Ta-Da! I finished a UFO today. This is an exchange block quilt from 2011. I finished it today, label and all. The backing, batting and sashing were all from stash which makes this an even better finish!

My second UFO, a baby quilt for my great-nephew due in September, is finished! I used a quilting foot for the blue & white log cabins to make triangles. I thought triangles would be a nice contrast to the square blocks. Then I spent time practicing swirls on a pillow top, and did FMQ on the borders. Practicing first, as suggested by Pat Sloan, really helped. None of the swirls has eyelashes, which mine have had in the past.

Hey all,
Here's my July UFO finished! It's been sitting around since 2012 unfinished because the blocks wouldn't line up, but I decided that for a snuggle quilt, it didn't matter--- ! Measures about 48" x 60". Rob 115 through June, 119 through today. As always, PM me if I missed anything. Most importantly, a big congratulations to NZ quilter. 🤱 |
Wonderful cuddle quilt, Rob!! Well done! Great stash buster, too!
|
rryder: Great UFO finish!

Rob, your quilting inspired me, as always.
NZquilter, congratulations on your news! My friend, K, & I have been busy. I'll post pictures later, as we're due to take them today. Last week, with my help, she put the binding on a green & beige quilt her daughter pieced years ago. Then we tackled a big project. A yellow, black, & gray quilt in the stack had a back & batting but wasn't quilted. It was bulky & heavy, but the top was striking. We dragged it downstairs & examined it. It had been partially tied with yellow cotton yarn & had 2 layers of batting. We took it apart as K doesnt like tied quilts plus it was much too heavy for the weather here. Her daughter had laid small pieces of batting around the big ones to make up the full size, but hadn't sewn any together. The quilt was also what I considered an odd size, 72" by 102". Her dad is 6 ft 6in, so maybe it was a sleeping bag for him! We decided to deconstruct it & took 4 rows off the long end, resewed them to the width, & reattached the borders. I cut binding strips & K sewed that on. It is now 81" by 89" & we worked on it Tues- Saturday. It's now washed & ready to be donated. That's 2 UFOs from her upstairs closet completed! This week I put the binding on a baby quilt UFO for a friend, so that's 3 UFOs K & I have finished in 1 week. I almost feel like I have a full time job again! But we have such a blast together, collaborating on the best way to finish the quilt tops, plus K is loving quilting & binding! She thinks piecing may be too fussy for her taste, but shes now practicing FMQ. I may have shown her her true passion. |
Will be waiting for those pictures, C.!

Good afternoon everyone, Conchalea, I am loving you and K's story. Seeing that friendship just growing with the art. Keep enjoying
Stay safe cherryb |
Wow, 7 already in July! Conchelea, you may be going for the one month record, and creating a new quilter.

There are still 17 or so tops in K's guest closet. We now call that room the quilt top room. There also seems to be piles of various beige fabrics which we hope to use for backings. I may develop a serious aversion to that color! |

Here is the reconstructed quilt.
|
Great reconstruction, C. Can't tell that it wasn't originally intended to be that size. I like the color scheme with grays, highlighted with yellow and black. Good job!
|
Love the reconstruction, Conchalea!
Rob |
Very impressive, Conchalea!
|
Conchalea, lovely reconstruction quilt.
|
Great reconstruction! I’m so glad you have a sewing buddy in your new town.
|
Thank you all for the comments on our latest completed UFO. Retired, I'm also glad K has discovered she loves to quilt. We met each other about 25 years ago through our science teaching. We've been getting in trouble together for 2.5 decades!
|
Good evening everyone, Conchalea, loving your work, you and K keep up the good work
Stay safe cherryb |
Great quilt Conchalea!
|
Keep the finishes coming! I'm hoping to finish a couple before they are in UFO status!
|
Conchalea: I knew you were previous friends but not for 2.5 decades! We are never too old to find new adventures.
|
Retired, who knew we would both love quilting? I'm glad we do, because we completed another UFO today! Last week we made a baby quilt & diaper bag from start to finish in 2 days so I could deliver it to my sister-in-law. She bought the fabric so it's not a UFO. She loved both, & was surprised by the bag. We had enough left over fabric to make 1, so we went for it. I coached Kathy through it because I have lost the pattern in my move. While she made that I quilted & bound the quilt. We make a good team.
|
Conchalea: Congratulations on finishing another UFO! I just smile when I read your posts about your adventures with your friend because I can feel the joy in your heart.

