Anael, your are a natural at catching your subjects at just the right time. Great photo.

Teen 03-28-2019 03:36 PM

Oooo....pretty picture, Anael....

so excited to se your Christmas GW...

My vintage quilt is at the LA so working on small projects. Next on my agenda: I am tackling the double wedding ring pattern for my nephew's wedding present for this summer. I'll be doing applique on border so big project. Any suggestions on DWR is appreciated. Starting that next week...

Anael 03-28-2019 10:39 PM

Thanks Judith and Teen!

Teen, I never made a DWR so no suggestions other than using an embroidery machine :) Good luck! Not much time for a DWR but that depends on the size.
Can't wait to see your vintage quilt :)

sewingitalltogether 03-29-2019 02:10 AM

Not getting too much sewing done. Lots of spring cleaning. Visit with DGD was wonderful. Yes, she would love my next quilt. Pretty sure it's Long Time Gone. Keep going Anael. Love the Gypsy Wife.

Anael 03-29-2019 02:54 AM

So glad you had a good time with your DGD!!!
I don't do spring cleaning! Just the usual household duties which I really don't like! I rather sew or go for a ride.
Which I will do this afternoon after having cut a zillion of strips and sewing them together. Not there yet though!!
After finishing this one it's time to finish Bakers Dozen too.

I was worried about the time involved in a DWR, too, Anael, and if I would be able to finish it. I'm planning queen size. Not sure what is all involved with making one but I should receive my pattern in a couple of days. I'll decide after reading it. I know there are different methods in making one so I'll be researching before I start it.

sewingitalltogether 03-29-2019 11:18 AM

Teen,
I made a DWR years ago. Hand quilted it. Had it on my bed for a long time. I enjoyed the pattern. The arcs are not too difficult to sew together. It's a gentle curve. Seems like I only used 3 pins on the seam. The drunkards path is way more of a handful. It's much smaller. I had to use 5 pins and glue!! You will do fine. Using a Judy Neimeyer pattern? Paper piecing? I was using a John Flynn pattern.

Teen 03-29-2019 04:46 PM

Thank you, sewing....I'm Ok with curves and do fairly well with them but this is a lot of them. lol... I purchased Neimeyer pattern (Flowers for my Wedding Ring), which I think is PP, but I read up on Flynn method, too. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. Tonight, I'm watching some tutorials. I do not want to buy any more templates. We'll see. I'm psyching myself up for it. Pattern's been on my bucket list but never had motivation to make. If I think this will not get done in time for wedding, I'll just keep at it and keep it for me. Love the applique on her pattern.

Judith1005 03-30-2019 07:39 AM

Hi Ladies, I am loving all your posted photos.

Anael, your Sylvia Farmer's Wife Quilt is really a work of art. Great job.

Teen, Your great with curves. And, I'm sure all your research will pay off. If you purchase one of the Wedding Ring Die Cuts for a cutting machine, your cutting will be very accurate. Maybe one of the quilt shops has one you can rent or borrow.

I bought a few FQ's from Thousands of Bolts to freshen up my scrap bins and scrap projects. I received them today. (I know, bad girl. As I'm part of the fabric moratorium. But, I fessed up.) I am blown away by the quality. The colors are a little different then my computer showed. But, I can still work with that since it is all going into scrappies. And, those FQ's were cheaper then JoAnn Fabrics regular price. They were all designer names also. I will definitely order again in the future. The shipping was very reasonable also. But, I didn't buy too much. As I wanted to see what the quality was like. They are one of the few places I have found that sells individual FQ's.

Anael, I don't think their International Shipping is worth it.

https://i1189.photobucket.com/albums..._112840648.jpg

I really love color. The 2 on the left hand side are going into very specific scrappies. The rest will be divided into lots of different scrappy cuts. They are not even going to make it into the fabric drawers. They are going directly into scrap bins.

Judith1005 03-30-2019 07:46 AM

I also purchase a couple more books from Amazon. Two-Hour Mini Quilt Projects: Over 111 Appliqued and Pieced Designs by Kate, McKenzie and A Year In The Life Of Sunbonnet Sue, A: 12 Small Quilts. I really like applique and need to explore a few more methods.

