    Watergate Salad

I have not had this salad in like 40 years. I remember going to my Gram's and getting it at the local mom and pop food store.. I just came across a recipe and now I HAVE to make it... and I am sure my boys will not eat it...

    Yummy

I'll pass too. Just give me the fresh pineapple. DH would love it though as would DS 23. Thanks for the recipe.

OOOH, I love Watergate salad. I didn't know the name of it for a long time, so we called it Mom's (meaning me) green stuff. But I enjoy bit more than most of my family.

I never heard of it before other than Pres. Nixon.

There's lots of salad recipes that are more dessert than main course.
Try Honeymoon Salad, Ambrosia, Fruit Salad with vanilla sauce ...... and so on.

It comes from an expensive Hotel by that name who came up with the recipe. The only reason we associate it with president Nixon is because of a coverup that happened during his presidency at this Hotel that caused him to be impeached.

My family calls it "the green stuff" and I am now required (since my mom's passing) to bring this to every family function. I wonder if my poor son will be bringing it once I'm gone???? LOL

Love this, but never heard it called 'Watergate.' I grew up knowing it as 'Pistachio Salad.'
