Okay...some people have a lot of steam to keep surging forward on UFO pile! Wow Conchalea...I'm tired from reading your accomplishments.
I've been working on a couple of RWB quilts from left over fabrics. Both sets of rail fence blocks were started quite some time ago. I think I can get them finished up this weekend! |

Happy Saturday morning to everyone, Conchalea so proud of the hard work that you and K had put in those UFOs. Let K know that we are praying for a speedy recovery of that fever. You take the day off and kick your feet up and play with the cat.
Everyone that had finishes this month, congratulations Stay safe cherryb |

This studio is getting organizied by finishing project. Got binding on 2, 5 pillow slips. Just quilted 2 UFO's. Since I don't know how long some of this has been buried out in the open, not sure if UFO's all of them. Comfort quilts is doing a collection day Aug 11, so the goal is to all those finished. They're at the quilting stage.

Good job on yuh our rail fence blocks. I've been using RWB squares as leaders/enders. I'll eventually use them in a scrappy RWB quilt.
Just put the last stitch on the 2" (cut) rail fence quilt. It finishes 60 x 72 with the center rail fence "medallion" 48 x 60. |
Ok, I've been sewing the red & white pairs to blue & white pairs to make 4 patches. Each square is 2.5". Unfinished 4's are 4.5" I have no real plan yet, but so far I've been stacking 4 sets of 4 patches together & I'm making sure to always sew a 4 patch with the red square in the upper right. I have vague plans to put 4 of these sets together, rotating them so a consistent pattern shows up. I havent had real time to work on a setup for them since K & I are sewing on all the UFOs. It's just nice to know I'm getting some bonus blocks when they fit in with my current projects.
|
Conchalea, I like the idea of the RWB in four patches. That needs to go on my "to do list". I have a whole bag of RWB that is all scraps that are really too small to use in other ways. I tried. A disaster. But four patches, that I can make work. Thanks for starting my creative juices going on this Sunday morning.
|
I need to start 4-patching up my 2" squares, to do something with them. If we make a quilt from squares we cut years ago, is that a UFO being finished?
|
Sewbizgirl and petthefabric, you define what you think a UFO. 2” squares that have been sitting around for years? I’d call it a UFO. Partially completed tops lost in the chaos? I would say any quilt you put aside, find later, and that makes you say “Ihad forgotten all about that” is a UFO.
|
I agree with Krisb on the UFO theory
Stay safe everyone cherryb |
I'm gonna embrace that theory on UFOs too!
|
On Sat, another friend of K's admired a top of 30's-like fabrics, so out it went with her! That women's husband loved the one K was quilting, Plaid Lad, so it will go to him. Two more completed! We made binding & got it sewn on yesterday. I prepared one I'm calling the Ziggurat quilt due to the blocks looking like like the Mayan structures. K hasn't made a decision on her next one.
|
Last night I decided to make a minor readjustment of furniture in my sewing room. The cutting area was cluttered before I started...now it's not and now to keep it that way. To reward myself I sewed the binding down on 3 long time UFO potholders! A 15 minute job and some extra space in my space...well a little extra space!

Here's the RWB rail fence 2 pieced from 2" scrap pieces started a while ago. I figure about 15% of my fabrics are in the center blocks, the remaining scraps of others. I pulled most of the strips from the 2" bin and cut a few of the gold pieces from larger scraps. It will be passed to the local QOV group for finishing and considered a finish for me. Now to finish up the red dye disaster quilt!
|
oksewglad- very pretty rail fence and with those potholders, you've already got 4 finishes for Aug.! You go!
Rob |
Bravo to Ok, to her four finishes for August and it's only the fourth day of the month. you go girl!!!
I know I keep adding my two-cent worth just to stay in touch with everyone, trying to stay connected until I have my new to me sewing room equipped. I've did a little mask-making and now I'm on to apron-making. Then I'll get some thing in place in the room. There is some plans to do some more things and then I'll pull out a couple projects that was started from before I left Kansas, and I am eager to get back to them Everyone have a productive day and stay safe cherryb |
Finished 2 comfort quilts. Tried to add pic, no success. Will try again later.
|
cherryb, I'm here for the chat, too, until I get a UFO done. This is such a nice group.
|
We have more UFO finishes for August than days have passed i. He month so far—6 so far. Way ti go!

Well, I said the other day that I was here for the conversation, the apron making that I'm getting completed were cut-out years ago, one of them was cut out in 2013 and the other one from 2018, now that one I have finished and I'm working on the 2013. It's a gem, all silver and glittery. It's going to make some girl smile, for sure. Taking my time with that one, cause I want to stir some attention with it.
That all the conversation I can stir up this evening, so y'all stay safe cherryb |

They sound like UFOs to me, too!