Teen 03-30-2019 07:57 AM

Very pretty, Judith....and some fun books to play. It's hard for me to make a quilt that doesn't have applique so I get it. Have fun and thanks for the resource for FQ's.

Anael 03-30-2019 08:31 AM

Love your fabrics Judith!! Very bright and cheery :)

That Sun Bonnet book is great. The appliques are very detailed, lots of work. I really need to make a Sun Bonnet quilt, even if it's a wall hanging :D :D

Anael 03-30-2019 09:26 AM

Our LQS is closing. I always wondered how they managed to stay alive because they're quite expensive. I went there this week to see if they have the Urban Owls pattern book. They don't.....instead I purchased some FQ's.

Teen 03-30-2019 09:37 AM

Oh...bummer. Another LQS closing. The on-line shopping has really impacted these little shops.

Gorgeous!!!!!!

Judith1005 03-30-2019 01:57 PM

Awesome Christmas Wife Anael. I love the fussy cuts. Too bad about your local quilt store though. You are going to have to plan your purchases ahead of time.

We have one local quilt store in our area. And, they only carry a very specific blend of fabrics. A lot of times I go in there to look but, walk away without buying anything. It's a lot of novelty's of different sorts. I'm over novelty prints unless I find one I absolutely love. Which I haven't. I try to go more for blenders.

And finished!! I didn't even cook today :D :D Now it's time for a coffee and some rest! Of course Santa's Wife still needs to be sandwiched and quilted!
Bakers Dozen will be next.

Teen 03-31-2019 07:56 AM

Just stunning, I love the themed fabric. Reminds me of rolled wrapping paper, ribbons and bows.

Judith1005 03-31-2019 08:00 AM

Anael, Stunning!!! I love how it came out. Teens right, the strips look like rolled up wrapping paper. Just beautiful.

I can't help but wonder how extensive your collection of Christmas prints are? :D You have a wonderful variety in your quilt.

Anael 03-31-2019 08:54 AM

Thank you, thank you!!!

Judith, I've been collecting Christmas Fabrics for a long time, way over 10 years. Comes in quite handy for quilting :D

sewingitalltogether 03-31-2019 09:34 AM

Love your second Gypsy Wife!! I want a Christmas quilt.

Anael 03-31-2019 09:54 AM

Thank you!! The blocks are easy, the hard part is planning the strips.

oksewglad 03-31-2019 10:37 AM

She's not even eating! so it's "quilt, sleep, repeat" oh throw "biking" into the mix! Love the stork photo too Anael..The wrapping paper analogy is spot on! HMMM great way to use up those bits of Christmas fabric.

Doing farm bookwork stuff and hope to get back to sewing soon!

Anael 03-31-2019 11:53 AM

:D :D Ok! I did eat but I didn't cook, I just had a bun.
This quilt didn't make a dent in my Christmas fabrics. Made some new scraps too LOL

Anael 03-31-2019 12:36 PM

OK, changed my signature :D :D :D

I have to get Jack the ripper out and change one of the small filler blocks which is upside down. I just noticed it and now I see it all the time!! Time to go to bed here so I will do that tomorrow.

Mkotch 03-31-2019 02:54 PM

Wow. Anael, it looks great!

What a great idea, using Christmas fabrics! Looking at this quilt fills me with the warm & happy feelings that I associate with the Christmas Holiday Season. Love it!

Good to hear that the blocks are easy. Although I am not ready to start my GW quilt yet, looking at the 33 page "pattern" was daunting for me. the layout was rather confusing.

Anael 04-01-2019 04:26 AM

Thank you Nita!

The layout only makes sense when you attach the strips. There's a coloring page somewhere on the internet which I used. That way you can keep track of the blocks made and the overall layout of the quilt.

toverly 04-01-2019 04:56 AM

It's beautiful Anael! I would have never thought of Christmas fabrics and it's perfect. Such a variety of prints. Good job.

