Sweet finish, Teen!

retiredteacher09 09-21-2020 05:28 PM

Awesome finish, Teen! Your cousin will be thrilled with it.

joe'smom 09-22-2020 08:37 AM

Teen, that is so beautiful and happy! I guess you would call that a half-rectangle triangle unit?

Teen 09-22-2020 03:07 PM

Thanks everyone!! I made.a label for it today and hope to ship it next week in time for birthday.

joesmom...I have no idea what the block is called. I just measured out the size so I could use the entire layer cake. It worked since there is nothing left of it. You could alter the direction of the cut on half of the rectangles and the layout would be a diamond pattern. I didn’t think of that until it was all cut...lol.. good way to use an entire layer cake.

Nice finishes here! K completed the last top from her daughter's collection, so now she's sewing string blocks. This makes 4 UFOs we've finished for September & 28 since June. A local woman will pick up another load of quilts to hand out to needy residents when cold weather arrives. Our first day of fall was cloudy & cool, with some drizzle.

WMUTeach 09-22-2020 05:10 PM

I am starting to collect UFO's again but with cause. I have three tops ready to layer and quilt but since COVID, I have not been able to use the large tables in my guild's meeting place to lay out quilts. Crawling about the floor, well, it just doesn't work any longer for my knees. So, my closet now has hangers of quilts/back/batting hanging and waiting. I do sandwich small quilts on my quilt wall, a sheet of insulation with a flannel cover, and that works well. Just need a larger space for my bigger quilts. Whine, whine, whine! Shame on me. This doesn't mean I don't have other unfinished UFO's https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wave.gif only that I can't get the finished tops to the next step. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif

Rff1010 09-23-2020 08:48 PM

I made a decision to drop a top off at my favorite longarm lady instead of quilt it myself. I'm not being lazy... I'm supporting a small business! Best part is she does binding also so when you drop it off it comes back DONE.
Pictures when it comes back.

oksewglad 09-23-2020 08:56 PM

Got stuck on the baby quilt...need fusible for the applique and forgot to buy some at work yesterday.

Home today with several irons in the fire. + 8 quarts of applesauce that I'm going to put in the freezer yet tonight. Cooked up a big batch of soup bones and stew meat in the crockpot overnight. So have a huge kettle of beef barley soup simmering on the stove. In between I've been quilting on my stars in the news UFO quilt...a couple of hiccups so guess it will not get finished today...Work T&F. Shop hop going on so really busy at the shop and tired when I do come home. Night all....

I'm joining late! UFO reduction has been my main theme this year, except I was foolishly doing it all alone these past months. In April I realized I had 17 quilts in progress (the oldest was ~20 years old) and was running out of space to work because of the piles. So I have been on a project-starting moratorium since then.

And you know what? I'm down to 14 UFOs now. One of those three took a long time to finish. I'm still not faithful to one project; when I'm in the mood to piece, I piece, albeit on one of the already in-progress quilts. I want to get down to 8 UFOs before I start anything new. It's so hard to resist!

(I'll reacquaint myself with how to include pictures later. It's late.)

rryder 09-30-2020 05:08 AM

Glad you found us, entangled!

oksewglad 09-30-2020 06:53 AM

Welcome entangled! Good for you on getting 3 quilts done. Keep up the good work!

Conchalea 09-30-2020 10:26 AM

Entangled, it's never too late to join the UFO group. They can show up at any time. This board is used by some people to prevent new UFOs from appearing. I'm glad you've joined us.

cherrybsixty 09-30-2020 01:39 PM

Welcome to the UFO train Entangled, you have found the right spot, we look forward to seeing what ever you got to show us.

I just got word that a new great grand is due in 20 days, I guess 'GiGi' is the last to know and I handle the needle. I got an UFO baby bid that I started hand embroidering about seven or eight years ago that just might get gifted to them, since I'm the last to be informed
,
I guess those aprons are back on the back burner again, twenty days is not a lot of time

Stay safe everyone, welcome again Entangled

Three Cheers for you Entangled! You have a plan and we will be here to help you stick to it. I suspect that everyone on this thread has a plan that fits there own situation. I aim for one a month, others dive in and do three or four in a row. Jumping from UFO to UFO will feed your need to create or cut or stitch but still work on whittling down your pile. Whoo Hoo!. Post photos as you finish or as you make progress. We love to see each others work.