Finished!
45x60 pattern from Fabric Cafe 3 yard quilts called "sew fast" . assistance from a YouTube by Sew Very Easy. it came out very "spotted" which is why I chose straight line quilting to try and control it...still not sure I succeeded. Fabric is from Robert Kaufman and has all these milk bottle caps. So I'm calling it "The Spotted Cow" quilt. note- pattern calls for 3 yards of backing but I did fine w 2 yards, leftover Fabric B and 2 strips. |
Great quilt, Rff1010! Yes, it is absolutely "dotty," and your quilting did a great job of providing a little contrast to that. I love the style and uniqueness of pieced backs. You've got a fun winner there!
|
Good afternoon everyone, Rff101, loving your pieced back, I've gotten into that lately myself. The last three or four quilts I completed have been with pieced backs. They add more meaning to the quilt I think.
Stay safe everyone cherryb |
Pretty quilt, Rff! Sometimes a simple design is the best choice. It lets the fabric 'do it's thing'.... Fun back, too.
|
Congrats on your finish Rff.
|
Very pretty, rff. I was enjoying reading the logos. And Conchelea and K finished another. Way to go! Almost to double digits. 👏

oksewglad: I’m chuckling over the statement that you have been provided some fodder for your ideas. I guess some farm terms stick with us forever. Lol! |

I have another UFO finished ....... “happy dance”. I started this quilt in 2017 and my niece decided that those were her colors, so this became Fallon’s quilt. Now as soon as I finish putting on the label I can ship it off to her.

Well I am paying the price for cleaning and organizing my sewing room and I have/had three boxes stacked in a corner since I moved 4.5 years ago.First box, re-discovered some family letters from WWII, so coo,l as well as some other family keepsakes and a lot of odds and ends that are not of any value, recycled those. Box two an old dress from my hippie days, a lamp from when I was a child and...............4 UFOs! One is the blocks from a mystery quilt from at least 6 years ago. Blocks done, I think. The second a bag of orphan blocks someone gave me. Third a half square triangle quilt that can be made bigger for Project Linus, sort of an "I Spy" and a sweet pinky pastel baby quilt that needs some borders. Just when I was feeling so proud of only having a couple left. Tee-Hee-Hee! Lesson learned: Beware of boxes with unknown contents. They may be incubators for UFOs.
PS: I haven't had the courage to open the third box.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/shock.png |
That's a great quilt Sync. So happy and colorful!

Sync - great finish!
thank you for all your words of kindness everyone on the "spotted cow". Tomorrows project is to make a gift bag for it. |
Sync, I love the stars with pinwheels in the center! Patterns within patterns are a favorite of mine. I also love the colors.

I checked with my son, see how he was doing with supplies, asked if he needed anything- his reply....” I was hoping things would start opening up, so I could pick up more colors - I don’t want to keep taking all your fabric” I was touched by hos concern. But, assured him, I would have to live to be about 200 to use what I have. 🥴
I packed up a new box for him- 15+ more yards out of my way! he has been very adventurous and enjoying learning new blocks- he even offered to teach me how to make a ( hollow cube) block on Monday. We got together on our phones and he made one along with me- taking me step by step. He’s going to make a great teacher! here’s what he’s been doing ... the lone star one he played with for a few weeks, put it together into a fabulous quilt, now has moved on to tumbling blocks |
CK, your son is doing beautiful work! His skills are progressing rapidly.

Ok, duh— that post was supposed to be on the Fabric Moratorium and somehow I put it here on the ufos- sorry
i have completed a couple more UFOs, my stack is getting smaller. I think I only have 3 left- although I do have a few to bind. I will set aside a day to get those bound very soon. Yesterday’s ufo finish was a table cloth I started 5-6 years ago.. I like it on my table- don’t know why it took me so long to finish it. The quilt is a gift for my uncle- just need that binding now- it waited 5 years to be quilted |
Who cares ck?...all of the pictures are lovely and some fine finishes!
