Teen, have you seen this thread. https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...~-t304038.html It's called Monet's Wedding Ring. By Judy Martin. It is a different but nice take on the traditional Wedding Ring Quilt.

Anael 04-06-2019 09:18 AM

You're very welcome Littlecanvases! I'll PM you.

Nita, it depends on the skill level. Though......if you're in for an adventure, almost everything goes. Long Time Gone is a beginner pattern, it's straight forward piecing. So is Green Tea Sweat Beans, but this one has quite some appliqué.
Gypsy Wife is also straight forward piecing, but you need the second edition of the book for the right size of the strips. MSW doesn't have any Y seams either. You have to read those patterns very carefully to find out if the measurements given are finished sizes or not. So lots of possibilities here.
I myself started with GW because I saw that pattern a long time ago and always wanted to make it. Then I found out she has lots of other patterns too and I was hooked :D :D

Teen 04-06-2019 11:16 AM

Thank you, Judith!! Very cool version and likely a lot simpler to do.

Welcome, Littlecanvases!! I love the Glimmer pattern. That's on my bucket list, too! Lovely colors! There are so many cute projects in the Quilt Lovely book. I made one of the pillows but I want to make one of the quilts in that book, too.

Nita....so many possibilities to chose from. My GW is kitted and ready to go.. I'll look forward to seeing your progress whichever pattern you chose to begin. Good luck...and just dive right in.....it's a lovely journey! I had a ball making GTSB and Happy Birds quilt patterns.

Anael 04-06-2019 11:25 AM

I was at a quilt shop today and almost purchased another Jen Kingwell pattern. Then I thought about what I already have and still has to be done or finished so I didn't. I was lucky she doesn't have the Meadow pattern otherwise I would have bought it. Now I only bought Urban Owls by Wendy Williams. Not a Kingwell this time :)

Teen 04-06-2019 11:39 AM

Good restraint!!!! I bought Meadows a couple of weeks ago...lol...

Anael 04-06-2019 11:48 AM

Noooooooooooo you did??? I almost purchased Bring me Flowers but I didn't........I like Meadows better. She's going to try and order it for me......LOL

Nita 04-07-2019 04:03 AM

Thanks for your advice, Anael. As far as skill level goes, my ability to piece accurately is fairly good. Though I can easily become frustrated with poorly written patterns and herein lies the problem: IMHO, Gypsy Wife is poorly written (Yes, I do have the 2nd edition book). And I get bored making big sampler quilts ... thus the reason that I gravitate more toward art and landscape quilts. But I have fallen in love with Gypsy Wife and hope to someday get around to making it. I am also intrigued by My Small World and think I might go ahead and purchase that pattern as well. I looked at the other patterns you listed, but I'm just not "feeling the love" with them, so not tempted to by. I have so many quilt patterns and a long Bucket List of To-Do projects ... sigh.

Anael 04-07-2019 06:57 AM

You're welcome Nita.
As far as I'm concerned, the only thing which sometimes isn't clear with Kingwell patterns is if there is a seam allowance included or not. With GW it's not a problem, at least I didn't have any problems with those blocks.
GW is different from other samplers because it's not all blocks, unlike Long Time Gone. Bakers Dozen is quite the same. I understand why you don't love those patterns.
My Small World is a fun one and you can totally adjust it to your liking and make it your world :)

She's creating her own small world. I guess I need to find something else to do now :D :D

Judith1005 04-08-2019 04:41 AM

I think your small world needs to have a black kitty worked in somewhere on it. lol

Looks like your little helper is holding down the fort.

Anael 04-08-2019 04:53 AM

She quit her job :D :D

I have been searching for my cat fabrics but can't find them :( Need to search some more I guess!

Teen 04-08-2019 10:21 AM

Looks great!!! Looks like a fun pattern....great use of fabrics, Anael...

Anael 04-08-2019 11:29 AM

Thanks Teen. Do you have the pattern?

Teen 04-08-2019 02:40 PM

No, not yet but you are inspiring me...:D I have 4 or 5 Kingwell patterns that I haven't tackled yet plus her Quilt Lovely book. My next JK quilt will be GW but working on other stuff right now but I'll get to it..

oksewglad 04-08-2019 06:56 PM

This is the JK quilt that really calls to me, Anael...I like what you have done so far.

Nita 04-09-2019 03:35 AM

Something tells me that I will be buying the My Small World pattern sooner, rather than later. Anael, your picture posting of MSW is so inspiring! So darn cute and truly looks like the journey of making it is great fun. I love how you have used your fabrics ... really draws me in, wanting to study every little detail.

Anael 04-09-2019 04:40 AM

Thank you all!!!!

Nita, go ahead and buy MSW. It really is a lot of fun and you can make it your own in so many ways!

I saw a finished MSW with the sky made of Ohio stars. I liked that a lot but all Ohio stars.......so I think I'm going to replace some squares with Ohio stars. I made one.......what do you think?

I finished the bottom part of section 2. A cat in the window, in the other building lives a birdie the cat is very interested in :)
Now it's time for lunch and leave as I have a meeting this afternoon.

/QUOTE] Anael - how big are you making those Ohio Star blocks? That's a great idea that will give variety to the sky. I haven't started my MSW yet - we're leaving for vacation in a few weeks, so I'll start it when we get back. Meanwhile, I'm just cutting little squares for the sky.

Anael 04-10-2019 02:07 AM

The one I made is 3" finished. Just squares is easier :D I think I will make stars in different sizes.

Judith1005 04-10-2019 04:13 AM

Wowzers Anael, that is one tiny Ohio Star block. I love it, I think it looks great there!