Anael 04-01-2019 05:09 AM

Thank you toverly!

Every quilt can be made with Christmas fabrics as far as I'm concerned :)

Anael 04-01-2019 09:19 AM

Almost down to the last row of Bakers Dozen. I need to finish the block I'm making right now and the 3rd row of the final border will be finished. Hopefully I can do that today though I feel not like it right now. I've been sewing almost all day!

Tomorrow I'm volunteering at a course for people with dementia and their caregivers. The course is called 'The power of memories'. It involves old stories and things from the past and hopefully it will trigger (happy) memories.

Anael 04-01-2019 10:30 AM

Pfew!!!! 3rd row finished. Now I need 5 more blocks and Bakers Dozen will be called a finish!! Not going to happen tomorrow though and neither Wednesday. So.....hopefully by the end of this week!

If so, I allowed myself to purchase a new quilt pattern. No, no Kingwell this time! And if not I might purchase it anyway :D :D :D Coming Saturday I'm going for a ride with my brother and I planned a visit to a quilt shop while we're there. It's called Urban Owls by Wendy Williams.

Teen 04-01-2019 10:30 AM

Can't wait to see your BD.... You are sewing up a storm! Good for you!

Have fun teaching your class... Challenging demographic to work with... Caregivers and volunteers are special people. The more training the more effective they will be. Good luck!! Research shows that music can inspire memory recall. One of my professors in graduate school was doing a research project on this very subject. Very cool!

Judith1005 04-01-2019 10:59 AM

Anael, excellent pattern. I can see why you want the Urban Owls pattern. I would love to have the pattern also. I want to learn how to do round robin quilts better. And, this is a fun pattern that looks like it is loosely based on a round robin type setting. I wish I could buy this pattern in a Wall hanging size. I will think about purchasing it in the near future. Maybe I can play around with changing the size.

Good luck with your course. I have no experience or knowledge to import as I am truly inexperienced in this area. But, I do hope it goes well and the caregivers get a lot out of it.

Teen, I got my Book!! Two-Hour Mini Quilt Projects: Over 111 Appliqued and Pieced Designs by Kate, McKenzie. You don't get a real gist of what this book is by the cover. I love it. It was worth the money. And, it was really inexpensive. It is going to be so much fun playing with the patterns in there. It is an older book. So, a lot of the patterns you have to enlarge. But, the choices are mind boggling. It's more about the patterns then the technique. It is going to be so much fun playing with this book.

Anael 04-01-2019 11:27 AM

Judith, the Bakers Dozen is a round robin too but it's quite large once finished. No wall hanging size! I like sections better because I can jump around and don't have to follow certain rules :D :D
Have fun with your new book, sounds like you will be busy for a while :)

Thanks for the good wishes. I'll be alright, I've worked with people with dementia. No expert but it's not a first time for me.

Teen, I'm not teaching, I'm just volunteering. Meaning being there, taking care of people, have lunch with the people with dementia and keep them busy after lunch either with stories or music or whatever.

Teen 04-01-2019 01:52 PM

Awesome, Judith!! Mini or small projects are a blast to make. So glad you are pleased with your book. 111 applique patterns? So cool. I need to checkout that book. I hope you share your projects with us!

I purchased the Urban Owl pattern last year while in Idaho. The LQS was doing a BOM and wouldn't sell the pattern until BOM completed so they held a pattern for me. I saw this quilt up close and personal and it is a busy, crazy, colorful quilt if made using the colors of pattern. Lots of different techniques used in making this...Wendy Williams patterns are really colorful and mostly wool but this pattern is great in cotton. This LQS is currently doing Jen Kingwell's BOM pattern Golden Days. It's an awesome quilt, too. I have been looking at Edyta Sitar's patterns and I saw a couple applique patterns that I may purchase. I need 48 hour days!! :D

Anael 04-01-2019 09:37 PM

I just joined the Urban Owl Facebook group. The same problem with this pattern: poorly written. One lady asked.....what's wrong with those Aussies? LOL.
So like the Kingwell patterns I guess I will have to read and reread before cutting my fabrics.
