Cherry: it feels so good. I'd pat me on the back but shoulders would scream and that'd mess up the good feelings.
So I'm set up for the binding. Maybe this straightening will help free my guilty feeling enough so I can concentrate on getting the pictures from my camera into the computer and then post them. I'm making progress getting out of my funk. |
WMUTeach: Great quilt! I like how you have it hanging with skirt/pant’s hangars for a picture.
pettthefabric: I’m glad you are getting out of your funk! I had planned July to be UFO month but got sidetracked. It’s ok though because I am sewing. Still working on using the cut 6” squares from my church group. Lol! |

I now keep a set of these hangers in my stash closet for quilt photo shoots. Actually, I saw someone on this board using hangers and did the Homer forehead slap with a loud Duh!. I used to hang my quilts on an old fence for photos, but I moved to a condo and now it is snap of the hangers then snap, snap of the camera. Works just fine! I like outdoor photos, so out I go to my patio and hook them on my slider window.
Thanks for the extra info. My patio door is on a smaller deck so I will need to think of another space. I saw how Jenny Doan had a rod and some clips hanging on her porch. Both ideas are great food for thought. |
Beautiful finish WMUTeach, congratulations.
Glad you are recovering from your funk, petthefabric. Looking forward to seeing your pics when you get a chance to post them. Rob |

I'm back with a finish!

Hello, all! It's been a while, but finally I have a finish!
The Quilt: I was in a group called The Scrappy Bees. We met every couple of months to exchange blocks, and for the February 2006 (yes, 2006!!!) exchange, we swapped red and pink hearts on white-on-white. Why it became a UFO: I'm not really into red, pink, or hearts, so I put my squares aside, packing them into a box along with the instruction sheet we'd gotten with the exchange, which recommended putting them together into four-heart blocks arranged sort of like large flowers. There they sat until this year's categorization of UFO's and commitment to finish thereof. Why finish? Honestly, I could have given these blocks away, but I got to looking at them and thought, instead of a quilt, maybe I could make something else with them. I'd been wanting a fitted crate cover for my larger dog's crate, and this would be a fun challenge, so why not? The enthusiasm of lockdown was upon me, and I measured and sewed busily! But then came a dark time of being incredibly busy, then a dark time of being incredibly lazy. I still wanted to keep up with my UFO commitment, but each time I glanced at the quilting room and the partially completed panels hanging on the design wall, what had seemed like a "fun challenge" suddenly seemed overwhelming and too hard, and I just wanted to give up and do something fun and easy, but no, I had told myself that I was not going to continue this UFO-ing! When I started to finish something, I was going to finish finishing it, doggone it! So, finally, I managed to get myself in gear. I made masks, but did sections of the crate cover project in between. At some point the "hard parts" were past, and it was like I had struggled up a mountain, reached the summit, and was now able to coast down the other side with a lot more enthusiasm as I got closer to finishing. The bias binding to get around the inner and outer bends was actually fun (did the "giant square sewed into a parallelogram / tube" thing to create a continuous strip of bias binding, and of course I ended up short and had to hastily make some more). Once it was done, I loved it! The quilt's fate: For a heart-spangled project that sat around for 14 years receiving zero enthusiasm, it's funny that now I'm truly feeling the love, and I can't wait until we're able to attend dog events again so that I can show this one off on my dog's crate! |
Great finish, Quossom! You made a nice comfy hideaway out of that crate.
|
What a fun way to use those unloved blocks. Your four-footed friend is most assuredly loved, so why not make snugly hideaway for shows and travel. Great creativity! .
|
Love it, Quossum!
|
Well that's one fancy dog crate cover! You will be the talk of the show circuit. Congrats on a finish, Quossom!
|
Great finish Quossum!
|
Hey Krisb, how did we do in June.
|
Very creative, Quossom! That will be a show stopper. Be prepared for orders from other breeders. Lol..

My second UFO, a baby quilt for my great-nephew due in September, is finished! I completed the quilting in the border & sewing on the binding on Thursday, while sewing with my friend. I used a quilting foot for the blue & white log cabins to make triangles. I thought triangles would be a nice contrast to the square blocks. Then I spent time practicing swirls on a pillow top, and did FMQ on the borders. Practicing first, as suggested by Pat Sloan, really helped. None of the swirls has eyelashes, which mine have had in the past.
|
Conchalea: What a neat way to use the log cabin blocks! It will be a special gift for the little guy. Wahoo to no eyelashes!

