Love that quilt for your uncle, ck! The bears and Greek keys are wonderful!

joe'smom 07-22-2020 06:45 AM

Sync, a lovely finish! It is always helpful to see what quilting designs people have used.

ckcowl, that is beautiful and looks like a perfect 'man' quilt!

retiredteacher09 07-22-2020 05:51 PM

Sync: Congratulations on a wonderful finish! A win-win situation: A finish and a happy niece.

WMUTeach: Ugh! I can understand why you don’t want to open that 3rd box. How nice you found wonderful keepsakes though.

ckcowl: What a wonderful experience to share with your son. Also, congratulations on your finishes!

Sync 07-22-2020 06:16 PM

Thanks for all the nice comments on my quilt. So far that is #2 done from my UFO pile, I’m hoping to get at least 3 more done before the end of the year.

ckkowl, your son has good color sense and his work is fantastic. Also congrats on your UFO finishes.

cherrybsixty 07-23-2020 06:18 PM

Good evening everyone, Conchalea, looking forward to seeing that other finish that you and K completed

Sync, congratulations on your finish

ckcowl, it's nice to hear stories of another love one taking to the art

Stay safe

This quilt has already been counted for July, but I didn't include a picture. It's dark green & beige, although the beige doesn't show too well.

sewbizgirl 07-24-2020 08:49 PM

Nice and cozy looking quilt, Conchalea. Nice to see your face too!

Sync 07-24-2020 09:21 PM

Conchalea, that looks like a wonderful comfy quilt.

Sync- Lucky niece! Love the interplay of black and bright colors. Congratulations on getting it finished.

Ckcowl- congratulations on both finishes! The table cloth looks great on your table and the patterns in the quilt are amazing. Good job!

Not a finish yet, but an update. I found a number of UFO's this week while cleaning out some boxes in my sewing room. I got after one of them yesterday, Friday. Pressed the top, it was a wrinkled mess, discovered that I did not need to make any additional HSTs. Went to the LQS for a backing for this UFO and small cuts of fabric for another UFO. Layered HST top, with pieced batting, and it is ready to quilt. I looked in my leftover binding bin and Ta-Da! I found binding that matched the backing. So quilt today, bind tomorrow and hopefully have a finish by Monday!

rryder 07-25-2020 06:04 AM

Conchalea- cute quilt, glad you were able to post the photo.

WMUTeach- sometimes finding a forgotten about UFO is a good thing! Looking forward to seeing it.

Well, that's K, who sewed the binding as well as quilted it. Thanks for her, though!

July UFO - finished!

I found this UFO top in a box tucked away in my sewing room last week. After some serious pressing, it was a wrinkled mess, I found it did not need to be made any bigger. Added a back and pieced batting, quilted on Saturday or was it Sunday? I found the binding in my box of binding scraps. Same fabric as the back! Ta-Da saving scraps pays off. This will be a Project Linus donation. Leaving my home along with three others later this week!
This is my July contribution to our UFO project. Don't think I can get another done by Saturday. But have one started. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif

Wmu- you are queen of the HSTs. Nicely done and probably *very* satisfying finish.

cherrybsixty 07-28-2020 08:35 AM

Good morning everyone, WMUTeach what a lovely finish that store-away turned out to be great, that is my favorite a true scrappy quilt, I really want to make one of those for my bed

Stay safe everyone

Nice finish, WMUT!

retiredteacher09 07-28-2020 07:52 PM

Conchalea: Thanks for the picture. K should be proud of her new finishing skills.

WMUTeach: Great scrappy HST quilt. I really need to take the time and match some of my triangles to use in blocks.

Sync 07-29-2020 06:06 PM

Congrats on your finish WMUTeach, it looks great.

Conchalea 07-30-2020 02:08 AM

K & I are currently each working on a quilt which we hope to finish by tomorrow. She's ready to trim & bind a log cabin of her daughter's. It's not a usual LC. No blocks, just I huge continuous top of strips added in the LC manner. It must have been an early top, with many waves in it. Her daughter had no lessons so just sewed fabric she liked. Her seams go from 1/16" to 1/2" and her cutting wasn't always real straight. We've had this before, making for interesting quilting. This time we pinned pleats in a few places which made it much flatter & K sewed them down as part of the quilting. She said it made it much easier than some of the others. I took a new one delivered to us last week & decided to knock out 2 tops in 1 quilt. I used 1 top as the back! The top is bright orange & white, & the other has orange blocks. I'm practicing FMQ on it with my new Baby Lock. I'm almost through with that & will trim & bind today I hope. I'll have our July total tomorrow. I'm at her house from 10 or so until 4, so my cats think I have a job!

rryder 07-30-2020 07:56 AM

Wow, Conchalea- you're on a roll! Sounds like you're having lots of fun too.

