Congratulations Vasilisa and oksewglad on your finishes.

I hope you are starting to feel better, oksewglad. 🙏

Another board member sent me her UFO to finish and donate. I changed the pattern to fit my church quilting group’s favorite size. It’s just a top and will be set aside for my church group to finish. The 4 remaining blocks will be used in different quilt tops.

70.5” by 80.5” UFO top finished:

Hope you are feeling better, Oksewglad.

Vasilisa .... congrats on the finish...I’ll go check it out... and glad you got your quilting mojo back!

retiredteach... you amaze me with how quickly you can whip these tops out. This is really cool!

mcadwell 12-18-2020 03:23 AM

Retiredteacher - Nicely done on the quilt. Love the color scheme and pattern - it would go well with a lot of different decor themes.

jmoore 12-18-2020 03:49 AM

Rob, your butterfly is truly a work of art...fabulous finish.

oksewglad, thank you for the block idea and I totally could relate to your panto issue as that happened to me earlier this year when I was doing a quilt for a friend. 😏

Teen, I am so envious that you completed all your Christmas sewing and UFOs. It must be a wonderful feeling to be able to start a new project...

mcadwell 12-18-2020 04:09 AM

I'm envious of all of you that completing your UFO's! Kudos to you-dos!! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

(I'm in an RA flare (again) so my sewing is going at the speed of a frozen snail and my WIP's and UFO's (I have 4 of 'em now) might be done by the time a real UFO lands.)

With everything that's going on, it feels facetious to say 'Have a Merry Christmas everyone' but I'm going to say it anyway - Have a Merry Christmas!!

Conchalea 12-18-2020 04:20 AM

K & I may have some UFOs to report soon because her daughter came in for the holidays, bearing more tops! She wants to take 2 completed quilts back when she leaves on the 28th, so we'd better get cracking! The others will most likely be finishes in 2021. The tops have been completed for a while, apparently, so they qualify as UFOs. I'll post as we work on them.

rryder 12-18-2020 04:34 AM

Oksewglad, Vasilisa and Retiredteach- congratulations on your finishes. It is inspiring to see what everyone is doing and how folks are handling their ufos.

Hope you’re feeling better oksewglad.

Conchalea- you and your friend are amazing- good job on taking on more UFOs!!!

I started the year with 33 UFOs and am now down to 20 or 21 thanks to the encouragement offered on this thread. I probably will never be someone who has no UFOs, so I’m very thankful for this challenge as it helps me keep them from taking over the world https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png.

And thanks for all the kind words on the Big Butterfly. My reward for finishing it and meeting my goal of completing 12 UFOs this year was to start one new project and I chose to take a class on painting with dyes that Helen Godden was offering on facebook. I have just started it, so probably won’t work on any more UFOs till we start the new thread in Jan.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah everyone!

Rob

...

Thanks...I think my laser light was loose and had moved out of place as I went across the quilt on the second to the last row. I ripped out about half of the row where it started to go off course and plan to putting it back on the frame for a redo...that will have to wait til next week.

joe'smom 12-18-2020 07:19 AM

oksewglad, I hope you are 100% soon!

retiredteacher, wow, lovely finish!

Rob, 33 to 20 is great progress! Woo-hoo!

Conchalea 12-18-2020 03:15 PM

Rob, your UFO tally is great! So many of us on this thread have completed impressive amounts of UFOs during this ultra-trying year. I guess self-isolation is good for something.
It turns out K's daughter doesn't expect us to finish the tops she brought by the time she leaves, so we may hold them until 2021. K wants to spend time with her, since she lives in Wisconsin & this is her 1st trip home in a year or more. Plus, I'm finishing the year with my RWB stars not finished. A UFO that will still be there for me in 2021.
If everyone is ok with it, I'll start the new year's thread near the 31st.

WMUTeach 12-18-2020 05:18 PM

Retired, you work with those blocks is beautiful. The colors are so rich and what a nice balance in the whole quilt.

Rob, I am proud of you finishing 12 UFOs. I didn't keep a good tally of how many I have finished but I do have fewer than when we started. Just took on to the a long arm quilter because it is to big for me to wrestle under my machine. I am assuming it will be returned to me between Christmas and New Year's, so I will get one more finish in 2020 for sure and possibly a second. Whoopity Do! I can see 6 more UFO's with out searching hanging in my closet. Just thought of another. Seven to start out the year. That sounds reasonable and doable for 2021. No again, 8! I forgot the unfinished Farmer's Wife. Tee-Hee! Back to one a month I guess for 2021. See you all after the Christmas Holiday or maybe before. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...s/confused.png

It’s an awesome feeling and enough motivation for me to finish what I start. The reason I participate in this thread..it keeps me in check!

