. I have the backing picked, but plan on putting a row of checkerboards and stars to widen my backing fabric so that will mean making more blocks. I started this more than a couple of years ago from scrap pieces.

rryder 08-23-2019 12:32 AM

You and your granddaughter make a great team! Nice finish!

Rob

joe'smom 08-23-2019 03:38 PM

That's a charming quilt, oksewglad!

petthefabric 08-23-2019 04:50 PM

Finished 2 comfort quilts started last year. Got two more to finish binding. Then shoulder surgery will curtail sewing for about 6 wks.

happylab 08-24-2019 04:52 AM

ok, such a pretty nice finish. A great way to use up the (looks like) 2.5" squares.

Great 2 more finishes for PTF. Good luck on your shoulder surgery. I'll be sending warm fuzzies and quilting hugs your way.

Still working on my Batik squares. Hopefully completed by EOW. Digging out my train UFO and debating which other one to quilt of my 22 quilt tops I've completed. I'm also starting to cut new Halloween quilt for my niece. It's a very basic pattern we picked fabric out together. Oh well need to get to work. Happy sewing/quilting everyone.

oksewglad 08-24-2019 05:52 AM

Thanks for the kind words folks. Yes happylab...lots of 2 1/2 inch squares almost 900. My next UFO has 568 of them plus 176 1 1/2". Will soon have all the blocks done on that one.

petthefabric..good luck on your surgery. You can use the down time to plan new quilts now that you are getting UFO's done!

cherrybsixty 08-24-2019 08:18 PM

Oksew, lovely finish for you

Petthefab, blessing for your surgery

Happy sewing everyone--Cherryb

rryder 08-25-2019 08:49 AM

Good luck with the surgery, Petthefabric!

haven't been doing my ufo's ladies at my sewing group are having a retreat for whatever, I have dug out 3 ufo and taking them. won't get them all done but its better then starting another one. which I have been doing this summer since my Mom passed away, time to finish as there are so many unfinished in my sewing room, out numbers finished Here is hoping I can at least get one done starting Wed. We will see, one has outside setting triangles which I have a horrible time figuring out. Hoping I can get some help and then get the star quilt done. Wish me luck, and that will be the tops but I will immediately take to the LA when done

oksewglad 08-26-2019 08:03 AM

I miscalculated...current WIP UFO has almost 1200 2.5 squares! Tickled as I have 6 of the 13 rows sewn in pairs. I had to place fabrics in 2 sessions as the whole quilt wouldn't fit on the tablecloth design wall! I originally planned to use cotton backing with a row of blocks off set, but might use a minky type instead...I think I have a light tan that's big enough. Hope to get it down in the next week or so.

Teen 08-26-2019 11:54 AM

You are going to town on that, OK. I still am having difficulty wrapping my head around the idea that you just "discovered" 143 10" squares blocks. Lol...

tohorse....sounds like a good plan for the retreat. Hope you have a good time since this summer has been so difficult. So sorry to hear of the loss of your mother.

oksewglad 08-26-2019 12:25 PM

Actually Teen they are 10" blocks, another miscalculation on my part!

I am embarrassed to admit how many UFO's I have. Our guild is presenting a UFO challenge to our members...strictly voluntary...but we are offering rewards for finishes. As a program committee member, I need to set an example:D. I hope to use this as a personal incentive. And I will not reap the rewards, other than getting a UFO finished.

By the way...anyone have ideas we can use for incentive rewards? We have limited funds hoping to come up with some inexpensive, but fun ideas. I picked up a couple of little cups for 50cents that are maybe 2" tall that I plan on turning into pin cushions. I also picked up a composition notebook with graph paper pages which i will put a cute cover on. i thought I'd go through some of my old buttons and put together a button assortment..maybe add some odds and ends of old needlework. Another member came buy a bunch of nice zippers at a rock bottom price that we will add. Seam rippers are also on the list. I need to look at my Pinterest page for some ideas I have over there.

petthefabric 08-26-2019 10:05 PM

This past 5 days, finished 2 more UFO's. Quilted 2 more, they need binding.

