Welcome, Anita!! Enjoy the Kingwell journey. Fun patterns!

Anael....I heard that! :D Good girl finishing those beautiful UFO's.

Anael 12-05-2019 11:39 PM

Oh dear..........:D :D :D

I'm not finishing any UFO right now, I'm embroidering another pillow. Just a small project in between. Then I might make some more Christmas decorations before going back to my UFO's again :)
The BD is still patiently waiting downstairs LOL

Hope someone can guide me on this. I am having a terrible time with choosing neutral light fabrics (doing LTG). I have lots of white-on-white and beige-on-beiges; have some white with blacks. Other than that, no neutral lights. Anyone have any ideas? Can I use the whites and beiges? I have a silver grey solid for the sashing, so I'd like something that goes decently with the grey. Thanks for any suggestions.

I used white-o-white for LTG. My sashings are pink. Silver grey would work perfect, as long as you like it, it's ok.
Here's my LTG.

I used a variety of light neutrals, including some grey and white. As long as you have a definitive contrast you should be okay.

Both are beautiful! Love seeing these again!

Judith1005 12-07-2019 04:45 PM

Oh Anael, I missed seeing the finished LTG quilt. Or, I think I did. It came out so good! I love how you threw in quirky little prints like the turtles. They make me smile.

ILoveToQuilt 12-07-2019 06:38 PM

Thanks for the answers to my neutrals dilemma. I actually made my first bow tie block and used white/black fabrics. When I am finished with bow tie #2, I will post them here. I haven't been this inspired to make a quilt in a long time. Thanks for the inspiration and the pictures of your gorgeous quilts!

I can't wait to see your start and will gladly cheer you on. I don't have any of the Kingwell patterns yet. I have a super huge busy year planned to make a few quilts from my bucket list and finished up a boat load of UFO's. So, I can't really fit anything else on the list right now. Well, I list them on the list, but, they are way down there right now. I will be loosing several months during the summer because I'm going to my daughters house this summer to baby sit so my SIL can do his clinicals. Otherwise, I don't think they could afford a sitter for the grands. I want to see him finish school without having to delay his education.

Yes ladies, I am planning to take some type of hand project with me. And, may take my (crappy) machine to do bindings on some quilts that I am going to send off to a LA'r. We'll see what I can get done before I have to go. I have 5 UFO quilts ready for the LA'r at the moment. I will probably send off 3 to the quilter next week.

Judith1005 12-07-2019 08:20 PM

Mkotch, those are great colors your using. Your quilt is going to be very classic and calming looking.

I made 2 quilts in those type colors. A Dutchman's Puzzle quilt and a DP9 made out of the leftovers from the DPB quilt. I really like them but, I'm not in a hurry to use beige, tan, again anytime soon.

I really like yours though. Very pretty.

And, your My Small World came out fantastic. Love all the fun colors.

Mkotch 12-08-2019 02:50 AM

Thanks for your kind words, Judith. I have been side-tracked by a few other projects, some holiday-related, some not. But I plan to get working on my LTG in the new year. Will look forward to seeing your progress!

Anael 12-09-2019 11:51 AM

I'm doing Holiday related stuff too. Today I embroidered an AnitaGoodesigns pillow with a Santa. When I needed color # 22 I realized I switched #20 and #21....considering it's in an embroidery hoop it's hard to rip but I had to so out came my very shard scissors and carefully I snipped the threads. Of course I snipped a hole in the fabric!! Because of the dense embroidery I just used some WSS on top and embroidered the whole thing again. No shifting which is a miracle!
Now hopefully it will hold when it has to be washed. Which will be one day in the far future :D :D :D

Teen 12-09-2019 05:31 PM

Oh man.....I don't do embroidery but I have snipped into fabric by mistake when ripping out stitches. I hate when that happens. Be sure to share Santa pillow when done.

I'm doing some holiday projects, too, then I can get back to quilting my Lori Holt quilt. The whole thing is applique so it is super heavy...I'm halfway done, thank goodness.

I wasn't too happy either Teen. But it seems it's all holding up. I removed the WSS this morning and it's still in one piece LOL

Please show the Lori Holt quilt when finished. Can't wait to see it. I love those flowers!!!

Here are my (going to be) pillows. They're AnitaGoodesigns.

Gorgeous work, Anael....all so detailed. I can't imagine the thread changes for these... I need to site with someone and watch this process cuz I have no clue about embroidery machines and hoops etc. and, I'll share the finished Holt quilt when done. I'm pleased with the quilting, so far. My biceps are killing me...lol..

Here are my first 3 blocks of my LTG. Two bow ties and the star in a square. I decided to use the whites with black as my background fabrics and I think they look good. Tomorrow I will sew up the UK Cross blocks.

