Windblown ... I have two "Sewline" pencils. One is regular pencil color, the other is white. I'm using the white pencil on all the dark fabrics, and the dark pencil on the light fabrics. I've tested them both to make sure they are color safe even though I'm only marking on the reverse.

Windblown: For the dark fabric I am using the old school method, a sliver of soap. As far as I'm concerned for short term marking its the best. You never have to worry about it coming out and it smells good. Just wait until the bar of soap is almost used up and steal it for your sewing room.

I have the Sewline pencil with the white lead and I always find that I have to press hard enough to make a mark and that tends to be too much pressure and the fabric stretches a bit.

Somewhere (not sure if it was Bonnie's post or the blog that had the strip method) I saw someone using a thin white gel pen. That would be great for using on black and other dark colors. I use the frixon pens but none of the colors work well on super dark fabrics.

Emma.....I really like that idea, bet the tiny hotel soap from the last trip would almost use up fast.

forgot to mention the chalk pencil brushes right off with an old stippling brush.....but not the old flat wash brush that you use to clean out the bobbin case every time you change the bobbin......do not want any trace of chalk in there.

I think I've seen Bonnie talk about using a silver gel pen on both darks and lights.

I cut all my Clue 2 pieces today, but last night I realized I had sewn all of my black and hst pieces from Clue 1 incorrectly.:shock::(
I did a sample first and it was perfect, but then I had a brain f.....t and did it wrong. So I undid all of that last night before going to bed.
I hope I can catch up tonight by finishing Clue 1 and start to sew Clue 2 - it helps to read everyone's tips and hints here and on the Open Studio site!

I have 2 white pencils- one sewline, one soapstone they are too hard also a sliver sewline, dito.
My red friction is okay on the fabric but hard on the eyes. I don't think that it will be seen on the backside of quilt.
I off tomorrow to find either or both a white or silver gel pen.
Until then I'm using the sliver of soap(the only sliver I could find tonight is a hand made on and very soft, wouldn't you know)
