Showbizgirl I love the Christmas fabrics. They would make some very pretty candle wreaths. Dotty your Christmas quilt will be amazing. Dotty Love the bag, I like making my own so I can add lots of pockets and slots for pens and such. Jordan your blocks look so good. Can't wait to see the final quilts. Marcia I'm afraid I'm gonna have to snatch up that lavender quilt. They all look so different even though it's the same patterns. Thanks for taking the time to show us all the nice pictures ladies.

Yay, a block show from Jordan! They are so pretty. I LOVE your fabrics.
The fresh lilacs block is a beauty too. Dotty, love the tote. I really like how it's zippered inside but has all the outside area as pockets. At least, that's what I think I'm seeing. Marcia, it was me who posted the Christmas fabrics. At Thousands of Bolts I think they sell their yardage by the whole yard. I bought whole yards.... But they also have a section of FQs and end of bolt pieces that are less than a yard. And they have "fat packs" of 10 FQs for $13.95- $15.95. They have themed FQs, including Civil War and 30's. Great site. Fun to look at, anyway. |
Jordan, your blocks look wonderful!
Those fresh lilacs fabrics are soooo pretty! |
lawsonmugs, I think your grouping shows a nice balanced variety of backgrounds and colors. You certainly can arrange them any way you like.
JQ, Lovely fabric on that one! The background is bee's knees. Very pretty. Connie, you've got nice contrast on that one. Dotty, good work on your construction every time. Another block with great points on the triangles! Jordan, Your collection of blocks is fun to see! Your quilt is going to have a great antique, vintage look. Battle Axe, I like seeing your busy sewing table with all the scraps! :-) |

Here are my last two blocks. Thank you Sewbizgirl for sharing that I don't need to use a scant 1/4 inch seam with an Accuquilt Go, everything went together perfectly! The pictures of the blocks look kinda wonky but they are square. Jan

Those are pretty, Jan. Amazing points!
|
Oh drool! Score sewbizgirl. All of them are gorgeous. Will you use them in a BOOM swap?
|
Jan those soft colors are very nice.

Love the idea of florals. Come to think of it, I saw your selections, one modern and one more traditional, right? I love that idea. I go crazy with all the shipping etc. plus I have lots of fabric but very little the right size.

Well.... you could keep your tempting Boom chat to the Boom thread. I haven't signed up yet. I think the various floral swatches was a brilliant idea! I assumed everyone was cutting from the same fabric to send for the others to sew, as it seems like the pictures posted from past Booms are of sampler quilts where each block contain a piece of the same print. Which is a cute idea, but the sampler that is scrappy is just going to be a brilliant idea for a Boom. I haven't seen that yet. Well done for a creative idea there!
Just Jan, I like the contrast of color in your block. Such a different look it gave than the way our pattern was done with two prints where you have your one orange. |

Yeah, you can always send in a mixture for the Boom swaps... or have more made for a previous swap so you can get a bigger quilt. Actually, I use 12 blocks for a charity lap throw, so only need 12 F8ths the same per quilt. Or... mix it up!
SORRY TO TEMPT! (Not. It's all part of my evil plan.) Ok. Back to the Rest and Refreshing. I finally got this week's block done today-- yay! Our power was out for a couple of days after a thunderstorm that blew in with HUGE winds. There are big old trees laying uprooted everywhere. :( But today I can sew and get online again! I kind of went rogue with the gold color in this one. I just loved that fabric and wanted to use it. Now I'll have to work it in somewhere else in the quilt. Only 4 hours til our next block comes out! Made this one in the nick of time: |
Love your woven star/sister's choice in orange and greens, JustJan! I think a whole quilt of that block would look awesome... blocks in different colors.
|
Very pretty Sewbizgirl.
|
OK I think something is wrong with the directions or me. I over size cut my sq's should be 3 1/4" I make them 3 1/2" SO I am sure they are plenty big enough and I cut off the extra. That's fine with me, rather they be too big than too small. So this week we are using the the pinwheel method not the hst method. So I still overcut my squares to 3 1/2". Made one pinwheel and it comes out to 3 3/4 " So I can't cut that down to 4 1/2" What is going on??? Anyone else having troubles?
|
Hi Mary,
Yes, you are quite correct - and this current block nine has been corrected twice. you need the SECOND corrected update. Check Pinwheel directions. DottyD |
Everybody should have got a correction in their email... Dotty, are you saying there is a second correction?
|
Yes, I had the original, 1st correction and then a second one about 30 minutes later. All the squares should be 4 1/4 "
and follow the Pinwheel directions. |
Thanks Dotty... I see I got the second correction too.
|
I am going to start. I am going to use red, white, and blue for my my son's Christmas quilt. He was born on the 4th of July in 1992. He has been wanting me to make him a quilt and I just love all these blocks. Going to have to get cutting so I can get them made and caught up.
|
I also received 2 corrections since I posted my first post at 12:05 today. Since I already cut my fabrics I'm going to go ahead and do the hst's. Thanks Dotty and all. Hav4boys that sounds like it will be pretty. Please posts pictures of it too.
|
I dont follow the directions......I cut them all on my accuquilt machine using the 2 1/2" square triangle die. Works perfect with no waste.
Jane Q |
I really don't read the directions either... just go from the picture. That usually works.
|
Just bought the first 7 block patterns and am going to get it started tonight. I cannot wait!!!!
|
hav4boys... if you need to get the current week's block you may have to message Debbie and ask her to send it. She emails them out on Mondays and it's already gone out for this week.
Glad you are going to be making them along with all of us. Can't wait to see yours in red, white and blue. |

Oh! Look at all the posts! Nice to see some new ones jumping in. Welcome! I'm a bit behind as I was visiting a lot with my son and DIL and new grandson last week. I'll have to make last week's block and this week's block this week. I didn't start right away on this week's, and found the corrections before I've started. I don't really use the directions a whole lot anyway!
SBG, That gold block is a zinger! I have that fabric on your lower left pinwheel. Nice fussy cutting on your border. It was a new one I bought recently, just because I had mandatory overtime at work and decided to treat myself to some new fabric. Some don't indicate 'Civil War' by info on their selvages, but I'm not a truest about it-- if they look like the general genre to me, then I'm satisfied. |

It will be unique and pretty in Christmas fabrics. I love red and green together. It's classic color combination for quilts and used a lot for them historically.
Here's my block for the week! Thanks. Janet (My forum name is Just Jan but I will sign my messages as Janet since I see there is another Jan here.) |
Wonderful block, sewbizgirl!

Just Jan,
The border on Constellation is 1 1/2" unfinished, with 1 1/2" unfinished cornerstones. The blocks finish at 10". Basically, they are using 2" size pieces, HSTs, etc. (finished). So, Constellation, finished, is 8" in the middle, with 1" border to make up the 10" block. Whirlpool is the same. Double X has a 6" middle and a 2" finished border. |

I used the only brown border fabric I had that was long enough to cut all the pieces from. I was thinking it was pretty ugly but I guess it's ok. I have a really pretty one but I would have had to cross cut it, which defeats the purpose and looks funny to boot. |
Sewbizgirl ...love your boarder. I have spent two days looking for ANY boarder fabric in my pitiful stash. I have to give up. This block will look like a plain Jane without a fancy boarder like yours. Sigh.....
