YOU are a dear. I'm guessing the center cut is about 2.5, but I'm still playing with it. WHY doesn't Bonnie use this method as an alternative?? Because it doesn't sell rulers/tools.

Kassaundra, Very nice blocks there! That's probably not what ORL will use, because BH said the diamond units were not to be sewn together. Same with the zig zag idea--probably not, or she would have been okay with sewing the units together. Or, maybe she is going to sew the diamond units together, but the sewing method involves them being sewn together in a different more convenient order?

SBG, I'll try to remember that zig zag idea for the MMMQ, which she already has said is a zig zag pattern. It might go very nicely together!

Oh I am not trying to guess what Bonnie's doing. I am sure those layouts are not her layouts, we have way to many colors and pieces missing, not to mention the pressing directions she gives wouldn't be convenient with some of these pairings. The puzzle parts are way to tempting not to move around and see what happens, gives great ideas for other quilt projects. I take pictures to keep in an "inspiration" album. During each mystery I usually end up making several blocks that inspire me.

I'm getting passable results with the basic method. I'm completing 10 pairs at a time, and trying not to think about the total number.

Here are my (orange) samples using a strip method and Bonnie's (blue) method

I have all six billion pieces cut and I'm now ready for the long endless chains! I used the Simple folded corners ruler. I'm actually finding I'm using it a lot, mainly for squaring up as I don't have a squaring ruler.

Lisa, you have such lovely fabrics!

Turkeyquilter, I'm glad you found what works for you! Perfect!

Kass, please keep sharing your layout ideas. I'm enjoying all the variations you keep coming with all these few random units!

I’m enjoying reading and seeing everyone’s progress so far. The color combinations and the creative ways of putting the blocks together to make a bigger block.

I have cut 1.5 on the 3 steps. I plan to start sewing in earnest after Wednesday. I’m trying to redo last year’s top. After putting the top together, I decided I wanted to swap out the yellow blocks for the 1/2 sq dark purple/background blocks. I’m 1/2 way there. I have to have it done by Wednesday, so I can get it quilted. I want it back before the new year. Watching from the side lines. Here’s my progress so far on this year’s.

My clue 3 is finished sewing, now I have to press and trim.
