Of course, I bought mine years ago, so they may have improved it.

As I said, I've not worked on a 319, but on the 401 and 501, you can manually push the whole needle apparatus back...

My usual pins are dull. At this point, I use a magnetic pin "keeper".

Can you manually swing the needle (by just pushing it back and forth)?
