Barb in Louisiana, is it too late to start sewing? You could do a few of each clue to get going.

KalamaQuilts, it's so great that you had those beautiful string blocks in the right colors!

AmyB, strings are so fun and relaxing -- more fun and easier than strip sets, I would say.

Had a fun day getting strings ready. This was just the thing after those demanding chevrons.

Kalama Quilts and Macy Baby...your yellows look so cheerful that I might just have to throw some in my quilt!
I'm not sure if I will do strings or what yet, probably a strip set.
Great job so far!!!
Barb in Louisiana, it's never too late to start on this mystery...I just print it all out each week and work on my own time.

I rough cut strips around 1/2" longer than needed, then cut them into different widths along with slants - making sure I stayed within a min and max so I'd have at least 4 but not more than 6 per unit when done.

I started with sewing two together to have enough, then pressed and sewed a 3rd, and then a 4th. At that point I checked and had a handful that were long enough. Sewed a 5th to the rest and checked, and had a handful that needed one more strip. Did that and in the end, I had one strip left over, so that worked out very well!

Here they are before trimming

And my pile of trimmings.

I spied that Downton Abbey fabric, Battle Axe! I have nearly a bolt of that fabric waiting in my sewing closet for me. I have been collecting FQ's of DA fabric for a while now. A Downton Abbey quilt is on my To Do list for 2019. Just not sure what pattern I will use yet, but am thinking hexies. I have the whole series on DVD, and plan to start watching from the beginning again while I sew.

I have done the last 2 mysteries and enjoyed doing them, but they took away from other planned projects, like my DA quilt. So this year, the plan is to doing only a half size of Good Fortune, to make a wall hanging.

Hi Battle Axe, I think your sage will be great and love the green of the bonus 1/2 squares. Nice job.

bad news good news! Doing strings, which I've been hoping for, but yipes, I chose a gold yardage for my oranges.

Good news is when I had my mother here, deep in dementia, I just couldn't think. So I set up a card table across from her chair and sewed strings. and more strings. And let her shouting just roll over me.
I have orange strings! Lots of yellow in them too but still warm and cheerful. I'm happy!

Good Bless you KalamaQuilts. I wish you love and patience and know there will be a special crown waiting for you.
Have a Blessed Christmas. Karen

Macybaby, great string units! I'm also loving the yellow thrown in, but I don't have much yellow on hand so may have to stick with just orange.

Thanks for the tutorial & pictures Macybaby! Your strings look great.

I appreciate the encouragement AngeliaNR & Lisa - you may have convinced me.

Bonnie's oranges are my yellow so now that I understand *why* she recommend a range of color for orange I will go back through my scraps & stash and see if I have some butter yellow, bright yellows, and maybe some golds.

I am guessing it is important that the strings run vertically vs horizontally. And now I am back to thinking this will be an on-point settings. So fun to speculate. :)
