Thanks, Krisb, for carrying the baton on this.

oksew—you are right. My oldest son is a great dad, too.

We were just informed within the past hour by our son that my DIL has been having contractions all day. Sooooo exciiiiited!!!!

NZquilter 03-05-2020 07:00 AM

I'm keeping the prayers up for your brother-in-law, Zozee. Thanks for updating us. And yay for the newest baby on the way! Wishing mama a safe and easy delivery!

Yea, Zozee!! So excited for you and happy thoughts for mama and baby for a safe, quick delivery!

cherrybsixty 03-07-2020 05:14 PM

Hello everyone, I've been busy packing up some stuff in the past few days. I only have about six weeks and Georgia here I come.

Thank Krisb for your kindness and keeping up the counter position
Zozee, prayers are still being raised for you and your family and hopefully the new grand has been born
WMUTeach, thanks for your method on posting pix
Quossum, congrats on your double finish

Don't mind me I am still working on my 'Hunter Star' while trying to pack. I'm going to sew a seam this evening before I call it an evening

Happy sewing everyone

cherryb

Teen 03-07-2020 06:22 PM

HI, Cherry!! Oh wow....only 6 weeks before you move. I hope that the downsizing has gone smoothly for you and that the sewing breaks have helped with managing stress levels. I know it did for me last year on my move.

Conchalea? How is your packing going? I forgot when your move date will be. Hope things are going well for you, too...

cherrybsixty 03-08-2020 02:50 AM

Thanks Teen, I knew you could relate because of your recent move and you had some gorgeous things that you have finished since then. One of my adult grands flew in and 'Surprised' me and she has helped in motivating her Geeg. I am loving that she is here for a few days. We pick up her brother yesterday and we got a few more things sorted out. She is taking some high school yearbooks back home with her and one of my better church dresses that I really can't wear anymore. Her brother found some ball caps that really belong to him. Their mother called last evening to check on our progress. She lives in Georgia also.

Well, I didn't get to make that seam last night, so I better aim for it this morning before church.

Happy sewing day everyone

cherryb

I think my picture problem is due to a full hard drive on my laptop. In the mean time, I'm uploading on hubby's computer.
The first pic is the Eric Carle "10 Little Rubber Ducks" book theme, then two quilts from past Boom Swaps, then a scrap huggy quilt. All were sitting around waiting their turn...

And here is the bed-sized batiks quilt I've been working on for over a year: So that's 5 from me for March!

ckcowl 03-08-2020 10:10 AM

I am almost done with my February UFO. It’s king sized. I have one last town across the bottom to finish quilting and then the binding. I’m going to try out the machine binding with a flange on this one. Hope that goes well. I’ve been watching videos on doing it. I think the next couple UFOs are going to be smaller- easier to finish. At least I am moving along on my stack.

joe'smom 03-08-2020 10:39 AM

sewbiz, wow, you have been busy! All of your quilts are wonderful. I love the busy background on the second boom swap quilt. Congratulations on a fruitful March!

givio 03-08-2020 02:56 PM

SBG, Oh! The feathers and ribbons look really good! Is the batik quilt one you're going to keep? I like the wavy line quilting too on the Boom quilt. Sometimes a simple approach is just as neat looking as something more intricate.

sewbizgirl 03-08-2020 04:20 PM

Thanks, everyone. Yes, the batik one is the keeper. It's on a bed now... The one with the wavy lines was supposed to be a donation quilt, but I love how it turned out! It will have to stay around for a while so I can look at it! The blocks were made by the various swappers of the Boomerang swap... I only made two or three of them, myself.

I agree about the wavy lines. As long as you keep the lines a consistent width, you create good texture. It can be a hot mess and still look good, overall.

Teen 03-08-2020 05:32 PM

Fabulous finishes, Sewbiz... I'm with joesmom....I love the patterned BG on Boom #2... Your quilting skills grow with each quilt you share. The feathers look amazing and the framed quilting you did around your 9-P is perfect touch. That quilt is stunning.

Cheering you on, ckcowl! King size are monsters so I applaud your deligence...and, once you try flange binding, you'll want to do more. It's super easy and quick once you get going...

retiredteacher09 03-08-2020 06:06 PM

sewbizgirl: Congratulations on your 5 wonderful finishes. Eric Carle is my favorite children’s author.

ckowl: Looking forward to seeing your February UFO when it’s finished.

I should have a quilt top finished this week.

Thank you so much for that encouragement, Teen.

The background fabric you two like so well was actually my "focus fabric". Each swapper could add their own solids and make any kind of block they wanted. I think because I ended up joining the blocks without sashing, it looks like a background. It was a Waverly clearance fabric from walmart for $1 a yard! And so pretty!

I'm still learning how to use my Juki sit down machine...

Thank you... I made a Hungry Caterpillar quilt for my granddaughter before that one:

oksewglad 03-09-2020 06:43 AM

SBG you get so much done....love your latest finishes, too. The wavy one has some unusual color combos. I've been working on color presentations for our guild, consequently really noticing color! I want to work on exploring color on my own and get out of the "safe" combos I often use.

I haven't pulled out a UFO for March yet...guess i had better so I can get one done! Keep it up folks!

Teen, thanks for thinking of me. I'm going from a 3- bed, 2-bath house to a 2-bed, 1-bath house. I'm not buying anything other than food, because I don't want to move it! I've given away Lots of stuff but it looks like nothing has gone out. I close on this house 4 weeks from today, or earlier if I can get out sooner. My new place is in a small town 200 miles north, still in TX. The town I'm in has almost 120,000 people & the entire county where I'm moving has just over 18,000. Quite a change! I get something done each day & the end may be in sight.