I couldn't resist it today, maybe I should have worked on those UFO-aprons, but I had to break out and drive. My DGD and I broke out this house and did a little errand-running. Like she said it felt good to get out in the air for a little while. She doesn't drive yet, only fourteen, I'm looking forward to it. The Mother (DD) is not, but it's got to happen. So, tomorrow I'll buckle down and get back to those aprons.
Stay safe everyone cherryb |
Cherry, who are you making the aprons for? Christmas gifts?
|
cherryb: Good for you that you took a drive with your DGD. We need to keep our driving skills in shape. I know the first time I left our town to venture 10 miles to the next town, my driving skills were a little rusty after 2 months of only going 3 miles to pick up my groceries through the drive through area. Of course, there was construction all over the place so I needed to watch the road signs and lane changes a little more carefully. Lol!

Good evening everyone, Sewbiz, I was going to do a little start-up with making all kind of vintage aprons, a few year back. Before I retired and I cut out a few and would make a few dollars off of it. It didn't take-off like I thought, so they went in a box. I am trying to finish two of them to ship to a dear cousin that lives in Texas. She doesn't sew, but she wants to gift them. I just made two before I moved from Kansas for another friend that gifted them.
Retired, this is all new territory to me, I got to get the lay of the land. But, you are right, I'm not interested in giving up my rights to drive, yet So, tomorrow I will be back to sewing, be safe everyone cherryb |
cherrybsixty: I knew you moved but I didn’t think about you needing to get to know the lay of the land. Are you in a big city?
|
Nearly finished with a UFO that I found hiding in a box. Just need to shop for some yardage for the final sashing, sandwich and quilt. Looks like August will be a good UFO month as well as Fabric Moratorium Month for me. Fingers crossed and needle threaded.
|
Retired, I'm in the Greater Atlanta area, a small community of Buford GA. It's on the same scale as Olathe KS, just the pace is a little faster. I would come over in this area when I would spend the summer with my grandchildren. They lived in Lawrenceville GA then. My bearing are just turned around, I can't get my North from my South. It just feels all different. I get turned around when I go out to Las Vegas to dog-sit with the furr-babies there.
Didn't get too much done today, tried to cook a big dinner, not a great fan of carry-in or dining out. Even before the virus, just rather cook it myself WMUT, love how put that fingers and needles Stay safe everyone cherryb |
WMUTeach, what a pretty quilt in your avatar!
|
K & I completed another UFO yesterday! This wasn't one pieced by her daughter. K bought an unfinished top for her daughter when the girl was 5 or 6. She's almost 42 now! We examined it closely & the seams are machine sewn & look more modern than the applique. Every other block has a kitten in a basket, blanket-stitched with embroidered faces & details. The embroidery thread & fabric for kitties looks older, so we think the original quilter hand sewed all the bright appliques & someone else put the blocks together later. One kitty is machine sewn with a small zig zag stitch. Background is all muslin, so we bought new muslin for the back. We decided to display this quilt, so only faced it. I'm not sure the original fabric would support the weight of batting. Some basket fabric is a flashback to the 60's & 70's! We both recall having similar fabric in our clothes during those eras. So this makes 17 of 24 or so we've completed this summer. It also makes 3 for us this month. We're on a roll!

I lost my avatar when the QB changed about 18 months ago. I just re-added it. The quilt is my variation of Growing Up Odd by Wedding Dress Blue. https://weddingdressblue.wordpress.c...-up-odd-quilt/ I changed the pattern to 2.5 inch squares, and made it much smaller, and chose to to group color families. This particular one was made in 2016. The Birthday Swap Group on the QB is making it currently as a mystery. .

Conchalea, hearing that someone let a top sit for 35 years somehow makes me feel better about my UFOs, LOL. Congratulations on your amazing tally of finishes!
|
Thanks, Joe's mom. K knew her daughter would love the kitties but had no real plan of what to do with it. She found it at an antique shop for $15!
Today we worked mostly on new projects, but did plan backing for a couple of tops yet to be tackled. |
WMUTeach, I love your version of Growing Up Odd.

Vintage Kitties
1 Attachment(s)
Here is the picture of the faced Kitties top. Since it's older, the kitties are a little wrinkled. I love how colorful each kitty and its basket is. Can you find some 60's or 70's fabrics?
|
Yes, WMUT, I like your version of 'growing up odd' pattern also. I'm thinking of mimicking you.
Conchalea, you and K are really the envy of my eye completing that vintage top, I'm really loving it Those UFO finishes are really coming fast this month, bravo to all that is making it happen Stay safe everyone cherryb |
Just finished another comfor quilt 40" x 50" Tomorrow is collections at guild.
|
Cherryb, I love the vintage top, too. It came out looking great. K's husband, who she says has an entire 'house kit'in their garage, found a wooden quilt hanger that goes on the wall. Once it's up, a front board loosens so the quilt can be put in place & the boards tightened to hold it there. I need to clean it so we can hang it for use.
