In my house, it's scalloped potatoes. My kids jokingly call it "a heart attack on a plate", but there's never any left, and it is my most requested item whenever I'm invited to a potluck.
In an 9x13 baking dish, I layer thinly sliced russet potatoes, a generous amount of grated jack cheese and velveeta, and sprinkle on a heaping tablespoon Powdered Knorr Chicken Bouillon (It really does have to be Knorr...it has seasonings in it that other brands do not). Repeat the layers one more time, drizzle with a half pint of heavy whipping cream so that it runs between the layers and distributes the bouillon powder throughout. Bake at 350 for an hour, then uncover and bake a few more minutes to lightly brown the top. Let cool for about 15 minutes before serving to let the sauce thicken up.
Alternately, I sometimes substitute cooked pasta for the potatoes.

DH & I are vegetarian, so our normal Thanksgiving meal (when I'm cooking) is a big ol' pot of mushroom barley soup. That's what we had yesterday, with enough leftovers to fill nine 1.5 pint Mason jars for the freezer. Yum!
I put the very last of the garden carrots and onions in it, which I'm going to claim makes it extra special. All of the seasonings in it came from the garden as well, except for the salt!

This is my favorite Thanksgiving recipe. If nothing else were served, I'd be happy.
What is your favorite?
Scalloped Sweet Potatoes and Apples
4 baked, peeled, and sliced Sweet Potatoes (small to medium size)
4 Apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup firmly packed Brown Sugar (reduce or eliminate when using topping)
½ cup Butter
1 teaspoon Salt
Put alternate layers of potatoes and apples in a 9” x 13” baking pan. Sprinkle each layer with brown sugar. Dot with butter and sprinkle with salt.
Topping-optional
¾ cup packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup melted butter
1/3 cup flour
In a mixing bowl combine the topping ingredients and mix well. Sprinkle over top of the casserole.
Cover and bake in a 350 degree oven until the apples are soft (about 45 minutes). Uncover and bake for about ten minutes longer.
Serves 6 to 8

You will have to laugh at my family's fav recipe....green bean casserole with the french onions on top...recipe from the french onion container. )) If anyone has an interesting twist to add to the green bean casserole, please share. Thank you!

I did the same thing this year, but made a double batch. Had a lot of leftovers, so I mixed up turkey with leftover vegetables with the mushroom/beans and topped the whole thing with leftover mashed potatoes. made a delicious turkey shepherd's pie.

DD uses Stove Top Stuffing instead of French Onions on top. Yummy!
