Thank you, Jane.

OK, they are fun. You should jump in and join us. Doesn't take much time to make a 10" block. I love that size!

What pretty bright blues, Connie. Your brown looks like a wood frame. I really like that block.

Battle Axe 06-08-2017 02:43 AM

Sew!!! fun. I want to get ahead of myself and put some sashing on. I have the dark brown corner squares cut. So far we have made all the blocks in the middle row.

The Fresh lilacs fabrics had a couple of prints with those stripes in them. So I fussy cut them for my border.

That's true... we have a whole diagonal row made now! Is anyone working on the border? I thought I would, but haven't so far.

Annaquilts 06-08-2017 06:22 AM

Nope I am not working on the border yet. It would be nice to do so as you go so the whole border is not left as one big project.

joe'smom 06-08-2017 07:57 AM

This block wasn't people's favorite, but they all turned out great!

sewbizgirl, I just love that fabric framing your second block!

lawsonmugs 06-09-2017 05:52 PM

Boy it sure is quiet here today. Maybe a little more action Saturday when there are less people working. Can't wait to see more blocks posted on here. Have a good weekend everybody.

And then not long til the next block comes out....

Tonight I decided to make use of the many scraps I have, so I attacked the 2" strip drawer. I've cut all the ones I can into 10.5" lengths to make quilt blocks for a charity quilt. Next, I need to find something to do with all my 2.5" strips. Really want to get these sewn up!

DottyD 06-09-2017 11:50 PM

Yes, it has been a little quiet, I have had a few teething problems with a new computer and the change over. But I just wanted to thank you for the lovely comments re my Christmas fabrics and blocks. The different fabrics you are all choosing are so nice and there are going to be some lovely quilts made.
In the meantime I have made one bag and nearly finished another from a free tutorial on YouT**e by Debbie Shore called * A zippered, lined tote bag * it has turned out very well and I am pleased to have fairly successfully put in two zips in each bag LOL ! Looking forward to Mondays block.

Love it, Givio! What gorgeous fabrics.

Jordan 06-11-2017 07:14 AM

I am working on #6 and #7 today. Yikes! I will be getting another pattern tomorrow. I had better get going-beautiful blocks made by everyone. Why am I on this computer????? I should be sewing.

DottyD 06-11-2017 09:09 AM

Yes, I have all of the pieces cut and about 8 sewn up: (disregard wonky lower right corner that needs to be fixed to make square)

JQ, wow, lookin' good there! I didn't start on the border. I wasn't sure if I would follow the directions for the border, or if I'll just go scrappy and use more of a mixture of prints. It will probably be the latter, because I don't have a lot of CW yardage, rather just smaller pieces. And by the time I get done with the other blocks, I'll have even smaller pieces... The strips and precise placement of colors of the pattern border looks nice though. I don't have enough for all that neutral setting triangles and sashing either. I'd love to use CW shirtings and neutrals there as I like the look of the pattern. I've been looking in the $4/yd range and didn't come across some yet...

Finally!! I have my 42 -16 patches and four corners. I gave myself a C- on the construction as I got frustrated and messy at the end. This is the Fresh Lilacs rendition.

Battle Axe 06-11-2017 03:54 PM

Those 16 patch nightmares took me almost 3 weeks. And then I did not do a real good job on them. I can do a regular block in a morning or less, but these had me a round the throat. Our Den Mother, (Debbie) said that the instructions for the setting triangles will not come until week 20. I would just warn others that it could be more difficult than first thought.

P. S. my avatar kitty is much better. Had a blockage due to long hair.

retiredteacher09 06-11-2017 04:48 PM

Givio: Nice block. I like the way you changed up the center with 2 different colors.

Just Jan: Those are looking good.

Battle Axe: Way to go!

Connie

sewbizgirl 06-11-2017 04:52 PM

The border 16-patches are looking good, ladies! I need to try and do a few every week when I have time between blocks.