I just finished a top with 48 blocks of 72 from my Summer Moon UFO. I made the insides of the blocks during our Friday classes last summer at a LQS. Then it took me a while to frame them according to the pattern. I knew I wouldn’t be happy with all of the light backgrounds when I was making it so I decided to use sashing instead of setting the blocks side by side. It’s 69.5” by 80” and will go into the church donation pile for our group to finish some day (or maybe just me if we can’t meet soon).

retiredteacher09 09-30-2020 05:08 PM

Welcome, entangled. We look forward to pictures of your UFO projects.

cherrybsixty 09-30-2020 06:40 PM

Retiredteacher, I am loving that sampler, such a great job, but may I ask??? What happens to the remainder of the 72 blocks???

Stay safe everyone

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, everyone! My next UFO target is a lap blanket that I started ~17 years ago. Bear paw blocks on point. I'm handquilting this one, but it's taking forever because ... I don't work on it often. Hm. I need to incentive this somehow.

entangled 09-30-2020 07:24 PM

Beautiful piecing, retiredteacher09!!! Someone is going to love getting that quilt one day.

rryder 10-01-2020 03:07 AM

Neat sampler, Connie.

I’m stiiiiiill working on the big butterfly. It is a formidable adversary-but I refuse to be defeated by a lepidoptera...stay tuned.

Your comment above may me smile. I learned quickly to keep the hand quilting project near my living room chair. When I settle in for a movie, I grab my hand quilting piece and away I go. Can dedicate my other sewing time to working on another UFO. For me this works and I get two or sometimes three projects done in the same amount of time. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif

retiredteacher09 10-01-2020 04:49 PM

cherrybsixty: Thanks and I have 20 more on my design wall in a diagonal setting. I need to make the side setting and corner triangles yet. The last 4 blocks will go into a quilt top with orphan blocks and/or cut squares from my church group.

entangled: Thank you. I wish I enjoyed handwork. I used to do some cross-stitch, embroidery, crocheting, and knitting. One day, I hope to try some big stitch quilting.

Thanks, Rob. I know you can tame this Lepidoptera,

Sweet sampler, retired teacher.

entangled 10-02-2020 07:51 PM

That would be ideal, WMUTeach! My house is still chaos, with two teens who are lovely about snuggles still, but it means I have no personal space. (Also, I am infamous for causing injury to my family because I've left out craft supplies; two of us have been impaled by knitting needles!)

I re-learned how to size and upload my photos for this platform. Voila, here are my three finishes for 2020:

Ooo..... I love that bear! Super cool.

WMUTeach 10-03-2020 04:09 AM

Good work, Entangled. Keep pressing forward. Your space will clear out eventually and leave you feeling terrific, accomplished and empowered! Wink, wink!

joe'smom 10-03-2020 09:54 AM

Pretty quilts, entangled!

Sync 10-03-2020 10:26 AM

Lovely finishes, entangled.

cherrybsixty 10-03-2020 10:33 AM

Lovely finishes Entangled, question: how did you get the pictures to adapt to regular size?

Not getting much accomplished today

Stay safe everyone

entangled 10-03-2020 02:27 PM

Thanks so much, everyone! It feels good to share with other quilters. It's been too long.

Cherrybsixty, I'm not sure if I know the right answer, but this is what I did. I uploaded the pics to an album in my QB profile using my laptop (and three attempts at resizing before the files were the right size to be allowed). In the album, you can click on the photo and get a URL. I copied that URL and when I chose Insert Image in my post, there's a place to paste the URL and see the image preview, which takes a beat to appear. I just messed around until stuff worked -- hopefully that will work for you too! Let me know.

entangled 10-03-2020 06:52 PM

Thanks, Rob!

retiredteacher09 10-03-2020 07:00 PM

entangled: Very pretty quilts! I went into my profile to find the album. I will need to try your method of getting them to load. I always get just the thumbnail picture. Thanks for the info.

entangled 10-04-2020 06:23 AM

Thanks! And you're welcome! I experimented with success this morning using an app on my phone to size down a photo, then load it to my album and post it. Pictures are fun so I felt determined to figure it out.

I love seeing pictures of everyone's quilts. So... I'm going to try to post two quilts I recently finished and donated to our
county chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. This is an organization that makes beds and gives to children who have
no bed of their own. This is one of our guild's charity projects.

QuiltBaer, those are very nice quilts. They will certainly warm the heart of a child in need.

Loving your pix QuiltBaer and such gorgeous work

Entangled thanks for the advice on the pix and looking forward to your other pix
