I have to get cracking on this! I've been catching up on Judy's Mystery Train. These are so much fun!! Today is a good day for me to get started on this one

Love what I'm seeing from all of you!

I will post Step 2 on Friday - - - every 2 weeks so we have time to work on other projects too.

Lovely colors, Cathy. I too love blue and yellow together.

I am a bit behind the group, still cutting out my blocks, but I don't mind. I'm working on the Mystery Train ride, plus another queen size quilt. Did you know there will be 97 pieces per block? That explains why it takes my ages to cut just one block!

I've got my Week 1 four patches sewn. My background fabric is only 40" wide so only got 26 pieces per WOF. Ended up with 78 blocks and no extras. I made two more so I'd have my 80 and will wait until we use the "extras" to sew them up.

This is the second time I've run into the problem that the pattern was figured using 44/45 wide fabric and I've got newer stuff that is only 40". The worst was when I needed longer pieces and the pattern figured 3 per WOF and I could only get 2. So it was either put a seam in them, use a lot more fabric or rotate them. The problem with rotating is then you end up with no stretch along the long direction. Makes easing in a lot more challenging.

Macybaby love the blue fabric you used with your background. Nice 4 patches. I have also ran into that issue with newer fabric being narrower. Just another way for them to save a little money.

Here's Step 2.

oksewglad 10-19-2018 09:33 AM

Still need to cut the rest of my BG fabric. I have a directional fabric and decided to cut a 44-45" square of fabric and fold it on the cross wise grain and cut my strips that way.

RE: fabric width. Bummer, Macybaby. Sometimes fabric is 44-45", but the selvages are so wide you loose a couple of inches. When calculating yardage for projects I always use 40" to make up for any discrepancies. fq40, reduced width allows them to sell more fabric!

Last night I ran into MrOk's Mission style recliner with a solid wood frame. I hit the center of my right knee...man it hurt...now limping around today...did not go to work...haven't tried the stairs to the sewing room yet. grrr...hope it doesn't take too long to feel better.

Thanks Jane..for step 2

Thanks for step two!

Thank you for step 2, Jane.

I have finished all of step 1, with Christmas design and also with the red, white and blue so I can use up more stash. I hit the panic button on my light color and ordered 6 years to fill-in, but hoping I don't have to use it in these two quilts. My light in the Christmas one is limited, but its a creme color or more snow than white, and the new piece is a bright white. Rather use it in a different Christmas quilt and not these two.

Figuring out how to place the circle and the nine patches now. Checking it more than twice with the directions. With 3 colors, it just uses 4 yards of background and I think I might just have that much of my light in the Christmas Quilt. If not, I might switch to my Kona Snow in my stash.

Good luck everyone. Ok, sorry you hit your knee on Mr. Ok's recliner. I know how much that hurt. I got a support that strapped on my knee from Therapy (in our Mercy Hospital) for about 6 weeks and use it on occasion when I bump my right knee again.
