Many thanks. I started in a Bee group in October; have made more errors then I care to admit to, but I am still trying. This week I am making a 24" courthouse steps neo- natal quilt. Put all the pieces together, now need to square it up, put on a back and put on a border. Have no idea how to meander so will have to figure out a way to quilt it. Do not have a walking foot for my old JC Penney machine. Any suggestions?

I could adopt both of you, Quiltlaker and sewmuchmore!!! I am off to a quilt retreat for the weekend but will be back Monday. Since I am new to the board what is the best way to get in contact with each other?

I think this is a GREAT Idea, I have made on ONE quilt, and although I pieced it all by myself my mother-in-law helped with the finishing and it was machine quilted. I was in a motor vehicle accident and quilting was suggested as a form of therapy for me since I had a Traumatic Brain injury. I now love it, but I live about 5 hours from my Mom-in-law and would love someone to take me under their wing, so to speak. The bindings, I have no clue, and anything other than a nine patch or very simple pattern I am lost on how to to do.
I feel like one of those puppies at the humane society that needs a new home. hehe. Anyway, this is my story, if anyone wants to take on a true NEWBIE. =) I have attached a picture of my one and only quilt. |
I love all of the quilts that you all have posted :D:D:D
Good Job All  |
Kat,
That is a beautiful quilt! There are alot of wonderful on this board and I am sure they will help you. I have been given help by just asking the ladies that are in the swaps I am in. |
Please, please pm me if you want to be added to the quilting adoption group activity.
Thank you. |
I decided after looking at the other postings that my name was too long and so I contacted Admin. and changed it to sas10.
I would be honored if you became my adopted mommie. Am headed to the vet with my Molly so will contact you later. A big thank you to you,. |
Love all the the quilt pictures poted! They are way better than my first, second or third! Great job ladies!
|
Why thank you =) I have found the Meassage board to be quite helpful. =)
|
Thank you, I am kind of proud of it since It was my first try. I am working on a nine patch in browns aquas and pinks for my neice right now. The seams aren't matching up like I would like them too, and it is driving me crazy. But my mother in law assured me that after it is quilted that the seams will not be that obvious and that since it is for a tween that she will probably like it better if it isn't all "perfect". I hope she is right. =)

I find that pressing can make or hinder the process. I press the seams in one row to the one side and in the next row, I press them to the opposite side. That way, the seams "nest" when you put the rows together and with a little pinning you can adjust (fudge) the pieces a bit. BTW: Nice job on your first! |

Wisconsin, huh. I lived in Janesville for 2 years, but got tired of the terribly cold and dreary winters so went back to Arizona. Now I live in Utah and am back to the cold and dreary winters. At any rate, glad to have been adopted. :-D
I have a project in mind, but don't exactly know how to get it started and have it turn out right. I will see if I can scan the drawing I made as a pdf and send it to you. It is adapted from a design by Karen Burns. She did it all by using 1/2 square triangles and I thought I'd like to try it using strips cut at 45 degree angles and then using the triangles at the top and bottom only. I hope you can help me. |
I'm a newbie and would like to be adopted by another quilter who owns a Janome 11000. I need help understanding this machine.

Someone mentioned time out for our wayward chldren. Countrygirl....which pile of fabric are you hiding under?
|
I think it was in the cutting, I think my blade on my rotary cutter got dull or something and some of my pieces are not the same size or something. Oh well. I guess every quilt will not be a masterpiece but each will be a learning experience.
|
kat I love your attitude!! If you look at the "pros" quilts, you will find they even make errors!

In case you are still looking for a mommy/daddy or daughter here is a list of people to consider.

I now have three daughters, but open for more. I can do needle turn or machine applique, have tackled stained glass, paper piecing. Y-seams in tumbling blocks still alude me, as does the New York Beauty curves. I have done alot of landscaping wall hangings, but most of all, I love to encourage others.
|
Thank you so much for the encouragement. I have found that quilting is teaching me many things, most of all it is teaching me patience. I really do enjoy it. Each one is like a child and new and different in its own way. It is so fun to experiment with the colors and the material. I just wish that I knew more and was more accomplished so I could really make things come to life, so to say. right now my quilts are really simple, and I realize that sometimes simple is a good thing and right now that is what I need...really, really simple. I look at some of the other quilts that some of the more experienced quilters have made and they are so BEAUTIFUL. And my mom in law makes just gorgeous quilts. She just amazes me with her talent.
|
So how do we contact these people? Just contact them on here and ask if they are willing to work with us?
|
I pm would be the surest method I would think.

Missouri Quilts has added some new tutorials. they are short video ones.
http://tutorials.missouriquiltco.com/ they are worth checking out! |
Thank you!!! I loved their new videos :D:D:D
|
I have dial up. I can't do video's.
|
I could really use a mentor!
|
Their videos are short, most average 3 minutes.... I don't know if that makes a difference on dial up or not?
|
I tried the video hoping that it would work but it's like a seconds worth of video and then it has to sit and load for 5 minutes. I just can't do it.
Rubia please tell us alittle about what you want to learn about quilting. |
Right now I'm working on a pinwheel quilt. I chose it because I found a tute that made it pretty easy to piece.
I would like to learn binding and more advanced piecing. My weak areas are cutting my pieces and having them all be precise, making and sewing binding, and consistent seam allowances. I'd also like to get into quilting bees and block swaps. I'm hoping that by being forced to create a few blocks of a different pattern, I'll start gaining confidence. Doing a few blocks for a swap is much less intimidating than an entire quilt! :) |
Rubia I've added you to the quilt adoptions group. So if you see someone you want as a mommy or daddy please pm them. If they agree then you or they can contact me and I'll add it to the Quilt Adoption Board. Please let us know how your quilt progresses.