Only 4 hours til our new block comes out.... :p

Jane Quilter 06-11-2017 08:47 PM

block 8 is in the email box...12:38am yeah

Phew got er done !!! I had this one all together and was ironing it and noticed the center brown square was rectangular. What was that about....... I had to tear it apart and redo the neutral and brown bars,I had them backwards. Anyway it's done. Hope to see lots more of you ladies blocks. Show some pictures with all your blocks if possible please. I laid mine out like the photo and I'm not liking some of the blocks they have side by side as the colors are to similar. Guess I'll figure it out in the end. lol. Have good day ladies.

happylab 06-12-2017 10:52 AM

Lurking from afar. I'm really enjoying seeing all of your progress. I did not get into this site soon enough to enjoy the QAL, but I really love the colors and the finishes. Back to lurking.

Cheesehead 06-12-2017 01:53 PM

Mary, your blocks look so pretty altogether.

I have last weeks block done but haven't posted a picture yet, it was a fun block to do. I hope to get some time tomorrow to do this weeks blocks.

We are somewhat house bound this week. The US Golf open is taking place near our home and the traffic has been incredible. We live in the country and are not used to this kind of activity. Our sons home butts right up to the golf course, when he bought his home 15 years or so ago it was a farmers field behind his house. The really bad thing is the golf course has had floodlights illuminating the entire course for the past month 24 hours a day. I suspect this was done to deter vandalism or keeping critters off of the course. The event should be finished on Sunday..weather permitting.

Jane Quilter 06-12-2017 02:04 PM

Churn dash is done. I like this one:

lawsonmugs 06-12-2017 03:59 PM

Wow jane very pretty. I love the blue/brown floral. Cheesehead thank you. I live way out in the country and would really be pissed if that happened to me and for them to leave the flood lights on all night. Talk about inconsiderate. Seems it would cheaper to hire a security guard rather then pay for those lights to be on so long and wasting energy. Hope you get caught up soon and post pictures. Hugs Mary

Lawsonmugs: Very pretty blocks. I can't post mine together yet because I have an orphan block scrappy on my design wall. :). I had to take out a side HST because it was wrong. I should have checked when I noticed the seams weren't going together right. Oh, well.

Jane Quilter: Very nice block. I enlarged your center block on my phone because I thought it looked like an abstract picture of a girl running with a bouquet. Lol!

Here's my block:

sewbizgirl 06-12-2017 06:11 PM

Connie, Mary and Jane... you are so FAST. Love seeing all your blocks together Mary. There's no 'rule' that says you have to set the blocks just as the pattern shows. Go ahead and move some around if you think your colors will look better that way. We won't let the pattern police get you!

Jane, I love your neutral! And I do see the girl running with the bouquet, LOL. :D

lawsonmugs 06-13-2017 06:03 AM

Very pretty Connie. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one with a mistake. lol. Sewbizgirl, I try to at least pick my colors and cut out the pieces on Monday. The last 2 weeks I was able to sit and sew on Monday also. It makes for a long wait when you get it all done on Monday. Since I am retired I pretty much set my own schedule .Thanks for not telling the pattern police. lol. Have a good day sewing everyone.

Jane Quilter 06-13-2017 06:33 AM

Thanks for all the kind words. I am ok with the pace of 1 per week....I am working on other quilts, and this gives me a change up so i don't get bored, but still I am making progress. If we only got them once per month, I would be very frustrated, and unhappy.

Here is my Flying Churn Dash block 8. In the meantime I am making bags for future presents.

joe'smom 06-13-2017 07:16 AM

I'm swooning over everyone's fabrics. This is inspiring me to concentrate on buying more Civil War fabrics. There's something so fascinating about them. They really take you back in time.

sewbizgirl 06-13-2017 08:23 AM

Another gorgeous Christmas block, Dotty... your piecing is so beautiful. Sharp points! Would love to see your bags, too, if you care to share them.

joe'smom, it took me a while to 'warm up' to Civil War fabrics, but now I love them. They really do connect you with history.

These are the pretty Christmas fabrics I ordered from Thousands of Bolts. Got them a few days ago. Not bad for $4.95 a yard... all are quilt shop brands.

Thank you Mary, here is a couple of photo's of one of the bags, ( which is called A Zippered, Lined Tote Bag ) and is a free tutorial by Debbie Shore.

Battle Axe 06-13-2017 01:31 PM

Dotty, I love your fabrics. How much did you get of each one? How does it come from there, FQ or half yards or??
I especially like that red one.