I finished another quilt top yesterday (WIP) except for borders. Applique & piecing using a FQ bundle I have had for over a year. Took me 2 weeks to make since I was busy in between with Christmas stuff. Now, that felt good to break that FQ open. Ended up using most of it but maybe 4 out of the 36 FQ’s...then cut up the balance in usable sizes. I’ll share a picture when borders are on. It was a blast to make.. Then, I can start the next project...yah!

Merry Christmas, friends! Be safe and we’ll see you on the 2021 thread. Thank you, Conchalea...the 31st sounds good.

oksewglad 12-19-2020 06:16 AM

It has been a successful year for many of us, hasn't it? I for one feel that ever time I finish a UFO, I try to change my mindset as i start new projects...finish them instead of letting them linger! May we all inspire to be more like Teen!

Conchalea, thanks for hosting the thread and for stating a new one. Nice to know when to look for the new thread. I hope to get pictures this weekend, so I will be posting before NY's.

Teen 12-19-2020 05:57 PM

Lol@ oksewglad..... I promise you that the feelings associated with start/finish - No UFO’s is an amazing feeling. Kind of like what you feel like when you actually finish a UFO. Awwwww...accomplishment. Another rule for me is not have more then 2 WIP’s going at the same time. That keeps me motivated since I can bounce between the projects for variety. My albatross is pattern collecting. Ugh! So many beautiful quilts I want to make...

Rff1010 12-19-2020 11:24 PM

Finished 2 last week.
1) Susannah quilt block. It was supposed to be for my nephew. But the final product was SO NOT a 19 yr boy. I chose some lovely soft browns, earthy greens rust and a viney leafy print that tied everything together. Final product was spectacular - but not a young man's quilt. I gave it to a friend at work who has been a stable and constant support during Covid. (Sometimes I felt like the world was falling apart - which it is!- but she would talk me off the ledge). She was so happy she cried. I know it will have a happy and appreciated home with her.
2) most definitely not a UFO - but I awoke from a dream over Thanksgiving weekend with an idea for a quilt for some friends. Some strips - boom. Top done. Quilted w simple curved lines that added such delicious movement. Can't get over how much I like that simple quilting on the simple quilt. I'm really having a love affair with my walking foot.

I like the pattern so much I'm going to raid stash for more big prints and supporting players in the new year and make some Project Linus.

A finish after a long absence

2 Attachment(s)
Its been since March since I have posted. Sorry for the long absence, I have been faithfully reading the posts and have been enjoying reading everyone's success. I do have finally have a finish that I became a UFO this year.

To use Oksewglad and Quossom's format, this is my finish.

The Quilt - I'm going with the original name of the pattern by Brenda Plaster Tumbling Jacks the original post is here https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...lt-t311629.htm way back on 7/4/20. At that time I was just finishing up my treatments.

Why it became a UFO Back March when I kind of disappeared from the internet I was diagnosed with stage 1B breast cancer the day before our 39th anniversary on March 21. I started my chemo on April 2nd and for the next 4 months I was getting treatments every 3 weeks. We also had Covid-19 happening at the same time, fortunately DH was still working and we had awesome insurance. My energy was low and the idea of trying to sew or anything that required thought was out of the question. I had finished the top back in February I think and sent it to Brenda for quilting. She returned it to me and it has sat folded up in the sewing room. since. Connecting Threads finally posted the pattern and I was able to show it in July but it did not have the binding.

Why I finished it and it's fate, I have finished all my treatments, the surgery and follow up radiation and am starting to feel almost normal so just before Thanksgiving I cut the binding and attached it to the quilt. I have been stitching it down in the evenings. I did it to celebrate the ending of my treatments and the fact that the doctors have said that they can't find any cancer and I am a Survivor! During this time when I felt well enough we would go to WI and spend time at a neighbors cabin. Neighbor in WI that is, we purchased property outside of Ladysmith WI and DH has been clearing trees to get ready for our cabin and future retirement house. This quilt is for our cabin, with luck will be up in 6 months!

