For something small I use a hoop usually 14" and sometimes 12" if it is a small project. I also have two size oval hoops that I love and use those actually more than the round.

Mine had the same smell. There is a felt pad in the bottom of the machine that catches oil. If you have that replaced. And ditto on Febreeze your case and set it out in the sun. It will help alot....

I hand pieced my first quilt in 1983, still in perfect shape. I have several of my grandmother's,way over 100 years old the fabric has worn out in some spots, but the stiching is still holding.

I know what you mean, my sewing room has great natural light too, which is great for hand quilting and my sewing machine is right under the window. At night I use my ott light it definitely helps...

That just seems too complicated when you can get the same results and faster with the little round rubber disc to grab the need or I also use rubber finger cots, it is much quicker.

I tear my borders have for 25+ years. Tried cutting hated the results, not as straight. I tear lenght wise. You will hear many say it distorts, not if you tear lengthwise.