You have been busy, Sewbiz! I too love the batik one.

retiredteacher09 03-09-2020 06:31 PM

sewbizgirl: I like that caterpillar one too. One of the Kindergarten teachers where I am a substitute teacher used some of her Scholastic book points to buy me a hardcover/hard pages set of Eric Carle books. There were 4 or 5 of them in the set. I have read 2 to my baby grandson already.

Good luck, Conchalea! You are on the home stretch. I moved from a city of 324,000 to 6,500 population. It's fantastic....I Love that the grocery store checkers and bank tellers know my name and greet me. And that lovely group of old-timer farmers who meet every morning for an Egg Mcmuffin and coffee invite me to join them when I come in. It's lovely..truly. I wish the same for you. Hang in there...

So sweet, Connie. My hubbie and I were just talking today about our favorite childhood books read to us by parent/grandparent. My fav was Thumbelina and my Nana could really get into the character voices. Such wonderful memories you are making.

QuiltMom2 03-10-2020 03:48 AM

Only progress on my second big UFO of the year is I have gathered the excess blocks together to sew a strip to enlarge the backing just a bit, need a couple strips of some fabric to go on the sides of the pieced strip to widen the back just a bit more then add borders to the top. I've also progressed to the point I have most of the backing/border fabric. It just sits in my sewing room and stares at me!!

Conchalea 03-10-2020 05:32 PM

SBG, thanks for the good wishes. Of the quilts you've shown, the Caterpillar/Butterfly is my favorite. I may piece a butterfly after seeing your beauty

Hurray I finished the binding on the February ufo- it was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my son, instead it’s going to be a birthday gift- his bd is March 20.
I also managed to get a butterfly quilt quilted for a lady in our sewing group. Now- on to March. My March ufo is smaller- should have time to get it done.
one picture of my finished quilt- other pictures are a new post In pictures along with patterns information

oksewglad 03-11-2020 10:35 AM

Great coordinating colors...ckcowl...lovely quilting, too.

Teen 03-11-2020 02:42 PM

Beautiful, ckcowl... Your son should love this. Great use of block design and colors for this panel. Did you design the layout for this? Looks amazing...

I hope to get my UFO and WIP from quilter by this weekend. Fingers crossed. Then I can drop off to the quilter the Elk panel quilt for my cousin. Also, a WIP. Meanwhile, still working on a 2-year old kitted project.

ckcowl 03-11-2020 02:53 PM

Teen, yes I figured out the layout, combining the two very different patterns to create a king sized quilt. It was fun to figure out the layout. And it was my first machine binding with a flange. I think I will be doing that again. I’ve always hand stitched my binding to the back after stitching to the front. But it is becoming difficult, my arthritis in my fingers complains about my hand stitching.

WMUTeach 03-11-2020 05:17 PM

Beautiful work, ckcowl. The quilt is lovely and your workmanship is to be admired.

sewbizgirl 03-11-2020 09:14 PM

ckcowl, wow! What a gorgeous quilt for your son. Colors and design are beautiful, and your quilting is outta the ballpark! How could he not love that?!

joe'smom 03-12-2020 07:42 AM

ckcowl, that is a beautifully done!

Such awesome quilts! Lots of stuff going on since I was able to post last, posting from the Kindle is tricky. I decided to switch gears today, Tuesday I was trying to put borders on a UFO and measured then cut wrong.:( border was 1 inch short! So I put it aside to clean my sewing room yesterday and found a project that is a few years old. The memory quilt is already with Meredith but the pillows never got finished. Before I started the borders again I wanted a quick kill.
2 pillows Finished!!!

sewbizgirl 03-12-2020 08:27 AM

Dedemac, the pillows are awesome! Those lions surely wouldn't be a 'quick kill' for me.... They are Celtic, no? What country do they represent... Ireland?

rryder 03-12-2020 02:25 PM

Wow, lots of finishes!
Congrats Sewbiz -I like them all, but the caterpillar is probably my favorite.
CKcowl- that's gorgeous. I always struggle with what to do with panels, you've done a great job of combining the panel with the blocks and the quilting brings it all together. He's going to love it.
Dedemac-cool pillows and great way to take a break from an oops moment.

I'm behind on my March UFOs- I got involved in doing the Helen Godden 2017 BOM and then had a tooth pulled last Thursday, so lost some time. Anyway, I think I've decided on the next step for one of the UFOs so I'll work on it some tomorrow.

Rob

Dedemac 03-12-2020 04:22 PM

The lions are Celtic, and were all ready embroidered all I had to do was size the fronts and make the backs. Meredith's father was very involved in highland dancing and Scottish highland games.

retiredteacher09 03-12-2020 04:34 PM

Dedemac: Great finishes!

I am still plugging along on my scrappy quilt top. I hope to finish it yet this week.

sewbizgirl 03-12-2020 09:10 PM

Ouch Rob! Hope that tooth pull doesn't give you any trouble and heals up well.

Bugaroo 03-13-2020 05:07 AM

I've been so into the Boom24 that I fell behind with my UFOs. So I am playing catchup!!

I finished this table topper for my son. I had been waiting on finding enough winner dog prints and thanks to this lovely Quilting Board community, one less UFO for me!!!

Rff1010 - love your purples and blues. So bright and cheerful!

Belfrybat - ! You go girl!!!!

WMUTeach - I've not done a red/white/blue quilt but I've been collecting fabrics to remedy that! We might need a UFO type stash posting.

Teen - Such beautiful colors and details.

Sewbizgirl - my! Those ducks are adorable and as a teacher, I the counting aspect is wonderful!

Qussum - Love your color contrast! So pretty
