Marshmallow disaster

Marshmallow disaster
I got a recipe for homemade marshmallows off the Electric Quilt site. I had all the ingredients on hand so I thought I'd try it.
The sugar/corn syrup/water mixture is cooked to a soft ball. Soften gelatin is added and then that is poured into beaten egg whites. All was going well until the stuff started expanding and climbing up the beaters. It climbed all the way over them and through the holes at the bottom of my big stand mixer. I could only beat them half as long as I should because the stuff got in the motor of the mixer.
I've taken the mixer apart, but I don't know if I can ever get that sticky stuff out.
In other news, my four black Labs have marshmallow fluff all over their faces. I got it everywhere in the kitchen and had to call the boys in from the yard to help me clean up.

Very sorry about your mess.
Mom and I made a 7-Up cake in the 80's that required beating the batter for 20 minutes. We still laugh about scraping the cake out of the bottom of the oven. Needless to say, we never used that recipe again.

I hope you're able to get your mixer motor cleaned out. I'd have stopped, when the stuff started climbing the beaters.
I also had a mutant food adventure, only with zucchini bread. I followed the directions, to the letter, even for the exact size of bread pans. That stuff grew and grew and grew, overflowing the pans like some sort of alien beast! Luckily, I had a cookie sheet beneath the pans. Some recipes are not to be trusted!

Omigosh, I had a cake disaster for my daughter's 6th birthday. Our new oven was off by 75º and the half-sheet cake puffed up and spilled all over the oven and nearly started a fire. It went downhill from there! We still laugh about it, but there were many tears at the time. It looked like someone had a cake fight in my kitchen.

I found it best to buy the freshest of ingredients for any recipe. Also exact measurements and the largest mixing bowl you have for any recipe that calls for egg whites and anything else that is going to help expand the recipe.