The brownish color in the bottom photo is actually a vibrant magenta.

Thank you! They both had over 30 thread changes.l
I'll work something out for you :)

I know about muscle aches but consider it a win win. Quilt done, no need to go to the gym for a while LOL
Can't wait to see it!

Anael 12-10-2019 10:48 PM

Wow Anita!!!! Those blocks are beautiful! Well done! That will be a stunning LTG once finished!

ILoveToQuilt 12-11-2019 02:11 PM

Thanks. It will be bright, that's for sure. :)

I was intimidated when I first saw JK's patterns (bought GW first), but working on LTG, I realize really how simple they are to make.

Luckily, 90% of the fabrics I am using are from my stash. Hope to sew some more blocks either tonight or definitely tomorrow. Will post more pictures as I am completing the blocks.

Teen 12-11-2019 06:53 PM

Anita....I love your blocks.. I use black & white backgrounds a lot cuz they really make the block colors more vibrant in contrast. It is true in your blocks. Looks fantastic...well done! Black and white and bright is my all time fav!!

Anael 12-11-2019 10:22 PM

I agree, GW looks intimidating but isn't. Lots of people think it's hard and you need a lot of support to be able to make it but I found it not hard at all. Like with every pattern you need to read carefully and you'll be fine.

Anael 12-12-2019 12:19 AM

Happy Birthday OK!!!! I hope you have a wonderful day!

Oh, wow! Anael, I really like your use of white-o-white and all pink sashings for your LTG. As mentioned several times on this board, I am not a fan of 'random scrappy" quilts ... just too busy for my liking. You have given your quilt a very "cohesive" look ... very lovely!

BTW, Hobbykat and I will finally be kicking off our "Together via SKYPE" My Small World project in January. Stay tuned future postings :-)

Thanks Nita!!

How exciting to start a project together yet apart. I did that a few times too, it's really fun!
Can't wait to see the blocks you both are making.
I love My Small World. Still need to finish mine. It's in the UFO pile :D

Mkotch 12-19-2019 05:18 AM

Anita, I love your blocks. They are a great start, and I too enjoy using black and white backgrounds. I made my Splendid Sampler I and II blend with them, and there are so many to choose from these days. I'm keeping busy sewing small tumblers in Christmas scraps these days. I have a lot on my mind and lots to do with the holidays, so I find more "mindless" sewing is all I want to do. These will come together in a small scrap quilt one of these days.

ILoveToQuilt 12-25-2019 07:49 AM

Thanks everyone! So far the white and blacks are working out well and I think they look good. I will post more blocks in the next few days. I am going in order from the LTG book and I am now starting work on the churn dash blocks.

Did anyone else have "problems" with the Plus Star block? I had a heck of a time figuring out what went where, even though I laid out the block row by row. It is together now, but took me almost 3 days to get it figured out. I went so far as to enlarge and copy the block from the book and colored in the different components. Still was confused. Don't think I made any errors, but not 100% thrilled with the final block. Oh well....

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. I will be starting the churn dash blocks today as DH is busy studying for a pharmacology exam.

Judith1005 12-25-2019 10:05 AM

Merry Christmas Everyone.

Anael 12-25-2019 01:15 PM

The hardest part for me of the PLus a star block was figuring out the fabrics. I made a similar quilt not too long before I made LTG so the lay out was quite familiar to me.

Anael 12-25-2019 01:15 PM

Thank you Judith!!

Merry Christmas from me to all of you too!

Teen 12-25-2019 03:58 PM

Merry Christmas, ladies!! Hope you had a lovely day in whatever you did to celebrate the season!

Anael 01-01-2020 11:47 PM

It looks like on every thread the last posts have disappeared!!

Happy New Year to all of you!

Learning2Quilt 01-02-2020 03:44 AM

Wow Teen these are all beautiful. I am going to see about getting some of her patterns. I have always admired those Gypsy Wife quilts I have seen.

Mkotch 01-03-2020 03:53 PM

After a holiday break, I got back to Long Time Gone over the last few days. I had been intimidated by the small Courthouse Steps blocks but actually found them quite easy. I then did the Log Cabin blocks with no real problems. Next, I hit the half square triangles. Mama mia! The block made with 2" HSTs was murder, but thankfully I finished. It may pass the galloping horse test but certainly not any close scrutiny. I'm going to take another break for a day or so. These blocks are intense!

Teen 01-03-2020 06:16 PM

Lol...".galloping horse test"....priceless. I'm sure they are great and look forward to seeing all you have accomplished. Sounds like you got a bunch done.