Rob

Conchalea 07-30-2020 03:13 PM

Rob, we are having fun. I arrived this morning to find K had trimmed & bound her quilt by herself! Usually she has me trim them. But she was on a roll with the LC & just finished! I had cut & pressed the binding for it before I left. I'm almost through quilting the one I'm working on. It was slower than I hoped today. K wants to bind it, so when I finish quilting, I'll cut the binding & hand it to her. We make a good team. We prepped her next top & the pieces for the back. She also got the 40' by 90" roll of batting she ordered! Many more quilts can be sandwiched now...

Mets quilt - 50x70. Fleece backing.

Actually my SILs UFO/ never started. I started quilting in 2018 and was having so much fun that my SIL said "ok - I'll try it. I want to make a Mets quilt for my father in law" and we worked together on a design - figured out the fabric and bought it....

....And then she.moved to Florida before ever starting the.project. I took the fabric.

And then my particular version of COVID anxiety took over and I decided to just make the darned thing....and here we are.

FYI - Newby quilters and lurkers. This was a nice simple quilt to piece and finish. I hope you can see the quilting pattern. Super easy and fast. Yes you can do it!

NZquilter 07-30-2020 05:31 PM

So many pretty fabrics in your hst quilt, WMUTeach! Nice finish.

NZquilter 07-30-2020 05:35 PM

Great guy quilt, Rff1010! Your straight line quilting is just right for it.

Conchalea 07-30-2020 07:11 PM

Some good finishes for July! I'll have the final count for the UFOs K & I completed by tomorrow. We dug in her daughter's old room today to seek more backing fabric. We found some, too, & brought it & the rest of the tops down to our sewing area. She has a huge table, 8 X 3 feet, built by her husband. We have our machines st opposite ends, on the long sides, so our quilts have the table as support while we work. We use the table to cut binding, trim, & sandwich the quilts. The table sure makes quilting easier.

retiredteacher09 07-30-2020 07:36 PM

Rff1010; Nice save and great quilt!

Sync 07-30-2020 08:13 PM

Rff, wonderful finish ............. can you hear me humming “take me out to the ballgame”

Krisb 07-30-2020 10:39 PM

And here’s what I have for July. Conchelea says she will have a final count today or tomorrow so that will surely Increase the number. 127 year to date and 14 and counting in July. Whoo, whoo!

Isn’t it great when the nieces and neffers say “That’s mine”. It warms your ❤️.

Wonderful rescue. I just found a bubble gum pink top and backing. I wonder if it is possible to tie and bind it by midnight?

45x60 pattern from Fabric Cafe 3 yard quilts called "sew fast" . assistance from a YouTube by Sew Very Easy.
it came out very "spotted" which is why I chose straight line quilting to try and control it...still not sure I succeeded. Fabric is from Robert Kaufman and has all these milk bottle caps. So I'm calling it "The Spotted Cow" quilt.
note- pattern calls for 3 yards of backing but I did fine w 2 yards, leftover Fabric B and 2 strips.

Both of these are great! ✌🏼

way to go, everyone. As always, PM me with corrections.

I have our July total of UFOs completed or out of the house:
1. RWB log cabin baby quilt I started during the early Pandemic days while staying with my daughter
2. A top was given to K's friend when she admired it (be careful about admiring something-it may be yours in the UFO condition)
3. Green & beige quilt with beige back
4. Deconstructed/reconstructed yellow, black, & gray quilt, flannel back
5. Purple birds with a pieced white & purple back
6. Blue & white with flannel back
7.Blue & beige. We named this one Izzy, because we kept saying, "It is what it is" due to Issues of curvy, wavy areas
8. Blue, beige, & white with navy flannel back
9. A small top of squares, forest green, beige, & terra cotta K made into a cushion cover for her patio bench
10. Fall colors log cabin. We call it "But, Hey!" again because we kept saying that as we found ways around issues it had
11. & 12. What we're calling Orange Sherbet with another quilt as the back. Bright, cheerful orange, which I did lots of FMQ on

So, our grand total=12! Plus we made from scratch a baby quilt & diaper bag in 2 days. That was a rushed effort. It was NOT a UFO, so it doesn't count in our total. I also cut, pieced, & sewed the Butterfly top and we sandwiched it. I just have to find time to quilt it! We had about 5 days where we didn't sew at all, but the other 26 were full steam ahead. Of the 22 or so we found originally, and now the 3 new ones her daughter mailed her, we've completed 14 in June & July.

I finished 3 UFO tops this month using many pieced blocks which were in various donations to my church group. The rest were my leftover blocks. They have been added to a box for finishing when we meet again. They are 70” by 80” approximately.

I will PM KrisB.

I think 1-4 were already counted, so adding 8.

Nothing is more satisfactory than rescuing orphan blocks, whether yours or someone else’s.

11 more for July—total of 25 and 138 so far this year. You all rock!

Happy Saturday morning to everyone, Conchalea so proud of the hard work that you and K had put in those UFOs. Let K know that we are praying for a speedy recovery of that fever. You take the day off and kick your feet up and play with the cat.

Everyone that had finishes this month, congratulations

Stay safe
