NEW Easter Dessert ideas please, have made cakes too often!
I am to bring dessert again to our Easter dinner. In the past I've made cakes in the shape of bunnies, chicks, lambs, crosses, etc. I have made cupcakes with little nests on top, pies in apple, peach, lemon, and more, carrot cheesecake, and cookies with jelly beans. So you can see I need new ideas. We always have plenty of gelatin salads and ice cream.

No special "Easter Desserts" for me. I'm content with a good meal first!
Here's a link to some St. Paddy's day recipes which might give you some inspiration.
I haven't tried them, though I can always rely on their recipes to be successes!!

On the other hand, if you're just not in the spirit for doing a dessert this year, why don't you ask to be switched to a main course item? Then you can let someone else have the opportunity to provide their chosen dessert.

Believe me, I've been there, done that and got tired of the flattery ........ and their lazy-ness! The message got thru that I liked to make different things, and there's been a better rotation since. Good Luck!!
And if you feel you "have to" and just cannot come to say NO ....... keep it simple ... take a tub of ice cream and a pan of squares. Everyone will be happy, and guess what? they will enjoy it as much as the fancy=take-a-lot-of-time-and-effort desserts!

Have you ever made a Pavlova? Its basically a meringue, baked into a pie shape. Then you fill it with whipped cream and berries, with a berry syrup over the top. You can make one large one or small individual ones. Maybe shape it like an egg. http://www.joyofbaking.com/Pavlova.html

Or trifle. The traditional trifle has rum, but you can make it with vanilla. It is an English desert made with ladyfinger cookies layered with pudding, fruit and whipped cream. http://allrecipes.com/recipes/desserts/trifles/

I think chocolate always works. My favorite pie is a chocolate fudge pie. It's rich and smooth. As for cake, it would be a german chocolate cake with the butter pecan frosting and please the frosting from scratch no can stuff.
A fresh coconut cake is nice if you're not a chocolate person like me.
For me, it's not about different. It's about melt in your mouth good.
