OK!! I really blew it this a.m. Trying to hurry and get to the quilt show on time and test out this sashing fabric. I think it is too busy to put on the fresh lilacs. i also did not measure correctly and stuck the corners in the wrong place. Could I have your opinions??

These days, so many people cross cut a striped binding, and I think it looks cute that way. Funny in a cheerful way. :-) The key for me is if the fabric look too busy together. That's a downfall of mine! I'm always thinking I've put too many prints together after the block is done, while before it, they seemed okay together. Maybe for that reason, I think the sashes on the lilac quilt look great! They don't seem too busy at all to me.

Sewbizgirl ...love your boarder. I have spent two days looking for ANY boarder fabric in my pitiful stash. I have to give up. This block will look like a plain Jane without a fancy boarder like yours. Sigh.....

Marcia (Battleaxe), pretty blocks! Your fresh lilacs is so gorgeous. Is that a line of fabrics that you had, or did you put the fabrics together yourself from stash?
I think the WOW sashing looks great, as do your cornerstones. It will unify once it's everywhere, around all the blocks. SO jealous of your shop hop and 3 quilt shows! That's enough quilty adventure to keep you busy for a week! Not much goes on around here, except we do have a show coming up in August, in Vicksburg. Counting the days... |

Do you have enough of the lilac fabric to do the cornerstones? It's so pretty and I think it could probably be just right. That white just doesn't do it for me.

This line of fabric came out about 3 years ago and I bought a block of the month from Craft Town in Pekin, INdiana. They were very helpful, but at that time I did not have the skills to put it together and I just tossed it all in a tub and forgot about it until I retired. Then I discovered Bonnie Hunter. i watched videos and watched them repeatedly and finally I found my scant quarter inch seam, an Oliso iron that Missouri Star quilt co. uses.
I finally had the courage to get Fresh Lilacs out and I'm pleasantly surprised. No I did not put it together. That is one of my worst skills. my father was colorblind and even though I'm not supposed to have it, I flunk one of those tests now and then. I think if my eyes are tired. So I have solved that problem by buying from the full line of someone's fabric. Fresh Lilacs just sang to me and I bought layer cakes and half yard bundles as well as the block of the month. I've run out of some of them and had to shop on ebay to fill in. What this really needs is the off white fabric that came with the block of the month. But I'm out. Those corner stones were a dark purple, but not the darkest purple. Something that is out now that is sort of close is Arabella also by Maywood designed by Sue Beaves. I only have a jelly roll. It goes toward the blue. I'm trying very hard to use up all the scraps. I'm going to be 71 and I figure I have another 25 or so years to use up my stash. My friends roll on the floor when they hear me say that. But at the quilt show today I just bought patterns and books. Shop hop tomorrow will be different. I"ll post the pics of the other ones I have made. Thanks so much for all your input. Marcia |
Marcia, since you have used the WOWs with your other blocks, I don't see any problem in using it for sashing. Maybe that particular block you tried it on looks like it's clashing, because that block has a cream neutral instead of white. But overall, I think the WOW will fade into the background and let your blocks sing! At least you don't have to worry about it just yet. Still plenty of blocks to be made first.

Wow... such pretty fabrics! And I'm not even normally a "purple person". Something about the purple and green together is so soothing.
And I agree with Anna... that's an adorable pattern for layer cakes! |

I am lagging with making some of the blocks because I have been busy with one of my other passions, making donation quilts for the NICU. right now I am working on some larger sized ones that are to be used on top of the isolletes the babies are in. Here if you scroll to the bottom are pictures of some of the quilts and a drop off at the NICU.

Anna, I make those isolette cover blankets too. We have a local group called the Zoe Rose Foundation that supplies the neonatal intensive care units locally. Ours are flannel on both sides with no batting... lightweight. Zoe Rose was one of triplets that didn't make it. The other two sisters are 10 years old now, but Zoe had serious complications from being premature and died as an infant. Her mom started the foundation to help other families with preemies in the NICU.
God bless you for helping this way! |

Annaquilts, I have sent you many NICU quilts, but not in the last several months, and I feel guilty......Got to get back in the baby quilt swing. I so love to make the little cuties. I'm not lost ...just slow. And I have been collecting I spys for this purpose. Will send you some soon......
|
Aaahhh no worries Jane. You and I need to ease up on ourselves. I am also feeling guilty because I did not get the larger quilts done that I planned to do. This is supposed to be positive and enjoyable. At least we were able to bring in a big suitcase and big box. Work on it when it is good for you, works for you and if you want to. Your help and previous support were much appreciated. There will always be a need.

Finally got mine remade with the right size pinwheels. It was an easy block once everything was straightened out. Boy my points are very tacky. Connie very pretty block. Oh Well I still like it. LOL:D:D:D

Received my Civil War fabric order today. I'm getting company this weekend so won't be able to start catching up on my blocks until later next week. Purchased the fabrics online from Whittle's Fabrics and they are awesome! Glad I read about them here. Janet

Janet isn't that just frustrating...... people showing up just when you get your fabrics. This block won't take you long.

Lawsonmugs: Nice looking block. I struggled with getting my pinwheel square 8.5" so I just made my outside strips wider. :)
Thanks for the compliments. I like the idea of the pinwheels spinning on the floor, Just Jan. :) Sewbizgirl: Isn't it fun when we see a fabric we have or have used? Connie |

OK, Connie, I am lost. What pinwheels spinning on the floor? Regardless of expecting company tomorrow, I just had to make my first block today! The dirty floor and dishes are still waiting and what better way to start a day than with a new quilt block? ;) Here is my first block, Woven Star.

Very pretty block. You'll catch up quickly. If you can make a couple blocks a week you'll do good. Post 422 was a picture of a block and wood grain fabric was used as the background with the spinning pinwheels. Check it out, it's really alive !!. lol.

Nice pinwheel block, Mary. Don't you think we get better and better at piecing by doing these blocks? I do!
|
Your blocks are looking good, Janet. I go out of town for a day and you whip out three! Looks like Whittles sent you some nice fabrics for these.
What I really love is that yellow fabric behind them! |