This is one project I will keep coming back to look at Anael. All the personalization is fun! She does make sure you can put yourself in everyone of her quilts doesn't she.

Teen 04-10-2019 07:44 AM

Cute Ohio Star and neat idea....but....would it be better if the stars were higher in sky and not right right next to skyline? I was thinking that it may kind of blend too much and your skyline would be obscured. You know what I mean? I love the idea and the idea of different sizes of stars, tho. I was just thinking of placement....

Anael 04-10-2019 08:36 AM

I see what you mean Teen. It's not a night sky though, just stars to give it all a different look ;) I don't mind the stars blending in. I think they still will stand out from the squares. The quilt I saw didn't have any squares, just stars.

Teen 04-10-2019 09:26 AM

It will be beautiful.....love the kitty and bird. Fun fussy cutting project....my fav tho, are those itsy bitsy pinwheels. So So cute and perfectly made.

Anael 04-10-2019 09:54 AM

Thank you!!

I agree with Teen, in that the contrast between sky and buildings is likely to be less defined. If I EVER get around to making this wonderful quilt, I am likely to use a mix of various sky print fabrics and Batiks. I have tons of that type of fabric from making landscape and art quilts.

Anael 04-11-2019 04:17 AM

I only have one sky print fabric and that's a really blue one which I don't like here.
The next part is finished except for the zillion sky blocks. As I resized the picture I noticed one of the ohio parts needs to be turned. I will do that after I had a coffee :D :D

Judith1005 04-11-2019 05:04 AM

Oh Anael, It is coming out so pretty. I love the Ohio Star blocks. I think your small world is going to be spectaucular with them. I really like the idea of scrappy light blues for the sky color in them.

I didn't catch your mistake until you pointed it out. I would turn it also.

I just finished a mini that had to have 2 blocks turned. Now, they really stuck out as wrong. But, I didn't really notice it till I took a picture of it. And, boom, there it was. I took the time to turn them also. But, I was really really glad that the mistake was in an outer edge.

Anael 04-11-2019 06:01 AM

Thank you Judith!

Isn't it weird you often only notice mistakes after taking a picture? And we're lucky I guess. Imagine you notice a mistake after you quilted it......:(

I didn't turn it yet, I need to go groceries shopping and vacuum the house. So maybe tonight or tomorrow but it will be turned!

oksewglad 04-11-2019 07:05 AM

Really you need to vacuum! Ha Ha she laughs maniacally!

You've got to quit showing this wonderful progress...you are only making me want to drop everything and make this quilt!

Seriously, I am on a different mission. Many of you have heard of the devastation that has happened in Nebraska, our neighbor state to the west affecting many farm families (as well as others). As an old farmer myself I have been compelled to help, so have been sewing quilts to be given to farm families touched by the tragedy...I have a farm contact that I will be sending them to. Meanwhile the area is getting blizzard conditions now.

At this point I have 3 quilts done, one that just needs binding and working on a big block queen size now. I'm using from stash so actually have spent more time figuring out if I have enough fabric than sewing. Now time to get back to it...coffee pot's empty!

Anael 04-11-2019 07:22 AM

I've seen pictures of this devastation on Facebook OK! It's beyond my imagination what's happening!
Make more coffee and if you need fabric, I can send you some.
My stepdad was a farmer too!

I did vacuum today :) Only downstairs, upstairs the dust bunnies are still multiplying :) :)

Teen 04-11-2019 07:33 AM

Anael.....this is turning out so awesome. There are some cool and unique blocks in this design. I like the square in square with the HST. Wonderful job!!

OK...you've a kind heart. We are tracking storm and watching news on this storm...unbelievable this late in season. Prayers lifted.

Judith1005 04-11-2019 09:07 AM

Anael, you have a churn dash on the left that has an upside down birdie in it. Did you mean it to be that way.

And, your tall building with lots of windows, The one with the striped door, that reminds me of those buildings with a waterfall attached to the side of the wall. Very color and cute.

But, my favorite so far is the patchwork building with the tree next to it. It's perfect because it is the only building like that so far. It stands out just enough. And, that's what I think will happen with your Ohio Stars blocks also.

I so want this pattern. It looks like so much fun!!

Anael 04-11-2019 09:41 AM

Nooooooooooooooo now I have to rip two blocks !!!!! The birdie shouldn't be upside down. Thank you - I guess :D :D :D

The patchwork building is a fun one, the fabric is like that. I just cut the size of the building and voila, finished LOL. I won't use that fabric again in this quilt.

Judith1005 04-11-2019 12:01 PM

I admire that Jen Kingwell can create a pattern she envisions and then make it her own. And, then make a pattern for all of us.

I also love, love, love Macybaby's My Small World also. Lots of pre-thought placement of fabric and personalization going on in hers too.

That will be to my benefit when I finally get around to making my own My Small World. I will be able to be inspired by all the personal touches that I love that have come before me. And, I can tell ya, I am lovin' on those Ohio Stars.

Anael 04-11-2019 10:23 PM

Found Macy's World again: post # 66. She did a wonderful job on her World!

On the upside down birdie: one of my Facebook friends just told me her son has a bird and he's hanging upside down all the time. So I might decide the birdie stays upside down :) :) I still have to turn the Ohio piece though!

Anael 04-11-2019 11:15 PM

Judith, when you ever make your own Small World, pay attention to the actual measurements of some parts and the drawings in the book. They don't always match which is very confusing. A picture of a finished quilt will be very helpful!

Anael 04-12-2019 12:17 AM

We haven't seen frustratedquilter (Christine) here for a while now. Anyone know how she is?