My surgery is tomorrow. Arrival time is 5:15AM. I didn't know that happened 2x each day. I'm a little spaced out this time around. I've washed my hair, completed 1 antiseptic shower and gathered cloths for tomorrow after surgery. The hospital called today for preop medical history and surgery day instructions. The Dr office called with arrival time. Sister called to confirm time for her to come. She's staying at least 1 wk. Daughter called to find out when to come to sit with me. I feel loved and cared for. Husband is taking shower and then will discuss final details and dry my hair (it's long and takes hours to dry naturally). House is stocked with groceries.

There is more to do, just got meloncholy and read most of day.

oksewglad 08-27-2019 05:14 AM

Best of luck...petthefabric.

Teen 08-27-2019 07:41 AM

Be well, pet. sounds like your care team is in place and raring to go.. You are so blessed to have them... Put your cares away and focus on wellness! Keep us updated...

retiredteacher09 08-27-2019 06:03 PM

Sending prayers your way, petthefabric.

oksewglad 08-29-2019 07:50 AM

I'm one of these people who jump from one thing to another...as a dairy farmer raising 4 kids that's how my days went most of my life. Now that much of that life is behind me, I still jump from one thing to another:D. I'm working on the 143 block UFO, but fit that project in between others when I want to sit down. So I'm purging and cleaning and found a denim quilt I started in 1992. It was to be for my son's dorm room...his son goes off to college next fall..better get Dad's done before I give GS his. (BTW GS's is done and waiting for him in a golf themed pillowcase.) A Hole in the Barn Door pattern was sandwiched with a poly batting a sheet for backing...we didn't have wide backings back in the 80's and 90's. I had started to big stitch the quilt and had it about 1/3 done. 9:00 PM last night I started ripping the stitching out and removing the safety pins and said "I'll just put this on the LA." Then I'll go to bed "Well what's the tension looks like..looks good." Then I'll go to bed. I'm going to do some quick loops to see how it looks and then go to bed....the joke's on me. I went to bed a 3:00 AM after taking the 70 x 92" UFO off the LA! A large piece of red plaid flannel was with the quilt for binding...looks like 1 1/4 yard...enough for a bias binding. So now to trim the quilt and make the binding! Then I will hand off the quilt to FarmerSon and tell him to keep warm at school...hahaha.

joe'smom 08-30-2019 07:25 AM

Wow, oksewglad, you were on a roll! Don't forget to sleep sometime!

happylab 08-30-2019 02:39 PM

I practiced on my long arm today. It quilts like a gem, so smooth. I just put 2 pieces of kid fabric together which I had in my UFO pile and did a merandering stitch, it will be a lap quilt. My stitches are looking better, like they are suppose to. So later this evening I will try the computer version of this pattern for edge to edge. I'm leaning on quilting the Olaf Top. This weekend is VQW for 4.5 days so I plan on quilting small to medium projects each day. Plus put on boarders on a few UFO projects that can then be finished tops. So I will have a few more UFO completed by the end of the weekend. happy quilting and sewing everyone.

oksewglad 08-30-2019 03:15 PM

happylab there is something very soothing about doing a simple meander...I hum as I stitch to get an even sewing rhythm. My machine does not have capability to download designs, so I'll be doing a lot of humming! Good luck on your projects.

petthefabric 09-02-2019 07:37 AM

Well, I missed posting this finish but it was done in August. This is a set of exchange blocks from my quilt guild, 2013. I started hand quilting and then set it aside. Decided I needed to finish this and to refine my hand work. So, it is now done. Got my stitches down to 8 - 10 per inch on the border. Much improved from some of the interior blocks. :o Check, check one more done! On to a September UFO and a large hand quilting project that was started 20 years ago by my SIL. Watch for that one in January - Tee-Hee-Hee!