Vasilisa 12-29-2020 06:26 AM

It is not the end of year yet, but I know I am not going to achieve another finish, so I can as well make a summary of my UFO (and other) progress in 2020.

I started the year with 5 UFOs and some plans to make new quilts as well. I finished 4 UFOs, the one I did not finish is already a super-UFO, since it was started in 2018. I wonder why it takes me so long to be done with it, it is nothing special, just Arkansas Crossroads made from scraps (plus new fabric for background). I did make some progress on it, however, so I hope to finish it finally this winter.

There are also 4 projects that have been started this year. 3 are quilts, 1 is a set of chair seat covers. Since in 2021 they will be already "last year's stuff", so they will count as UFOs for me.

So the plan for 2021 is: finish the Super UFO, finish the remaining 4 UFOs. I hope I will manage that in the first half of the year. Then I hope to organize myself with making new quilts in such a way that I am not left with anything from 2021 for 2022.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

petthefabric 12-29-2020 11:41 AM

Vasalisa, you go girl. The last time I had no UFO's was the year I started quilting, um, maybe 30 yrs.

Teen 12-29-2020 12:02 PM

Great goals, Vasalisa...! You did good for the year, too!

LOL@petthefabric...

Karamarie 12-30-2020 02:32 PM

carriem -could you please share with me what kind of interfacing you are using.

Teen 12-30-2020 06:06 PM

I prepped backing and batting for my most recent quilt and it is ready for LA’er. She has 2 of mine already so when I pick those up, I’ll deliver that one and, hopefully, the King quilt I should have complete tomorrow. Still no UFO’s but my LA’er bill will be crazy since I’m doing 2 mysteries right now, as well. We’ll see what these look like and I may just quilt them myself on domestic..

I love my walking foot....it's quilts so true.
Simple quilting lines...it can do!
Then the quilt is done...doo-be-doooo!

Hahahahaha......alrighty then...I have a plan..

WMUTeach 12-31-2020 04:05 AM

My attack on my UFO's for 2020 has come to an end. I leave the year with at least 7 ready to finish in 2021 and there may be more lurking in hidden places trying to hide out for a few more months. What will I be doing this New Year's Eve? I will be adding the binding to a UFO. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png See y'all next year same place, same goal of getting those UFO's off my "To Do List".

mcadwell 12-31-2020 04:34 AM

I am going to try to finish my quilted yoga mat bag today.I've been quiet on here because of an RA flare and I've done little to no sewing. If I don't get it done by tonight, can I ask for a 3 week sewing extension of 2020? https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

BTW, does anyone else's computer see the posts by 'her' as garbled or is it just me?

I also see garbled posts just before yours & WMUTeach's posts. The board's format seems to have changed, & maybe that messed up some posts.
Between K & me, we completed 30 UFOs this year. We wont be that productive again since many of what we completed were years old from hear daughter's closet. No more hide in there now, & we only have 4 tops from her to complete in 2021. I will roll into the new year with 1 quilt I cut out just before I packed my old house to move, & another I've planned since last Feb for this new house. I have all I need for this quilt, except a definite pattern. In the meantime, I have 2 quilt tops in progress. I should have all day to sew today, because our temps are right at freezing point & it's raining. No driving on icy roads for me! I'll be in all day.

Teen 12-31-2020 10:59 AM

Well done, Conchalea.....and you appeared to have a blast with K in the process. To me, that is what really counts..

WMUteach....you done good, too! You’ll probably be the first UFO for 2021...woohoo!

mcadwell....hope the RA improves for you. That is nasty pain. Just a bit at a time and rest the hands....

Happy New Years, my lovely friends! I pray this coming year is safe and productive for you and that the separation from your loved ones diminishes with each day! Hugs!

petthefabric 12-31-2020 03:47 PM

Well, I finally finished a UFO. And just in time for 2020. All quilting got backed up due to need for a part for LA.
The quilt finished was from a guild class in nov of 2018.
The next UFO has 1 pass on the LA done and I'm planning to go out and finish it now. It's almost 4PM here, so there's still 8 hours. Although I could start celebrating now because it's 2021 somewhere. Break out the champagne.

Conchalea 12-31-2020 03:49 PM

I will post for 2021's UFO Challenge after I complete this post. I hope we can all power through even more UFO's tucked away in closets or on back shelves, or deep in storage totes. Happy New Year's, every one!
