Is anyone here from Kentucky? I'm in south central Kentucky. Looking for a quilt show friend. Someone to go to shows with. I am new to quilting and have never been to a show.

I wanted to do something "country". Made this for a friend.

So happy to be one of the twins!!! Can't wait for my lesson(s).

If any of the beginner quilters need help I help them. Is it possible to be a daughter and a mommy?

Kyia

Kyia, your mommy is also a daughter!
My mommy is Blueribbontoes, who will be teaching me needle turn applique.

You could check the group list. That has information on who has been adopted, and who still needs a mommy. I spotted several that could use your help.

tkhopper, I just want to say what a wonderful job you are doing organizing this whole thing!

I have been in contact with my mommy and we are doing a project together, It'll be fun cause than I can pick her brain.
This is fun!

tkhooper 03-07-2010 05:43 AM

Don't forget to take plenty of pictures for a link. We all want to watch each other learn and progress. Pictures of booboo's too.

That reminds me, where do we post pictures? Is there a common link/thread so that we can all easily find it and the board doesn't get swamped or do we start new links for each mommy-daughter project? I am starting something today hopefully, if I can work out the Janome that is. :D

tkhooper 03-07-2010 10:20 AM

I've been wondering about that myself. I'm thinking each project deserves it's own thread. I mean by the time we post the progress pictures, the directions, the booboo's and fixes and everyones comments each project is going to create a lot of posts.

What do you all think?

If you want to look at mine I posted the link on the group activity board under my name.

tkhooper 03-07-2010 10:20 AM

If you want me to add your link to the group page please just pm me. I'd be glad to.

This is so true, I posted a block that I made a while back. I made a goof on it, I showed it and how I corrected it :D This is a good way to show that we ALL make mistakes, and most can be corrected... it is all part of learning. On that block, the correction became a new design element too :D:D:D

I like the idea also of keeping the projects in separate topics. The projects would get buried and jumbled if we tried to keep them all here. I know I would get very confused as to who is working on what LOL
You can start a new topic in the Pictures section

sewnsewer2 03-07-2010 12:17 PM

Maybe do something like personal diaries to show our progress? Only name it different and a thread for each participant? Wonder how that would work, then we can keep all of the progress pics together under that person's name instead of trying to figure out who is talking about what project?

i think we would have to get permission for that..the diaries have rules about posting about quilting subjects..it is a no-no.
unless the Board has another idea of how we can handle this..Kim

I don't mean in the dairies themselves. But thanks for the info, I didn't know that.
:-)

tkhooper 03-07-2010 12:35 PM

I would either just post them in the main area under whatever title the originator wants and then they can send me the link in a pm. I'll put it under their name on the group page. That way you can easily look up whoever's project you want to very simply.

Sort of like a diary only different.

amma 03-07-2010 02:00 PM

You could start a topic, example "tkhooper and amma's PP Project" all of our pictures and comments would all be in one topic/thread. Everyone would start their own topic/thread for each of their own projects...that way they would be organized to each project started. These projects would then be posted by our names in the group activity section, as tkhooper explained.

Admin or the Moderators will be the deciding factor over whether these are kept in the Main section or moved to Pictures or Tutorials. I think deciding factor will be if the topic is in a tute format or a series of pictures as the projects are progressing, or if you are putting out a topic for general board discussion on a project.

Lucille A 03-07-2010 03:12 PM

Your are adopted. What do want to know!!!! Lucille A

Stummel 03-07-2010 03:55 PM

Would it be possible to start a new area or sticky and within that have sub-topics, so every newbie partnership (moms and kids) can start a subtopic? That way they'd all be in the same place and people wouldn't have to weed through the Main section, because I surely won't remember everyone's name or realise which threads are by newbies and which aren't.

ForestHobbit 03-07-2010 04:12 PM

SewCrafty I need a mommy. I love applique and hand stitching(hope to do hand quilting) Are you available?

amma 03-07-2010 04:51 PM

I don't think Admin would go for another new area, and there isn't a way to do sub topics on the board, but these project topics will be able to be found here:

http://www.quiltingboard.com/group_a...jsp?gracnum=30

The individual projects will be in the comment section by the owners names, all you will have to do is click on the link, like the one next to tkhoopers name :D:D:D

You can find this section by looking at the bottom of the home page, the link to that is at the top of all of the boards pages :D:D:D

amma 03-07-2010 05:00 PM

If we get enough projects listed, we can then as Admin about adding this to the Virtual section. But we would have to be able to show him that there is a need

Thanks for all the well wishes and yes they were in American Patchwork Quilting aroun November I think. My quilt group is working on them together. I had never sewn with batiks before so it was definatley a different medium. I have been sewing for quite a while but really have gotten into quilting in the past few months.

sewcrafty 03-08-2010 04:02 AM

I would absolutely love to be your mommy!!! I sent you a PM. Welcome to the family!!!!

sewcrafty 03-08-2010 04:19 AM

Hi everyone!! I'm open to a big family. I just have the DUH factor happening. I can't seem to get myself (even with the help of TK) to the page to find out who needs adopting. I've done a little bit of everything. But, CANNOT and I mean CANNOT do scrappy. Trying to wrap my head around this, I guess I'm sort of matchy matchy. Working on this area though!! I've done the basics, curved piecing, PP, applique, some machine quilting and mostly hand-quilting. If I can help anyone, please just PM me!! I'm sure the other mommies feel the same way. If someone meets your interest, PM them! They may not be able to find the page either!!

P.S. LOVE your avatar

Lucille A 03-08-2010 04:48 AM

You are doing a great job!!!!!

Suggestion: get some fairly stiff pellon, and cut it to go into your printer. Print your pattern on the pellon. Then, when you fold your piecing pattern to attach your next fabric--leave the fold in the pattern, and take your matched pieces to you machine, and sew right next to the pattern, but not on it. Put a dot of glue baste it ,and fold the pattern over your sewn fabric pieces, and go to you next line, repeating the same process,(fold, sew as close to the folded pattern as you can, dot glue, and go on.) that way you can make the piece, have the accuracy of paper piecing, and not have to tear away the paper. The pattern can be used many times over.

tkhooper, is this what you meant about posting the lesson to a thread?

www.quiltingboard.com/t-38932-1.htm

This is a thread for Janedennis.

If I need to do this differently, let me know.

That is it. I took the link with the http and put it under jane's name on the group activity page. So now if someone wants to know what jane is working on all they have to do is go to the group page and look up her name.

tkhooper 03-08-2010 06:01 AM

Here is the link to our group activities page. http://www.quiltingboard.com/group_a...jsp?gracnum=30