June finishes
Before anything else, I need to apologize for my tardiness. Lots of nonquilting stuff going on right now. Fortunately, some of you found time and energy in June to complete UFO’s.
Rff1010 completed a really nice Irish Chain baby quilt finished for a fundraiser early in June, plus her Coat of Many Colors for donation late in the month. Quilters are such generous people! Sewbizgirl got to the end of a Considerable undertaking by putting the last stitches into her Farmer’s wife quilt. That 0ne should really count as 3 or 4–congrats! NZQuilter completed a multicolor Double Irish Chain that I love. From a distance, the color arrangement makes the chains look interwoven. Conchelea has a really cute baby quilt all ready for her first greatgrand in September. Her other finish is a real contribution to quilting. She not only bound A daughter’s quilt for a friend; she also taught the friend how to quilt and bind and her friend finished two more. I am counting them all😊 Ckcowl disposed of 3 UFOs by passing them along to someone else. 5 more have been quilted and are awaiting binding. By my count, that is 11. If I missed something, let me know. |

Conchalea, I really like the quilting you chose for that blue and white quilt. The triangles are cool! Swirls are fun too, and they do get easier with practice.
I made a quilt that I am considering a UFO. I bought all the fabric for it, and pattern, a few years ago... intending to make it a gift for my son. It never got made. For years it's been sitting as a stack of fabrics, carefully chosen, and a pattern. So I tackled it this weekend and got the top made. This is Da Vinci by Jinny Beyer. |
Welcome back, Krisb!
|
Sewbizgirl, the optics in your quilt are great! That type of pattern really attracts my eye. Thank you for the comments on my quilt. I enjoyed the swirls so much. The triangles were a little tedious, but I like how they look.
|
Congratulations on finishing your quilt Conchalea and the top, Sewbiz. Y'all rock!
And Welcome back, Krisb! Rob |
Thank you, Krisb....I love your recap!
Conchalea....i really need to make another log cabin quilt after seeing yours. The quilting design looks awesome. Sewbiz....very cool finish. Looks amazing. I'd be in big doo doo if I counted my kitted projects as UFO's. Maybe I should so I can get motivated to start them. With that said, I did start/finish one kitted project and am now working on another project I kitted awhile ago so I'm getting there. |
Thanks, Krisb, for the update. I hope all is well with you and your family.
sewbizgirl: Awesome finish! Will your son still get the quilt? |
Thanks everyone, for your kind words about my quilt. As for kitted quilts, I counted it because it wasn't a true kit that came with the fabrics all together. I had to hunt them down and order each fabric separately. I consider that labor that I've put in, so the quilt had been "started". Does that make sense?
Not sure if my son will end up getting the quilt. I'll let him see it first and see how he reacts to it. I don't want to just foist it on him and then find out he never hung it up or used it. I'll enjoy it at my house, until he comes for a visit and sees it. |
I really like your FMQ, Conchalea. Very creative and it goes great with the log cabin blocks.
SBG, that counts as a UFO in my books too! I'm sure your son will love it. My UFOs seem to have slowed to a grinding halt. I wish I had more time and energy. But at least I have an excuse why my energy level has tanked: I'm pregnant again!!! We are really excited! I've always wanted a large family. I haven't had my first appointment yet, but according to an online pregnancy calculator, I'll be due in February. I'll need to start another baby quilt. That will be fun! |
Congrats, NZQuilter!! How exciting to have another little one coming. Maybe a boy! Or maybe you will end up with all girls.... sweet!
Very happy for you! |
Congratulations, NZ! So so happy for you and your sweet family... Super exciting!
|
NZQuilter, congratulations on your happy news!
Very interesting finishes, ladies! |
Congratulations NZQuilter, that's wonderful news!!! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

sewbizgirl: I like the idea of waiting to see his reaction.
NZquilter: Congratulations! |

Congratulations, NZquilter!

July Finish!
1 Attachment(s)
Hey all,
Here's my July UFO finished! It's been sitting around since 2012 unfinished because the blocks wouldn't line up, but I decided that for a snuggle quilt, it didn't matter--- ! Measures about 48" x 60". Rob |
Good morning everyone, 'bravo' to you Rob what a nice finish
Stay safe everyone cherryb |
Wonderful finish, Rob! Your quilts always make such strong statement.
|
Love your scrappy spiderweb, Rob! Congrats on finishing it.
|
I think spider webs are particularly appropriate for a cuddly quilt. You do want to be captured by it and all wrapped up in it, right? https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png Beautiful finish!
|
It looks like a wonderful cuddle quilt, Rob! I really like your quilting design too! You have such a good idea for seeing and delivering such nice quilting patterns to complement the quilt.
