    Hope you all like the cake.I'm going to make it once the wind stops blowing.Afraid it will cause elec to go out & don't want half baked cake :)

    My mom used to make this, too. I haven't made one in years. Hmm might be a good thing to do on a snowy day.

    Oh my goodness... I haven't made that in years... but no applesauce in my recipe either. Mom and Grandma use to make it when we had relatives over for baling hay...brought back lots of memories... thank you.

    Somebody at work used applesauce in pretty much all baking recipes that called for oil. She said you couldn't taste it and it made stuff moist and FAT FREE. Thanks for the recipe.

    I've been using applesauce in place of shortening for several yrs. In cakes, you don't notice it. I buy SF applesauce because we never noticed the difference & that's what I use in baking.Sweet breads ,brownies & muffins are also good with applesauce.

    I remember my Mother making this cake when I was much younger.........it was filling and comforting!!
