My Mom didn't start quilting until she was 89...she took classes and continued to quilt until she died two months short of her 96th Birthday. It was a wonderful hobby after she found gardening too...

I replaced the small iron surface with a larger attachmnet and use it for applique (freezer paper and starch) and it works well. I do not use it for pressing seams while I am piecing quilts.

The binding will last much longer since the bias...

The binding will last much longer since the bias threads on the outside folded edge will withstand more friction and ware without breaking down. Threads on the straight of the grain will not hold up...
